Trinity Christian and Calvin get a neutral court at the United Center..........Albion gets St. Ignace High School. ;D

That's good sac, that's very good. Karma worthy actually.   8)

How in the name of Michael Jordan did Trinity Christian manage to secure the United Center for their game next Friday afternoon against Calvin?

Looks as though I'll get to see the Knights this season after all.

Greg, it's my recollection that a Trinity grad works in the Bulls' front office, and was able to pull this off.  Calvin sold well over 1,000 tickets for this combo of the Knights and the Trolls at 3 p.m. and the Bulls and the Bucks at 7:30 p.m.  There's also supposed to be a reception for the Calvin crowd between games.

Last night's free ice cream promotion worked so well, I heard Calvin is considering a free headband promotion at this game.

Game of the night though is Albion vs  Finlandia............played at St. Ignace High School.  Looks like the two schools decided to meet in the middle......this is an in-region game under the new criteria.  Nice drive I bet too............but I'm sure its no picnic coming from Houghton either.

St. Ignace has become my stopping off point for my growing regularity of trips to the UP.  I hope the team stays at the Super8 on US 2 and get a room with a view of the bridge............Nice! 8)

The United Center has been part of Calvin's master plan for several years, and was not at all in response to St. Ignace HS.

Madonna is also struggling coming into the tournament, unfortunately my computer and Madonna's website don't jibe for some stupid reason so I don't have a very good idea about Madonna.  I kind of feel like the opener tonight is  a toss up.

Interesting that 2 of Madonna's 3 wins have been at Olivet and at Alma

There was also a Mike Turner sighting, no doubt to get an up close and personal view of this year's edition of KVS's crew.

Maybe also to see the local Fox 17 morning anchor and grandchild.

The irony of the "Ice Cream Bowl (presented by Hudsonville Ice Cream)" is that Doug W. couldn't make the radio call due to illness.  How wrong is that?!

It's just a fact that Olivet is horrible!!!  If anyone has taken the time to look at the roster picture for Olivet let me know if anything strikes you as odd.  I believe the team has a slightly different look than years past.

Who would have thought that when Alma hired an assistant coach (although he was only the director of basketball operations) from Flordia, that we would all long for the Seth Stapleton days of past...

HOPE 88 Grace Bible 63

First half was excellent overall basketball by Hope, second half...........not so much.

Hope came out and did everything I was looking for in the first half, they played very good defense, shot well and overall worked very hard.  Tyler Wolfe was hot from 3 and had 9 at the half to pace the Dutchmen who really spread it around pretty good early.  They led 55-23 and thats not deceiving of the effort at all a very hard earned 32 point lead.

Second half was just plain uninspired basketball from the orange and blue, numerous defensive breakdowns and just pretty sloppy on the offensive end.  Although it should be pointed out the end of the bench was in very early.  They simply got outworked, to point that out Hope had a 14 rebound advantage in the first half, while Grace Bible had a 16 rebound advantage in the second.  Hope's second half interior play was shall we say........... terrible.

Grace Bible pobably played harder than any team I've seen being down by 30 and were able to whittle away at Hope's lead and cut it to 16 with about 6 min to go.  It was very apparent at that point that the lineup on the floor wasn't going to get it done and so the starting 5 reappeared and very quickly put it away.

Grace is probably not your average bible school team, they've got some talent and a couple of that talent are Freshman, not very deep though and when pressured make mistakes.  But Hope really could have named their number tonight......and they did.

No box score yet, but Tyler Wolfe and Tim Partridge led the way, Scott Richardson had a nice game inside.  Lots of minutes for everyone so the scoring is well spread out.  Derek Van Solkema had several nice passes and Jesse Reimink and several even better catches.

Hope will play Goshen tommorrow at 3, Goshen beat Madonna rather comfortably by 20 or so.  Goshen has probably got a little better 3 point threat but its a pretty young team and if Hope out works them on defense.  Hope should win by 15+.

Lot of good positives to take from this one..........esp if we forget about the second half.  ;)

Few other thoughts.

------Stephen Cramer's first bucket put him at 1000 points for his career, something we could all see coming his freshman year, Congrats Steve.  Many of those were some of the most athletic moves I've seen in D3 and some of the softest 3's around.

Steve becomes the 30th Hope player to score 1,000 points in career.  I'm getting older because he's the 13th I've actually seen play.  A modest 12 point per game average the rest of the way would give him around 1250 points and rank him  at #15 or so.  He's certainly capable of that.

-----I was hoping we might one up our friends on the East Belt Line with pigs in a blanket at halftime ...........but no such luck.

----We had  a solid crowd of around 2600 tonight, but a very impressive 300+ Dew Crew members, in full voice for most of the game.  There also seemed to be a lot of students sitting in other parts of the arena....."to cool" I guess. 8)

----They did a little work in DeVos over the summer, I'm not telling what it was.......lets see if anyone can guess?       hint:  Its not the painted safety lines on the steps.

----So I guess we're keeping a tally on the consecutive DeVos wins, Hope men now 19-0, Hope women now 17-0.......36-0 at DeVos for basketball.  In another 30 years we'll have that place surrounded with MIAA All-Sports Trophy Banners.  Maybe we'll throw in a couple more basketball ones to.
;D

-----From the great white north, Albion won 98 to 55.............thats a long way to drive for that.

sac

Albion's win far far away from home was Mike Turner's 500th career win.

Congratulations Coach Turner. ;D
