The Knights will face EITHER ONU or COW in the Mose Hole Classic at Wooster at the end of the month.  Calvin opens with UW-LAX.  Right now, the Knights look like the prohibitive favorite to go 0-2 in that tourney, with the other three teams currently in the Top 25.

Lets hope that the Knights do not see it that way!

Massey doesn't see it that way, at any rate. Calvin v. Ohio Northern is almost exactly a toss-up, and if Calvin's got a chance against against La Crosse, that makes for less than 50% probability of an 0-2 record.

Is it becoming a near guarantee that we only see one MIAA in the big dance, or are enough of the losses of the variety that don't yet count in the regional rankings?

Calvin tends to have the best shot at it since most of their pre-conference games are out of region. Last year Calvin pulled it off, with a mediocre first half of the season against non-regional teams and a strong second half, resulting in a Pool C playoff bid. I believe Calvin had only one regional loss before the MIAA tournament.

It's not likely to happen this year though -- Calvin already has a regional loss to Hope, and if they are going to lose another regional game in the MIAA tournament, they'd pretty much have to win all the rest of their regional games. Besides two games against Hope, they'd have to win against ONU and (probably) Wooster late this month. Not to mention two games against Tri-State.

That is a seriously fierce 4 team tournament. Sounds like a good weekend of basketball watching. Too bad I won't be there, but should give some interesting early season indicators on those teams.

Yes, it should be one of those rare four-team tourneys where every game should be intense and close.  Each team will be insured two quality games.  The quality of the line up makes me think of what a NCAA sectional should look like...but of course, we're from the great lakes region, so it'd probably be a first-weekend matchup.   :P

Interesting score

Northwestern 41 Wheaton 39

Yes that Northwestern, Wheaton apparently missed a 3 to win.

Makes Calvin and Hopes' losses in the CCIW Challenge look a little better doesn't it?

By the way, is that an in-region game for Wheaton? ;) ::) :P

It should be pointed out that Northwestern probably plays the perfect style of basketball to get upset by a good D3 team.

Ironicaly Northwestern might be in-region for Calvin.

I just saw that score on the bottom line on ESPN flipping through channels and wanted to make sure it was correct so I raced to the computer. OK deserves some karma for the in-region quote. Throw some at him guys!
NW two losses were to Cornell (3 pts) and Standford (5 pts). They also have wins over DePaul, Miami (FL) and WMU.

It was close the whole way.  Wheaton was just 3-18 from 3 -- one more 3 would have done it.

And that 'one more 3' shouldn't have been hard to find, since they missed 15 of 18! :(

I wonder when's the last time Raymond went 0-6 from the arc?!

Plus 8 to's. Still had 17 pts thou. I have a feeling they were all over him.
