I have all the sordid detail, but I'm constrained from sharing on the advice of my attorney. :P

No conflict of interest I'm sure. ;)

I saw the '65 game in 1990 at the Women's National Championship game. ;D

Kronemeyer, Shronemyer!  Just remember, any place other than the Civic and that buzzer beater would have been two feet short.

This reminds me of the movie Hoosiers when Gene Hackman has his kids measure out the floor etc.  15 ft is 15 ft. :P :-*

Sentinel has an article about Calvin's Spoelhof Center.

I see they managed to slip the "Master Plan" in there again. ;D

Ironically, sac, the master plan called for the school to go for Heinz money and call the project the Calvin Ketchup Complex.  ;D

Sorry, but the best all time "Buzzer-Beater" was on Feb. 24, 1965 when freshman guard Don Kronemeyer won the game with a shot about one minute AFTER the buzzer went off at the end of the second overtime!  I was at the Civic Center game as a Hope freshman.

Is Don related to the Kronemeyer sisters (Lois and....oh shoot, I forget the other one)?  That would explain why they are still faithful fans to this day; I always wondered what kept them coming back to games season after season (I guess I should just ask them!). :)

I think Old Knight dated one of the Kronemeyer sisters back in the day.  ;)

Whadaya mean--one of the Kronemeyer sisters? ;) :P

Any ideas of why oldknight got dumped twice?

Didn't get dumped, just couldn't afford em'. Remember, they were Hope women so they were used to the Huizenga handshake. ;) ::)

About a year and a half, actually.  Hard to think I'll have to join the real world so soon! ;)

Does anyone know when the doors first open Saturday for the general public/students to come in?

Albion at Hope

This has been a tremendous series the last few years, in fact for entertainment these have been some of the best games to watch for this Hope fan.  Going back to 2001 these teams have split the regular season matchup each year and Hope winning 2 of 2 in the MIAA tournament over that same time.

Most of these games have been defined by  defensive play but there have been some headscratcher games like last years 17 point win by Albion and Hope's 19 point win both at home.  The loser of this game hasn't crossed the 65 point mark in the last 11 games.

Here's the last 3 years worth of Hope/Albion

'04   Hope 71   Albion 61 (A)
'04   Albion 76   Hope 60 (H)
'05   Albion 68   Hope 44 (H)
'05   Hope 68   Albion 59 (A)
'06   Albion 76   Hope 59 (A)
'06   Hope 74   Albion 55 (H)
'06           Hope 76   Albion 65 (A)----MIAA semi final at Calvin

Last year at this time both Albion and Hope were in the top 5, since then both have graduated a truckload of talent such as Brandon Crawford, Mike Bailey, Garret Gibbons for Albion Andy Phillips, Eric Voisin, Greg Immink for Hope and others.

This year the Brits have struggled mightily, thier defensive numbers are way up from historical levels but looking at what they lost its not terribly hard to see why they've struggled.  The lost one of the top 3 or 4 big men to play in the MIAA in the last 2 decades, arguably their best 3 point shooter and also arguably the best and most difficult to gaurd point gaurd in the league last season.

On paper it would seem Hope's a big favorite but something tells me Albion will find a way to dig deep and compete hard for this one.  I think Hope will struggle to put the Brits away, but I'd still consider them and 10 point or so favorite.

Also intrigueing and the more important battle of the night, Calvin at Adrian.  Has the transfer of Desmond Young made the Bulldogs a sudden and surprising contender for the MIAA?  A very big game for Adrian.

I'm on a crazy schedule lately at home and work, so I have limited chances to pick my spots to read up and post up on d3hoops.  But here's one I didn't want to miss.

Afterthought for Week 1 . . . .  Olivet's coach get my nomination for the "Grey Giovanine Award" of the week for his conduct after the game last Saturday.  One might even say his behavior was "Giovanineesque", rather than "VandeStreekish" or "VanWierenish".  Pat, if ever there was a need for spell-check on d3hoops, this was it.   :P   ;)

Now bring on Week 2!

You have to be very careful with condiments, FDF!
You're showing admirable restraint. ;D
