It should be noted that the player of the game was, without question, Desmond Young.  Playing in his second game for the Bulldogs after transferring from Saginaw Valley,

It will be nice to sit back and watch the difference in attention a mid-season transfer to Adrian gets, compared to one to Hope from a certain set of regular posters. 8)

Yes. It's nice to see someone name names rather than play the annoying "I know something you don't know" game.

As opposed to the "my coach has more integrity than yours game".........

Geez Pat you really are a downer lately

Just thought I'd have a little fun with our Knighty Knight buddies who spent 3 months too long talking about Derek VanSolkema transferring to Hope and at least one who still can't deal with it.

Patrick Woolpert took a semester abroad, but most assumed he would not return to the Hope team.

I had no idea Adrian would get a transfer, its a similar situation to Hope last year.  We'll see if anyone notices.

I was actually avoiding bringing up the subject for as long as I could, so as to delay any philosophical arguments about whether a coach should accept a midseason transfer.  However, after his performance tonight, I couldn't help but mention the effect he had on the game.

welcome to the board ladyknight!

Thanks!  Would anyone be willing to explain how karma works, or refer me to where I can learn about it?

Also, I was at Calvin's game against Tri-State last night.  The knights certainly made it look easy.  It's encouraging to know they can hit open looks, and their shooting percentage (especially from three point range) must be a confidence booster.

I also thought that the officiating was pretty loose last night.  There seemed to be a few obvious fouls that weren't called.

ladyknight:
I could write a dimestore novel about karma on this site  ::), but here's Pat Coleman's explanation of Karma from the D3Hoops.com FAQ page.
What is karma?

Karma is similar to the post rating on the old message boards, except it rates an individual poster and follows the poster wherever they post.

Only more veteran posters are allowed to affect a poster's karma, and this is done via links titled "applaud" or "smite" under a poster's name. The restriction is in order to limit the ability of so-called one-star bandits to affect a poster's karma without being registered for the board or a true member of the community.

You cannot applaud or smite yourself, and you can only applaud or smite each individual poster every few hours. Also, if you continually praise or smite an individual poster, eventually you'll run out of karma to give that individual.

Applauding a poster raises their karma by one; smiting lowers it by one.

Many of us could care less one way or the other on transfers.   :)   Still only 5 guys at a time are allowed on the floor.  If you want to fill your bench with talented bodies this way fine.   :)  The point a few of us were trying to make the last time this subject came up was the idea, a history, of  making room for transfers could have a negative impact on H.S. recruiting.   Others feel that using transfers is worth the risk of losing a recruit or two.  One assumes a wise coach would tell recruits and transfers alike his policy is to play the best players.

And of course the only thing that really matters is WWKVSD?
Ya know... since his integrity on such matters seem to be greater now than both GVW and BR.

Oh yeah...  ;) ;)

I agree that coaching staff definitely has the right to bring in transfer students And I also agree that a "history" of doing this can affect H.S. recruiting.  Just coming off of that whole phase, I can say it does not go unnoticed.  And, yep, only 5 on the floor at a time, so balancing that with keeping a team united and the chemistry thing working is another issue that arises.  Totally a non-expert here.  By the way, I learn tons from ya'll, so keep up the good work.

That's especially true after you've spent 4 hours standing in the cold to pay your last respects to a former president, had a genuinely human and emotional--albeit brief--chat with his grieving son, stood silently with thousands, collectively holding our breaths making it so still on the street that I could hear my heart pound as the dead president's hearse, coffin and family drove past us, and then watched and listened in awe as 21 cannons were followed by 21 guns followed by 21 screaming F-15 Eagles flying over our heads. If you don't get a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye after all that you're not human my friends. Today, I just don't give a rat's rump about any transfers.

Rest in peace, Mr. President; rest in peace.  :'( :'(

Calvin's roster this year has a jr. named Griffin.  He played 2 years at Muskegon C.C.  He is atleast the 4th juco to play at Calvin in the last 11 years.  Not much difference between a player coming from a juco as opposed to transfering in from any other school.  :)
Perhaps I am slow, but I don't really understand how using a transfer (from any source) is different for GVW, BR, or KVS.  I am reasonably sure if a player at Calvin had elected to spend the fall off campus (studying abroad) that KVS would have given that person a chance to make the team upon his return.  How does this differ from GVW's decision on Mr. Woolpert?
When it comes to integrity it would be hard to visualize BR, GVW,  KVS, Turner,  or most MIAA coaches doing something (recruiting wise) that wasn't allowed by D3.   :)  Gosh fellas, lighten up.  No one attacked your coach  ;D

Thank you, oldknight.  The transfer thing has been discussed to death, and many other topics along with it.  Putting it in perspective was much appreciated, at least by me.   :)   How about we move on to another topic, folks ;)?

May I suggest Cal the Knight and his new Neck Bearded rival?  Ahh, the Neck Brace vs. the Neck Beard, a truly epic battle.

Now you're talkin'!   ;D  Hey, good clean fun (until someone gets their feeling hurt over facial hair vs. disabled with a neck brace). :D ;D :D
