Ziggy -

What you heard is correct.  And it happened a number of years ago. My father's good friend grew up with Johnny Orr who got the "guys" tickets to the game down "south." The first time they went, somehow and mysteriously, the air had disappeared from their tires in their "Michigan plated" automobile.  So, two years later, these guys didn't need to be told twice - once they hit the boarder, they rented a car that plates with the "o" word on it. Unbelieveably, there were "NO" problems!!! Hmmmmm.....

Ahhh, a rivalry!!!

SAC - Have a GREAT time and I HOPE that the football Gods bless you with a ticket.  And save your Indy 500 practicing for your drives to Albion!

Be safe! (Go Irish)

???  I did not know that about you,   hmmmm does this mean I shouldn't send anymore anti ND emails...........like I did a couple months ago  :-\   You took it well.  ;D

Man you get one little speeding ticket and you get labeled...........by the way I have a great story about a rural Ohio sheriff and my vist to a Bellefontaine, Ohio restaurant the day of the game 6 years ago.  Ask me about it sometime........maybe I just think its funny.

Ziggy yes its true, people do rent cars at the border..........In 1984 a 12 year old friend of ours was verbally assaulted along fraternity row and had is M hat ripped off his head and thrown on a roof of a house, he was 12 think about that......a few years back a guy in his 40's got in my dads face and started screaming at him about how much he hated everything about Michigan.......I've seen countless incidents of people being pushed, verbally assaulted etc, I've seen the vandalism to cars parked in the lots.  Its very real and it can be dangerous

The biggest thing is just know where NOT to go, don't be a jerk and try to ignore it all and above all avoid "Likes to fight drunk guy" which is near impossible.  Most people are fine......but there are some REALLY bad apples.  If you've never been to the game in Ohio it can be a real eye opener..........but it makes you appreciate how "normal" we are here in Michigan, even the misguided Spartan, Irish and Knight.....fans ;D

Despite all that I manage to have  a great time everytime I go, and I will this year too.

My alibi to the Harding County Sheriff near Bucyrus is that I'm a lost Hope fan looking for Alliance............think it will work?

Poor scheduling on the part of the AD ;)

I believe Mt Union arranged the starting time of the Hope game for noon specifically so it would be over in time for The Game.

Stinger

Think I should rent a car if I head down to Cincy for the Mt. St Joe tourney? ;)  Even as a Spartan fan, I know not to step into Ohio during the week of the Michigan/Ohio St. game.

That being said, back to DIII hoops, this is a great weekend for the Hornets to get going.  Im not going to predict a win on Friday for Kzoo, but they should take care of business against Heidelberg. As for NPU and Mt. St. Joe, who knows. All I want is for the Hornets to be playing for a title on Saturday afternoon.

Enough of the game in C' bus saturday, let's talk about season openers.

Actually, the NCAA requires that all playoff games start at noon, local time - MUC had nothing to do with it.

I agree!  The Ohio State AD should be fired for scheduling a game when Calvin is playing. ;)

I just took a look at the Hope team photo, and was wondering if there's some sort of NCAA rule limiting the number of blue blazers in a single photo.  It was confusing for a moment, I thought I was looking at a USGA Executive Board photo.

If you compare the Hope mens' team photo to the womens', you will see that the womens' side only gets 7 coaches and assistants attached to their team versus 12 for the men (excluding the one guy stuck in the corner). It seems to me that Hope has a gender-equity problem. ;) Shouldn't the NCAA be notified? :-X

Of course they should be notified, right after they address the fact that Calvin has an entire extra sport for women  ;D

Sac: et. al.  Lighten up on the Ohio bashing!!  It's not exactly true that OSU fans have always been treated like visiting royalty by MI fans.  Having atttended these games in both stadiums I have witnessed idiotic behavior by the supporters of both schools. :)
Bullda, nb:.  Why fire the OSU AD when it is some TV exec. that really set the game time, and will control the clock the entire game?  ;D

Names have been announced for the new Calvin Fieldhouse complex, arena, pool, etc.:

The whole thing: Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex, marking a lead gift by John and Judy Spoelhof. John was a former president of Prince corporation.

Arena: the VanNoord Arena, in honor of Andrew and Gladys VanNoord. Andy has been a "life-long inventor who designed many automotive components." Each time you adjust your side mirror without rolling down the window, remember that you are helping support Calvin basketball.

Aquatics center: the Venema Aquatics Center, named in recognition of a lead gift from Thelma Venema, will include an Olympic-sized pool.

Remodeled fieldhouse: the Hoogenboom Health and Recreation Center recognizing significant financial support from Terry Hoogenboom, a developer whose wife died of cancer.

The other lead donor to the overall expansion project is the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation.

Double brilliance and +K for each of you. You guys are rounding into midseason form already.

1.  Is  John Spoelhof related to President Spoelhof?

2.  I can see Hope fans all over Holland rolling down their windows to adjust their side mirrors, now.  Likely as not he had something to do with automatic windows, too, so you'll still be supporting the Knights    ;D :D ;) :)

NB:  Yes.  Father and son.  It is very interesting when you start searching around some family trees to learn who is related to whom, and how.  This is one of those times you can say, "John's wife was/is a Prince". ;)
I think the most interesting thing about today's announcement is the way  the De Vos foundation involvement is phrased.    It sounds like the last thing they wanted was their name on another building.
If our Hope friends are going nuts over their car mirrors we probably shouldn't mention the Calvin link to Butterball turkeys.   :)
