Mr. Ypsi

Now, David, today is NOT the day to kick Penn State out of the 'pathetically weak' Big Ten, since they beat Tennessee, of the 'almighty, invincible' SEC, 20-10!  With Wisconsin also beating Arkansas 17-14, OSU over Florida should make it 'lowly' Big Ten 3, 'best conference ever' SEC 0. ;D

Dear Michigan Football coaching staff,

I am enclosing a copy of the 2004 Rose Bowl broadcast of Michigan vs. USC.   I hope you get a chance to watch it because it was clear that you didn't watch it over the last month and a half.  I don't mean to be nosey but what did you do for a month and a half?  When you break down the game film of this years Rose Bowl please notice the similarities in blitz schemes and packages to 2004.........thats right you could have had a V8,  they are the same.

Also I think its swell the way you guys make the opposing QB look like
Brett Favre and at least 1 WR look like the 2nd coming of Jerry Rice in every Rose Bowl appearance.   I look forward to John David Booty's Heisman campaign next season.

I don't want to sound like a fan who professes to have more football knowledge than you because clearly I don't but I do have a couple suggestions.

Suggestion #1..........Draw plays on 2nd and 17 only work vs 1-10 teams from the Big 10 or teams from the 1970's.

Suggestion #2..........Shotguns are not just for hunting.

Suggestion #3..........Using your QB and WR talents does not have to wait untill you trail by 14 points.

Suggestion #4..........TE's can be used in pass protection, there is no rule that says you have to wait to be sacked 5 times before you can use them as a blocker

Suggestion #5..........Please recruit more than 1 good CB, my god next year your best returning CB is a converted WR who can't catch a ball and who currently couldn't cover a baby's crib with a King size quilt.   Thank goodness he can run because he needs to be fast to catch up with his man after being burned.

Suggestion #6.........Please don't tell us how much speed you are recruiting, because ..........well, they aren't that fast.  It only gets my hopes up.

Suggestion #7.........Statue QB's are only in-vogue at the Hall of Fame, there's a reason you have first choice when recruiting a pure-pocket passer these days.........no one else is recruiting that type of QB.  A QB who can get himself out of trouble can be an asset.

I am also enclosing a copy of this year's Rose Bowl but only the 2nd half.......I want you to pay attention to two things.

#1.  See if you can tell which team was pumped up after halftime, excited to be there, having fun, and executing plays...........and see if you can tell which team looked like they had an oversized corncob shoved you know where.  It shouldn't be hard.

#2.  Play close attention to Pete Carroll's coaching, notice how when his team couldn't run the ball and it was clear it was a futile effort........please count how many times his team tried to run the ball when it mattered.   The Answer is FOUR.  Compare this with your own notes and teams situation.

Lastly I'd like you to notice how when the game did manage to somehow get close again, Ol' Sneaky Pete tried to step on your teams throat and succeeded in sucking the life out of your team.  You might find his techniques usefull...........espicially if you ever get in a situation where say........ polls come into play and you need to sway voters to your side...........or say you play a mindnumbingly high number of close games vs. inferior competition.

Thanks for your time, I hope you understand if my seat licensing fee and season ticket fees don's come in untill the last minute.  As always I'll be looking foward to next football season and hoping we catch Griese'd lighting in a bottle again.

Sincerely,

Michigan fans everywhere.

PS.    The funniest part of the game was when Pete Carroll said with a straight face at halftime........"We need to be ready for Michigan's adjustments".  Even you guys have to have a good laugh at yourselves over that one.

Venting is good. ;D

Hey FDF was our mystery mid-season addition to the Hope squad on the bench Saturday?

I noticed he slipped into street clothes before the Trinity Christian game.

We'll let the Calvin contingent worry about it a little.........mwuhahaha! ;D

Don't sell yourself short.  I have a potted plant that appears to know more about football than does Lloyd Carr.  It has never once called a 3-yard curl on 3rd and 9.

Mr. Ypsi

Did anyone get a count of how many passes Michigan threw more than 10 yards downfield?  It can't have been more than three or four.  With Manningham, Breaston, and Arrington that is a crime against nature!

In fairness to the players, I have a proposal: a rematch with the coaches switching sides.  I call it Michigan 35, USC 10.

Pat Coleman

Ypsi: They called many passes downfield. However, considering the offensive line couldn't protect Henne for more than three seconds, they turned into sacks.

Wait a minute...Penn State is in the Big 10?   ???  Really?  Did that just happen, or am I still in denial?  ;)

I have to admit that I am fonder of conference names that appear to get the number of teams in the conference right.  I still believe that when the Big Ten took in Penn State they planned on running out Northwestern, who had been kind of a perennial also-ran.  All of a sudden, Wisconsin really improved and running them out was kind of a bad idea.

I have no idea if that even approaches reality, but it's my thought and I'm stickin' to it.

Of course, I am still kind of in denial that the Southwestern Conference imploded.  Some would say I am "merely nostalgic", others that I live in the past.  :)

Fact, when Arkansas left the Southwest Conference for the Southeastern Conference, it raised the average of the SAT scores of incoming freshman classes of member institutions in both conferences. ;)

Exactly right.  Look for him to be suited up on Wednesday against the Hornets.  I'll also have to fill you in on his first semester in Philadelphia

Pat: That was all in the first half.  In the second, the protection improved, but they never went back to the deep pass.

SAC - Missed you on Saturday. HOPEfully you're feeling better today. But.. after watching the Michigan game... that didn't help. (Your letter was GREAT!!) Maybe... it was like the movie "GroundHog Day" - and the game is REALLY today. Maybe the O line will show AND play for that game! Okay, okay, I'll come out of my fantasy world. You see, I can say "Go Blue" and be cheering for both Hope and UofM.  But we must move on.

But before we look to MIAA play, I just wanted to give Kudos to Brett Jager for his play on Saturday. Actually the "2nd String" too. Once again they seemed to have the hunger to play more than the starters. So who ever stated it earlier, maybe there was just too much Christmas dinner for the starters! But Brett got a lot of PT and the folks around where I sat were commenting on his defense and his shooting. So HOPEfully the young man from Kalamazoo will keep it going tomorrow when Hope begins MIAA play.

And ... I just confirmed that there is NO JV game for both tonight's ladies game or tomorrow's Men's gave vs. Kalamazoo.  Only Varisity games.

And now.. to honor America and our own home state President, Thanks President Ford. May God Bless You and may you rest in peace.

No JV - really.  Aw shucks, I was looking forward to watching the JV play.   :(

Don't forget to get your picks in!!
