Sorry to get off of the MIAA subject (I notice ya'll stick very closely to that subject!).  The Big Game is even more intense with the death of Coach Schembechler this morning.  This is a sad day for Michigan.  I pray that the guys will go down to Columbus and win an incredible victory in memory of Bo.  I'm a U of M grad, though that in no way gets in the way of being a Knight fan--I'm looking forward to a victory tonight, too!

NB:  Yes.  Father and son.  It is very interesting when you start searching around some family trees to learn who is related to whom, and how.  This is one of those times you can say, "John's wife was/is a Prince". ;)
I think the most interesting thing about today's announcement is the way  the De Vos foundation involvement is phrased.    It sounds like the last thing they wanted was their name on another building.
If our Hope friends are going nuts over their car mirrors we probably shouldn't mention the Calvin link to Butterball turkeys.   :)

Of course all the Calvin folk probably quiver when they realize that the first software used for d3hoops posting up was written by a couple of Hope students  :P

I don't know if I want to acknowledge the link to butterball turkeys.  Mr. Peters was controversial to say the least.

FDF:  Guess that  that explains alot of things about this site doesn't it?  :)
If we listed all the accomplishments of the alums of the 2 schools I am sure it would be a very lenghty and impressive list.   The tie breaker would probably be;, "which school had to hire a person that attended the other school to get a quality president"? ???

NB:  Mr. Peters was by no means the most controversial individual that had some connection to Calvin.

The Cold War ended years ago but thanks to The Rivalry the doctrine of MAD (mutually assured destruction) remains alive and well. :P

I love it!  All this good natured ribbing has me all fired up for basketball!!

Going to watch the defending national champs tonight since it's another week until the guys play.

Quite the weekend for sports!

The Calvin women's soccer team just defeated Dennison to reach the elite 8. Women's basketball is playing tonight at 6, and men's basketball at 7:30.

Tomorrow the men's XC team races in nationals at 11:00, hopefully bringing home another banner. Women's XC races at nationals at 12:00. Women's soccer plays the elite 8 game at 1:00. Then the Calvin men's basketball team plays at 1:00 or 3:00. Women's basketball plays at 1:00 or 3:00. Swiming and diving team at 1:00.

Oh, and isn't there some other game at 3:30 too? Can't remember what, but I thought there was something else.  ???

FDF:  Amen!!   If we can't lol, and rof every once in awhile we should stop posting.
DK:  Shame on you for failing to mention that Hope is sending their football team down to Ohio to be another sacrifical offering to the Ohio football

Kalamazoo loses to Heidelberg 69-44. Haven't found stats from the game other than Matt Kellogg led the Hornets with 11 points.

Albion loses 62-49 to Rochester College.  Telling stats from that one: Albion shot 26% from the field and had 26 turnovers.
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

Stinger;  Let me be the first to welcome you to your new status as a starter.  Use your new powers wisely. :)
Not a great start for the MIAA based on those 2 results.

Calvin defeated Concordia (WI) 98-76. The first half was very ragged, with lots of defensive mixups, bad passes, and the like. I think the half-time score was 51-48 for Calvin.

Two new names atop the scoring list: Mantel with 17 and Griffin with 16. Veldhouse also had 16. Mantel looked very good all around for a freshman. Griffin has a super smooth shot.

The starters were Veldhouse, Griffin, Zoerhof, Mantel, and Meckes. (Good call, GK!) There seemed to be plenty of offensive options and lots of depth. Everyone played and scored except Veltema, who has a badly sprained ankle.

The knights have tons of potential--and a ways to go to get there. Will make for an intresting year.

As Dark Knight said, they really showed how much depth they have.  Smith, Snoeynk, and DeVries coming off the bench means you have a good starting 5.  Veltema sat out hurt tonight.  Zoerhoff played very well in the 2nd half.

Might not be a lot of people at tomorrow's game  :-\

DK: It is going to take some time for the kinks to get worked out. It was nice to see those 33 points from the new guys.  Others suspect the starting rotation could change a time or two, but the depth gives Kevin lots of options.

Kind of reminds me of thier loss to U of Dearborn last year.  Wasn't that also their first game?
