It should be noted that the player of the game was, without question, Desmond Young.  Playing in his second game for the Bulldogs after transferring from Saginaw Valley,

It will be nice to sit back and watch the difference in attention a mid-season transfer to Adrian gets, compared to one to Hope from a certain set of regular posters. 8)

Yeah, who brought this topic up anyway?   ;)

The issue was not Woolpert..........

...The issue was how different the Adrian transfer would be received compared to how Van Solkema was received at Hope last season.  Which is even more interesting considering DVS didn't play untill February 11 while Adrian's man played right away.

If you'd like a refresher its archived, and your answers today are laughable.  Yes I did bring it up and the response is about what I expected, its ok if its not Hope and yeah I'm done with it.

Thank You.

Free karma for everyone.

President Ford received an honorary degree from Hope College, he had some interesting things to say about Hope and  private colleges.

I took in my first Calvin game since the Hope game debacle last night.  I really wanted to be impressed with Calvin's play.  I wasn't.  Calvin was fortunate to have been so hot from behind the arch.  It was the only thing that won the game for them.

I wanted to see better defensive rotation.  I wanted to see better movement without the ball.  I wanted to see better communication.  I saw 2 out of 3.  Communication was better.  I saw too many defensive possessions where the Calvin defender was late to the ball or rotating to help.

I'm not looking forward to Jan. 13.

I just want to apologize to everyone, I'll admit I was looking for a fight on this one.

I've always prided myself in representing Hope in a positive way and just trying to be the best representative of Hope College on this site I could be.  Seems I failed on this one.

It hasn't been a good 12 months for me and a few times I've let that show through in my comments.  I've always had a smart a## side and I let it come through to often.

Again I apologize, no harm no foul.

The Hope familiy is hurting is a little bit this week, Marcia DeYoung wife of Bob DeYoung passed away on Wednesday.

The Volleyball court at DeVos Fieldhouse is named in their honor.  Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

I did some reading of old posts from last season and a couple things struck me.

1)  Calvin's situation as a team is eerily similar to last season.

2)  What an amazing season last year was  in the MIAA

3)  How many really good and really funny posters we've lost in just over a year

But I was struck by this post which I feel is still one of the all-time best

1.) In your description of the mansion, why didn't you mention the butler donning that gay Knight mascot outfit?

Devossed, The SuperSweetness Hall of Fame does have  a picture of one KresgeKrazy  having his picture taken on the sidelines while getting the phone number of a Michigan Cheerleader about 20 minutes before Kickoff. That was the only thing SuperSweet about that day. That picture is blown up and framed on one of the walls in the board room.

Mark is still wondering why you never called

There's no place as sweet as that where grace is freely given and grace is freely received.  I sure wouldn't make it through one day without it!  Thanks, Sac.

So sorry to hear about the death of Mrs. DeYoung.  I'll be praying for her family and the Hope Community today.

Oh Sac, you're bringing up bad memories in my mind.  At least that game ended with a good result.

Does anyone have any idea why Mantel's minutes have been cut so drastically?  He only played 7 minutes against Tri-State.  I hope for Calvin's sake that he is nursing a nagging injury and not that he is in KVS' doghouse.  He is obviously the immediate future of Calvin basketball so playing with his confidence is not in their best interest.  He already must be frustrated by the lack of touches from a team that guns from the outside.

I don't think he's in KVS's dog house.  He did not match up well with 6'7", 265 lb, freshman center.  The kid from 3State isn't very athletic, but he knew how to position himself in the low post and get defenders on his back so he could receive the ball and do something with it.  Mantel is very talented, he needs to get stronger, ( like every freshman)  keep working hard and stay positive.  The game looks like it is happening very fast for him.  As time goes on he'll get more comfortable.  I think it is easier for a Caleb Veldhouse ( a guard) to come in and play as a freshman than it is for a center like Mantel.

Mantel is very talented and important to the future of the Knights, but Bear DeVries started the last couple of games because of his experience with KVS' defensive system. It takes a while to learn to play defense at the college level, especially in a system like KVS's, and maybe KVS pushed him a little too far too fast. The defense is more important at this point.

I think Veldhouse was a bit of a defensive liability for the first part of last year as well, important as he was and is offensively.

Dark Knight

Apparently 6'6" 185-lb forward Josh Engelsma averaged 24.7 points (72% shooting) and 7.3 rebounds per game in the first 3 games for the JV knights. 6'9 center Brent Schuster averaged 11.3 points and 3 rebounds. They'll make nice additions to the front line with Mantel, Zoerhof, Veltema, etc. next year.

I know th JV teams don't always get that much attention, but making the Hope & Calvin JV's play each other at 11:30pm on the 13th is a bit ridiculous, don't you think   ;)
