Green Hornet

Should be an excellent week.

I talked to someone who heard the conversation between Glen and the Olivet coach.  The Olivet coach thought Glen was running up the score. hmmm...

Up by 25...Got your third string in, Olivet is pressing, how are you rinning up the score. Yes, the crowd wanted 100. However, 3 pointers were not being taken or set plays to get the last points. Olivet kept following our third string center with their best players.

Crazy.

Can't wait for the game this weekend. Going to be good. Real good.

I predict Partridge puts up 25points. Why is he not starting?

Wonder what Mr. Soderberg thought of his teams first game a year ago when they beat Andrews 89-49.

The evidence...........

Halftime 46-27

17:44  3 pointer by Van Solkema caps a 14-2 run to start the half giving Hope a 31 point lead

14:16 All 5 Hope starters are subed for, Hope leads by 29

10:44  Tim Partridge fouls out, Steve Cramer re-enters the game

8:54  Olivet 3 pointer gets the deficit to 24 thier closet since early in the half.

7:14 to go Hope leads 80-52 and managaes to run up 1 more point from this point towards the final margin of victory.

5:59 Steve Cramer subs out of the game, becoming the final starter to leave the game, Cramer came back into the game at 10:44 when Tim Partridge fouled out.

5:17 to go in game, Ryan Klein takes and misses Hope's last 3 point shot of the afternoon, also their first 3 point attempt in over 7 minutes.

4:24  Osburn, Holt, Glaser take the floor, essentially Hope's 3rd unit is now on the floor.  Hope 86 Olivet 58

2:03  Olivet starter Brandon Way re-enters the game

1:36 Hope's last FG of the afternoon by Osburn, Hope makes 3 of 4 FT's to finish the scoreing from here.

1:13  Andy Sierminski leaves the game scoring 22 points to lead Olivet

Conclusion:  Sour Grapes!

Almost as funny as when Harmon at Tri-State accused Hope of running it up when they were playing that stupid system ball a couple years ago.

Green Hornet

Thanks for the great support SAC. Where did you get all that data?  The box score?

What is the system offense tri-state ran? The 5 guy at a time thing?

bulldogalum

Yeah, Tri State ran that Grinnell system for awhile.  It threw some teams for a loop, but eventually everyone figured it out and we could get back to playing real basketball.

Really?  I wasn't at the game, but I doubt that was the case.  I dislike the Olivet coach even more now  :D

Before you decide not to like the guy remember what coaching men's hoops in the MIAA is like if you are not at Hope or Calvin.  Playing for third is often the best you can do.

It would be maddening to coach when other MIAA teams have built the tradition.

What are the dominate teams in the MIAA?

men's basketball:  Hope and Calvin - 25 of 27
women's basketball: Hope and Calvin - 13 or so of 17
softball: Alma - 9 of 10
men's tennis: Kalamazoo - whatever
men's XC: Calvin - 20 straight
women's XC: Calvin - 18 of 19
women's swimming: Hope - 22 of 27
men's swimming: Kalamazoo and Hope - 34 of 36 (contested 36x)
women's golf: Saint Mary's - 4 of 5
women's golf: Olivet and Hope - 27 of 29
men's track: Calvin - 20 straight (2 shared with Albion)
women's track: Calvin - 17 straight (2 shared with Alma)

Great find sac.  Looks like the joke was on the Big Eleven this year.

Someone said they seriously send the pre-made shirts of the loser of the NC games to Africa?  No joke....

Green Hornet

Dumping shirts is a terrible idea. It kills local economies in Africa. Local clothing makers can't compete when people throw huge quanities of unwanted clothing on the third world.

wait...not a political website.

Man, was that ever an ugly BCS championship game (from my point of view, since I'm a Big Ten fan   :(   :o   :P  ).  And now, back to basketball . . . .

One quick note about last night's BCS game -

Those of us that bleed the blue (Hope or UofM) thought that the Rose Bowl was a pretty sick game. Thanks to the Nuts from Ohio, those flowers are starting to smell a bit better.

While I am a fan of the Big 10, I am not the least bit sorry to say that I am a fan of Michigan first and foremost.  And being a Michigan fan living down in Ohio, I have a hard time pulling for the Buckeyes in anything no matter the sport or the opponent!  So, I am not ashamed to admit, I was not pulling for Ohio State to win the National Championship even if they are representing the Big 10.  There's just an arrogance that has been growing more and more with the Buckeye nation down here that it is almost getting to the point of rediculousness!  I mean, I have been having to hear predictions on the Championship game for well over a monnth now and I don't even think the thought of losing ever crossed one single Buckeye fan's mind?!  So, maybe the beatdown that OSU received at the hands of UF will bring all of those arrogant Buckeye fans back down a few notches.  I can only hope anyhow! ::)

Rant over, back to basketball...

realist

7 weeks lay off is just to long between games.  This amount of time between games also hurt MI.  Interestingly both USC and FL had 2 games after the MI/OSU game.  The bowl format was always bad enough, but this extra week compounded matters.  The Big 11 should go to a playoff game a few days before Christmas.

I hate the idea of a big ten playoff game.  The season is playoff enough.  Frankly, I wish they'd play everyone, and only have 2 nonconference games.  Further, the NCAA should mandate that each team start the season the same week, and that everyone finish within one week of one another.  If I had my way, those teams that have conference championship games should only play 11 regular season games, so as to not gain an unfair advantage over teams in real conferences, but that'll never happen.

In other news, Beat Calvin!
