The GR Press also had a piece on the coach's poll, picking the Calvin men and Hope women to win the conference. GVW made a Yogi Berra-like observation: "I don't know if the MIAA truly is the best league, but it's one of the very best. The depth we have speaks well for every team in our league."  :D

Brian Morehouse also made the interesting comment that we have such a strong conference that "There wasn't anything we saw in the national tournament that we didn't see in our league."

Pat Coleman

Tri-State is in the fourth year of the provisional period according to our records. They count as regional but are not eligible for the NCAA Tournament.

I'm thinking about doing picks for all games this year (not just league games).  Anyone interested?  If you are, please respond in the MIAA Pick 'Em forum.

Went to watch Hope scrimmage Ferris today, but Ferris just decided not to show up.  Pretty disappointing.   >:(

The Dutchment did look good in an inter-squad scrimmage

Maybe Sall was mad that GVW dissed his alma mater.  Those folks have to hold their grudges together ya know.  ;D ;)

Speaking of the best pep bands, I heard a pretty good one at the half-time show of a game yesterday. They played some old reliables, including 25 or 6 to 4, but they did quite a nice job of it, even though they did look a bit long in the tooth. The band was called 'Chicago.'

Huh  ??? ;D LOL!!!

It wasn't really at a small college. This game was more a mid-sized place of about 9000 students total -- similar in size to one of those UW campuses perhaps. This place claims to have the oldest marching band in the country. The flyover of F16s was kind of cool too.

Quote from: Stinger on November 03, 2006, 04:09:57 PMThe Hornets start out against Heidleburg down at the MT. St. Joe tourney on Nov 17th.  Mr. Sager, I believe North Park is the 4th team rounding out the tourney?

Yep. The hosts scheduled NPU to be their opener in the tourney, which makes the Park the tourney's designated patsy. That's quite an insult, considering that Heidelberg has been spinning its wheels for quite a long time, too ... not that any team coming off of consecutive 4-21 seasons can complain about being dissed. That's OK, though -- it'll just make it all that much sweeter when the Vikings stun the Mount on the 17th.  ;D

Quote from: Stinger on November 03, 2006, 04:09:57 PMKzoo had a nice little home and home series  with North Park back in the mid 90's.

Yeah, I remember. If I recall correctly, we won at our place the first year, and you won at yours the second year. I don't have any specific memories of the game here in Chicago, so my guess is that Smokin' Joe Haklin was on his best behavior in the big city.  :D

Has anyone seen Calvin scrimmage so far?  Who is KVS going with?  Veldhouse-Griffin-Zoerhof-Snoeyink-Meckes?  I expect Mantel to start by the MIAA season, but he might start him on the bench at the beginning.

Also, are Veltema and Koetsier getting solid time?  Is Koetsier playing more 3 or 4?

Shareef - for some reason this system isn't letting me send personal messages.  Yeah, I have this handle on GoBlueWolverine (and TheWolverine, and a few other boards) as well.

Shareef23

I was just reading some of your posts and I looked at the handle and I was like, that's gotta be the same guy. I'm MooN23. I forgot that you can't send personal messeges until you JV because of some spam problems or something like that.
"I started to look around at the fans and the team and I was sitting in the back, and I looked around and everybody was having a good time and that day, it truly made me realize what Michigan was about. It took me down, it humbled me. It taught me how to be a Michigan man instead of Jason Avant."

Stinger, I guess bitter isn't the best word. I think UM hoops is on the right track. I just don't see how Reed Baker (I guess he can shoot) can get a scholarship and Mr. Basketball, David Kool, doesn't even get an offer. It makes me question things.

Kool isn't D I material.  He's an extraordinary player with serious heart but he's probably a little too small.  Playing at Western probably won't get him very far either.  I see him as a Joel Holstege type of player.  He would have thrived at a local DIII school!  I suppose there's still a chance.

Shareef23

Who's to say Joel Holstege couldn't have played D1. If not for his conservatives religious views, he might have played somewhere bigger. He wouldn't even play in Mackers. I give him props! And David Kool is better than Reed Baker. Anyone, who scores that much in the semi's and finals can play D1.
