Calvin looks like they have great potential this year.  Meckes makes the all tournament team and Veldhouse is MVP.  Congratulations Knights.

Ugh! Had to get that off my chest sorry! I missed the Knights today as I was... ugh! Anyway, just wanted to give myself props, seeing I calledthe Knight's starting lineup this summer. GK can have the credit thou. I hold no grudges.   ;D

Shareef23:
I'll gladly share the glory with you. ;)  And I share your disappointment in the result from Columbus. :'(

Oldknight, I tried to tell you that the lovely young woman from Chelsea was not John's sister, but you never take me seriously. >:(

Dark Knight is almost certainly right that the coming weekend will tell us much more about this year's team with a solid step up in quality opponents coming to the Calvin Fieldhouse.   The Knights will have to play defense with more purpose and intensity than they showed this weekend, although today was a clear improvement over Friday night's opener.

GoKnights68

Thanks for the sum-up, oldnight.  Couldn't make it because of a certain game, which pretty much wrecked the rest of my week but anyways....

The Knights are really going to want to redeem themselves this Friday and Saturday from last year's poor performance against Cornerstone and Aquinas last year in the tourney.  In case you forgot, they got stomped both games against those those 2 teams.  Hopefully they can fix those defensive problems you desribed.  I know last year and last night's game they had some trouble defending the 3 also.

Don't remind me.  >:( The VanAndel games represented Calvin's low point last year.  Josh Meckes went down with an injury in the first game against Cornerstone, and Jon Jonker came alive to lead the Golden Eagles to an 8-point win.  The next game against the Saints of Aquinas was as bad as I've seen Calvin play in a long, long time -- and the 15-point margin could have just as easily been 30 or 45.

There's no way Veldhouse will be MVP, sorry to burst your bubble.

Girlwoh:  You might want to cut down on the orange hair treatments or try reading all the post before jumping to conclusions. :)  The MVP was for the Calvin tip-off tournament. :D
Listening to Kevin's remarks after the game he seemed pleased with the team's progress, and rest assured defense will be stressed in the coming weeks.  Best part is the team chemistry seems to be blending well.
As for football MI had their chances, and imho should play OSU again.  However, the control freaks running D1 football, and the $$$$ will deny them their well earned right.

I agree....  Veldhouse is going to be schooled by some Freshman and Cramer is going down the MVP!!

Shareef23

As a Calvin fan, I would agree. Cramer's the favorite to win conference MVP, but Veldhouse will be right there. However, the post didn't have anything to do with that. Next weekend should be fun! I think Hope is at quite a disadvantaged at this point without any games under their belt.

Six days until THE GAME that never happens...

My prediction is for a tough weekend for the Dutchmen, of course I haven't seen a single second of action from these guys but they are playing a team Friday that will be on game #8........has to be a big disadvantage.   Also of note Cstone has Andy Bronkema back this year paired with Jonker......not a good matchup for Hope.

Rough weekend for the league.......wow, I guess the real surprise is Albion getting beaten twice by double digits.  Keep an eye on Andrew Holms, I think he's the sleeper of the league this year.

(warning off-topic)
My brief comments about the doings here in Columbus...........I guess if you beg and plead enough you can control some behaviors, 30 fires is considered a down year ;)........I made no attempt to get a ticket, simply out of my price range and spent no time near the University so I can't speak for the atmosphere at the game but the town was certainly energized.  This is definately a strange place, you could build a wall around I-270 and no one inside would know the difference.  Its like the rest of the world doesn't exist.

Every year that game comes down to 2 or 3 plays that change the outcome and this year was no different and not that different from a certain D3 hoops rivalry.  Really a great game.  As for a rematch, hard to say if it SHOULD happen but had Michigan won 38-35 the Buckeye fans would be screaming for a rematch and that is truth.  I just can't envision any team other than Michigan being able to come to this place and only lose by 3.  In my opinion the balls in USC's court but they need to look real good against ND and will probably get the nod for Glendale if they win out, but its going to be real close either way.

On a personal note the annual border war has been a family outing since 1984, every year a small group of about 5 families who's patriarch's all went to UM dental school have gotten together to spend some great times together, good food, good drinks and great football.

This was our first year without a member of that group, my father, and it was particularly difficult for all of us.  This weekend marks a one year anniversary for me..........the last time life was normal.  It was one year ago this next weekend we found out my dad had cancer, two months latter he was gone.  This past year has without a doubt been the worst of my life on just about every level you can think of.

I've spent two great weekends with my brother and his family these past weeks, and it has been wonderful therapy.  So when you get together with your families this Thursday be especially thankfull for the times you have with them.  Remember those you've lost, and hug those you still have.  In the end, families are all you've got and all you need.

Northb should've said that this Van Noord guy invented the automatic transmission. That way, every Hope fan out there would be sprinting to the local dealer to buy a car with a stickshift.  :D

Since I don't live too far from Albion, I decided to take in the Britons/JCU game yesterday afternoon.  Definitely a strange game.  Albion came out firing hitting their first three 3's  They built up as much as  a 16 pt lead in the first half.  Albion was playing good solid defensive and rebounding the ball with force.  The 2nd half was just the opposite.  JCU  upped their defensive pressure to a whole new level. It was the first time in a long time that I've seen an Albion team succomb to pressure like that.  They were back on their heals for the entire final 10 minutes of the game. Albion had 14 second half turnovers, and a 60-56 lead that turned into a a 78-62 defecit.

Sac, thanks for the reminder to love and enjoy those around us.  I'm sorry to hear it's been such a tough year for you.  Obviously your dad was a HUGE part of your life.  What a blessing it must have been for him to have a son who honors him so.  I'll be praying for you!

Regarding the potential Michigan-Ohio, I have mixed feelings.  As a Michigan grad and fan, I'd love to see them play again and see Michigan beat Ohio.  And if USC and Florida lose, Michigan would certainly seem to deserve the trip (since we crushed Notre Dame, and who wants to watch Arkansas play in the championship game?)  The problem is if Michigan were to beat Ohio in the "championship" game, you'd almost want to see the best 2 out of 3.  I sure would cry "no fair!" if Michigan had just beaten Ohio State and then Ohio State beat us in the championship game to become the national champions.  So, I vote for Michigan playing Ohio State in the "championship" game and, if Michigan wins, have a winner-take-all game!
