I just took a look at the Hope team photo, and was wondering if there's some sort of NCAA rule limiting the number of blue blazers in a single photo.  It was confusing for a moment, I thought I was looking at a USGA Executive Board photo.

Need someting to color balance all that orange, looks like they went with the 2 to 3 ratio.

But did you notice the guy in the upper left hand part of the photo standing on the bleachers............clever. 8)

To many years in Europe!  ;)

Ya know I always thought I could make a fortune opening up a Khaki Pants store right in downtown Holland.  Selling nothing else just Khaki pants.  Its like the school uniform..........Everyone thinks its the blue blazer and Khaki pants combo but its not it just the Khaki pants, they go with everything......Even a couple of fraternities on campus wore Khaki pants, all the time..........My first day of golf practice I was told to buy a pair of Khaki pants for the team photo.  So 15 years later I look back and all I see is 9 guys with bad haircuts wearing Khaki pants. 8)  We wore Khaki pants to every event the 3 years I played.

I bet I wore Khaki pants to every semi-formal function for about 10 years.

........and as a side, where do all these Hope administrators come up with these Orange and Blue striped ties?  I don't think I've ever seen one in any store ever.  Do they buy them in bulk?

Well I feel pretty Supersweet to have scooped this little gem.

Calvin's new Fieldhouse will be called .................Spoelhof Fieldhouse!

City planners OK Calvin College's $35 million expansion
GRAND RAPIDS — City planners gave the green light today to a $35 million expansion of Calvin College's athletic facilities.

The new Spoelhof Fieldhouse complex will include the existing recreation gym, a new indoor track and tennis facility and a new aquatic center. The plans also call for the addition of a power plant to the college's Science Power Plant building.

College Vice President Henry DeVries said they hope to complete the facilities by fall 2008.

hmmm maybe I'm wrong, doesn't say anything about the new gym.

Quote from: Dark Knight on November 09, 2006, 08:10:32 PMSo, what is the chance that Kuyper college will go D3 and want to join the MIAA?

Nil. Kuyper will only be up to eight sports (four per gender) by 2012-13, which is below the minimum required for D3 membership. As for Kuyper pursuing MIAA membership, my guess is that it's about as likely as the University of Michigan dropping football.

Quote from: Dark Knight on November 09, 2006, 08:10:32 PMWhy do the smaller places seem more likely to go NAIA? Do they really want to offer basketball scholarships?

Unlike the NCAA, the NAIA does not require its member schools to field teams in a minimum number of sports. If you click on the website of various NAIA schools, you'll notice that a lot of them only offer four, five, maybe six sports. They almost all have men's and women's basketball, of course, but beyond that they may only offer women's volleyball, or men's and women's cross-country, or perhaps track or softball. For smaller colleges that have miniscule budgets, the NAIA is thus more cost-effective than is D3. And not all NAIA schools offer athletic scholarships. In fact, a substantial number of them don't.

Article said Kuyper will compete in NCCAA, like Grace Bible.......don't know about leagues.

The NCCAA is the logical home for Kuyper. It has two divisions: Division II is made up of Bible colleges, Division I is made up of four-year liberal arts schools. Almost all NCCAA schools, as the name indicates, have an overtly programmatic Christian mission, even the four-year schools (i.e., a required double major in Bible alongside the chosen major). And the schools tend to play intercollegiate athletics at a level that isn't much beyond club sports in terms of skill level and emphasis, although every now and then you'll see an NCCAA team that can hold its own against D3 or NAIA-2 competition.

I noticed that the DeVos family recently gave $1.2m to Kuyper College. At some point I expect southwestern Michigan to secede from the rest of the Great Lakes State and change its name to DeVos.  ;)

Even the cheerleading coach got the memo!

Excellent! Our first Hope male cheerleaders post! Now all we need is a Sac speeding story and an appearance by Ashabi, and the 2006-07 MIAA season is good to go!  :D

I don't know about the blue blazers being a violation but there has to be an NCAA rule against having more assistant coaches than players. WWKVSD? ;)

Now oldknight, don't exaggerate, there are 15 players and only 12 coaches. (Or 13, if you count the little devil standing on the shoulder of the second coach from the left.)

Please God no.  The state needs a rest from that name for a while. Finally, the one thing that the DeVos money couldn't build, a winning campaign.

We already get into enough trouble on this board when we limit our arguments to BB. Let's not bring politics into our discussions too. :o :P

Yep, shame on Hope for having an athletic trainer program, shame, shame, shame.  ::) ;)

(This concludes the annual D3hoops.com number of Hope coaches/blue blazer bashing)

READER ALERT:   This subject is predictably likely to be broached on at least 2 more occasions, possibly 4 or 5.

If you really want accuracy: 1 head coach, 4 assistant coaches, 3 student assistants, 1 team manager, 1 Athletic Director, 1 equipment manager, 1 administrative assistant

For the annual roster check:

Calvin's average height/weight = 76.3 inches / 205.7 lbs
Hope's average height/weight = 76.1 inches / 201.4 lbs

What does this mean? Nothing, other than I had too much time on my hands for the last 10 minutes...

Sac:   :) Slow down big guy!  In my file copy of the architect's drawing of the proposed fieldouse dated 9-15-06 it clearly indicates, "Proposed Spoelhof Fieldhouse".  So really old news.  :)
