-- Second question:  Anyone know about GVW and Olivet coach's conversation at the end of the game?

It seems overwhelmingly likely they were discussing WWKVSD.  :D

calalum

I was impressed with Griffin for Calvin who scored more than 10 points in the first two minutes of the second half including 3 threes.  Meckes is also improving with his scoring.

Well, I'm new to college basketball, but the Calvin game was extremely frustrating in terms of the officiating.  Not necessarily any unfair bias, just total randomness and inconsistent calls.  It's not very fun to watch a game when you never know what call might or might not be made.  And I'm sure the guys don't learn very much in terms of what to do differently!  Hopefully, these three aren't representative of the MIAA crew!

Hope 99 Olivet 70

Hope pretty much took this one right from the tap, the starting five set an outstanding tone and I dare say thats the best those 5 have played together since early in the year (other than the 2nd half vs kzoo).

Marcus VanderHeide indeed set a great tone, didn't hurt than he didn't hit the rim on his first three shot attempts and had 7 quick points. Hope raced out to an earlly 13-2 lead.

Olivet can shoot three's but not much else, they had a lot of trouble with Hope's double teams and struggled against the full court pressure earlly, committing several turnovers.

At the half it was 46-27 Hope after a very solid first half.

Best thing a team can do is start off the second half hot and take the opponent out of game like this right away and thats just what Hope did.  Difficult to single out one guy since just about everyone played well, a 19 point lead was quickly 31 and it was done and over.

Tim Partridge was the best player on the floor for a good part of second half untill the zebras decided they'd had enough of him, 3 very tough calls went against Tim today the last was a laugher.  While Ryan Klein and Steve Kratz struggled a little from the floor their defense and rebounding continues to impress.  Olivet couldn't match them.

There certainly isn't much to complain about when you hit your offensive high for the season with 99 points, Olivet made the Cardinal sin of trying to speed up a game against Hope when your already down by 20.  Thats instant death vs Hope, always has been.

Olivet is unbelievably young, at one time 4 Fr on the floor, Brandon Way and Sieminski (sp?) are impressive players but both only showed the 3 point shot, otherwise there's not much in the way of offense.  However I was convinced that this might have been the most organized Olivet team in quite some time.  They're just really young, but I can't figure how they only lost to Baldwin-Wallace by 3 ?

Scoreing for Hope  Reimink 14, Cramer 12, Partridge 12, Van Solkema 12 VanderHeide 11, Wolfe 10

Probably a late night for the MIAA stats crew on MIAA.org they have another obligation to attend I'm sure, have patience with them.

Few thoughts

------Anybody else a little weirded out by the similarity of Hope and Calvin's starts to the 2nd half.

At the half
Calvin 46 Alma 29.......5 min in   Calvin 62 Alma 31
Hope 46 Olivet 27......5 min in   Hope 60 Olivet 29

Thats just weird.

So what did sac pay the team to get the final margin under 20? ;)

After a devasting national pick'em disaster  Sac Inc. has decided to throw around some weight a little, we simply can't afford any more big money handicapping losses.  I sent a couple of the Kresge goons up to Alma and made them stand in front of KVS.  I just had them say repeatadlly "What are you going to do?"  It appears to have worked ;) :D

-----Brian Puls is on the 42 meals per weak plan at Phelps Hall, for outsiders he's 7-0 and comes in at 2 benjamins.......a little thin.

Scary thought of the day.......
Halftime Hope 46 Olivet 27............Steve Cramer zero points

Nice game today by the Dutchmen.  Best complete game since they've played Calvin.  I firmly believe that at this point Hope is really a team of 10 starters, with some pretty good back-ups still left on the bench.  I like seeing the second five all coming in as unit.  It seems to cause trouble for opponents, as the intensity and type of play is a bit different with the second group.  It's also nice that (depending on who's playing well) we see the first 5 and the second 5 mixed and matched.

Concerning Olivet - I agree with sac - definitely the most organinzed , well played game I've seen from them in a long time.  If they can hang on to these guys, they are gonna be a good team in the next few years.

Just be thankful bballmom, that you don't have a son who played football in this year's Cotton Bowl where he could have drawn Todd Geerlings for his referee. Hey, wait a minute; you do have a son and he already has drawn Todd Geerlings as his referee. ;) ::) ;D

What's the Dutch word for depth?

Diepte

De Universiteit van de hoop gaat diepe 13...........Hope College goes 13 deep.

I have to chuckle at "van de hoop"

Some other usefull phrases for your next Hope game
iedereen slaat uw handen.........everybody clap your hands
dat was een slechte vraag........that was a bad call
uw blinde ref.................................your blind ref
De gekregen hop van Cramer........Cramer's got hops

Zult u me aan de ketchup en de mosterd richten..........Will you point me to the ketchup and mustard
