*  Pivital moment - VanSolkema's attempt for a lay-up at 14:28 in the 2nd half with the stripes making the "X" motion after the play.  Being in row Quadruple G, (Okay, it was just double G) I didn't see the complete play, but the replays on the local TV sports broadcasts truly show it was intentional.

It was intentional (as is the case with many fouls) but it wasn't particularly flagrant. After seeing the replay on TV it seemed the ref called it because their wasn't any real attempt to go for the ball.

What I thought was interesting about that call was that the Calvin player may have screwed himself by trying to keep from hurting VanSolkema. We ran Tivo back a couple times and what it looked like was he committed a standard non-intentional foul with his left hand but he then also wrapped the right hand around VanSolkema's mid-section. It appeared he may have realized he was fouling pretty hard and used the second hand to catch VanSolkema when they were going to come down, but instead he just shows more contact away from the ball which drew the ref's vision to all the unnecessary contact. I can certainly see the reason to make that call, but it would not have been a terrible call to go as just a personal foul as well.

It was, as sac mentioned, a tightly called game. Too much so, in my estimation. I was a little less impressed with the quality of the officiating, but the mistakes were pretty evenly spread out. In any case, the players knew pretty quickly that the refs were going to call it tight and could make the adjustments they needed to.

I agree about the quality of the officiating.

When Veldhouse took the charge pretty late in the game, did anyone get reminded of a similar play late in the Calvin-Hope NCAA game?

2 four point plays in one game is pretty rare, but Griffin should have had another opportunity when Cramer hit him.  Tom Cleary remarked on TV that he thought Griffin got hit harder on the 2nd one.

Come on gohope, no mention of the highlight of your day sitting with me at the women's game laughing at the officiating. ;D :D ;) ::)

Uh, oh.  I messed up!  Strike me with negative Karma as well as 40 lashes with a wet noodle!  YES!  Sitting next to SAC at the ladies game was the BEST part of the whole day of Hope vs. Calvin Basketball   :)

I can't wait for the game on Wednesday. I can just imagine the Adrian players staying up late at night dreaming about this game.  Hope is ripe for the let down. THey better be ready to play.

No matter how fancy the hot dogs, you know Adrian can't bring the condiments like Hope does:

I'm bringing my new car to Adrian......57 miles per gallon.

yes, its covered in ketchup packets. ;D

Sac:

Maybe you can take a few test laps at MIS on the way ;).  Not sure what the ketchup packets will do to maximize speed, though.

Mr. Ypsi

Perhaps it gets 57 miles to the gallon of ketchup?

. . . or maybe helps him "ketchup" to the pace car.   :D  That is, unless he's "dogging" it.   ;)
But watch out sac, with a condiment concoction like that, Michigan's finest can't miss it.   :o

One last (I think!) comment about last Saturday's game.

Did you know that Nascar has a new event this year?  It happened in West Michigan this past Saturday. It's called the "M-6/I96 Gateway Race".  And though I only know a few posters from this board in person, I am aware of the winner!  Speeding along at a blinding speed, in a white/off-white colored vehicle (it was too fast to get either the true color or the make of the car) was non other than... (drum roll please).... (I bet you think I'm going to say SAC, but you're wrong!!!) It was Civic Minded.  HOLY FASTNESS Batman!  Well, Congratulations to CM for winning the M-6/I96 Gateway.  You're prize will be the same one that is given out by FDF for being the top game picker each week (Yep, that's right - nada!)  All I can say is SAC - you have some competition.  Let's see.... Holland to Adrian... I'm guessing by that speed that you can do it in less than 2 hours!!
