Does this mean I can't make fun of Cal the Knight anymore?

I can't put my finger on who, but he reminds me of a television character.

But will the sports fans let it happen?

As soon as the subjects of dancing, drinking and whether the door should be open or not came up.........I think they'd split again. ;) ;D

Allow me to stray off topic ..............again.

I was rummaging around some of my old stuff and found one of my prized posessions, an autographed Michigan baseball scorecard from the early eighties.  This is no ordinary autographed scorecard, I'm certain its a one of kind, more on that later.

As you know our State lost a coaching legend last Friday when Bo Schembechler passed away.  You need only look at Michigan's record in football the previous 20 years before Bo arrived and compare it to the 37 after to understand what this man meant to Michigan.   He was Michigan and will probably stand only with Fielding Yost in his importance to the Michigan athletic program.  Michigan is what it is today because of Bo.  Without Bo, Michigan/Ohio State would not be the same, Michigan Stadium would not seat 107,000.

Well my dad loved Michigan, everything about Michigan, he did his undergrad and dental school at Michigan..........and he loved showing off his school to his two boys.  We lived a little over an hour from Ann Arbor and we spent many weekends in Ann Arbor watching Football, Basketball, Hockey, Baseball even swimming.  Whatever, it didn't matter.

Baseball was what I enjoyed the most, I can still remember the Michigan infield with Chris Sabo, Barry Larkin with Scott Kaminiecki pitching all major leaguers.

It was at Ray Fisher Stadium that the infamous scorecard came to be.  Bo loved baseball and was often, in fact always at the Michigan baseball games.  One sunny spring afternoon my dad and I were in the stands watching another double header, dad kept commenting on all the people asking for Bo and Rick Leach's autograph who sitting next to Bo.

So my dad handed me a scorecard and asked me to go get Millie  Schembechler's autograph, Bo's first wife.  Now you have to understand my dad idolized Bo so him asking me to get Millies autograph was a little weird even to an 11 year old. I handed the card to her and asked her for HER autograph and the biggest smile came across her face, she was ecstatic, obviously this 11 year old had made her day.

She asked if I'd like Bo to sign it and I think I said yes though I'm sure I just shook my head yes hoping Bo wouldn't yell at me.  When Millie told Bo what I'd done he smiled, laughed and signed the card and then in Bo's gruff sort of way asked if I'd like Rick Leach's autograph to.......again I think I said yes, but I'm sure I just nodded my head yes again hoping Bo didn't yell at me.  Next to Anthony Carter, Rick Leach was my favorite Wolverine as a kid.

Thus, I had my prized childhood posession of a Michigan baseball scoresheet with Millie Schembechler, Bo Schembechler and Rick Leach's autographs which was admired and shown off to all my friends at Southeastern Elementary and put away on my bookshelf, stored in a random box and refound 25 years latter.

Sure wish I could find that scorecard with Barry Larkin and Chris Sabo's autograph's though. ;)

Sac - you going to be at the bank dujour tournament tomorrow?  Lokking forward to the games for Hope to finally begin, and to seeing all of you again as well.

Sac, feel free to continue making fun of Cal -- if you are able to find him.  Cal was a lame attempt at a mascot. Seriously doubt that you'll see him anymore, but if you do please join in the derisive laughter. ::) ???

As for "Dutch"  -- well, he looks like the kind of party animal we all associate with those wacky frat boys at Hope. :-[

But, hey, since Calvin just had to up the ante with our Holland friends by building a new arena on campus, it only stands to reason the Hopesters would get slavishly competitive on the goofy mascot front. ;)

Hope to see several of you tomorrow.

Well if you were paying attention last year you'd know the Hope mascot has been in the "Master Plan" for awhile now. :D

Yeah, I suppose I can find time to squeeze in a little basketball...........by the way I asked my uncle if he wanted to come over and see a Hope/Calvin game.  He deadpanned....."its football season".

That about sums up the excitement level.

Any predictions on the select bank classic?

Both Aquinas and Cornerstone have 4 wins and 3 losses -- not top-25 kinds of records, though one of CU's losses is to D-I Oakland. Aquinas has had results all over the board -- some good and some bad.

Massey power ratings are not very accurate yet, with only 7 games recorded for these teams, but they give Aquinas a power rating of about -14 and Cornerstone about 5. Using last year's figures for Calvin and Hope, that would make Hope a 13 point favorite over Cornerstone and Calvin a 24-point favorite over Aquinas on neutral courts.

Of course, the big confounding factors are that AC and CU have already played 7 games -- and this year's Calvin and Hope squads aren't likely to be quite at last year's end-of-season level just yet.

A Hope mascot without a blue blazer and khakis?

Sac, I think "Dutch" looks a little bit like Aladdin (his shoes, his stance and his grin).  Maybe I've seen that movie too many times.

With Hope and Calvin looking as if they might actually be playing in this 'Name That Bank' Classic, when was the last time they actually met in a nonconference tilt?  I'm too tired to do the research...

Also, FWIW, I noticed one of Cornerstone's wins is against a Daemen College team that waxed Wooster's next opponent, NAIA II preseason #7 Walsh College 88-71.
