Sac:  Over the years you have done a great job posting, and represented your school well.  Each of us has our own biases, and whom among us isn't proud of the college we attended or support today?

that would be HOPECONVERT, eh?

Do I sense that the board is going dry?  Hope has been declared as the league champion, proper adulation has been observed, so there is not much else to say there.  Even the Hope posters are getting picky about how quickly they can lose their karma, or that regular posters should not critique their players.  Now SAC is out of commission, which is like the board playing the second half without our star center.

VanLaare had some help with Chris Knoester at gaurd, did he also play with Ryan Stevens?  I also remember Rob Orange being a decent player around that time.

VanLaare,  Knoester, Thwaites, Stevens, and  a frosh  pt grd Ryan Stahr... A pretty talented team that smoked the Hornets by 20+ in the 1994 MIAA tourney championship game.  It was so ugly for Kzoo that when we finally hit 10 pts with about 6 minutes to go in the first half, the Calvin Students broke out the "double digits" chant.
There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

I don't think any of us particularly set off to become the spokesperson of our schools. I do know however, that it's unavoidable, especially when you post a lot or are a HOFer.

I got an email the other day from an infrequent poster who asked me if I was from Wittenberg.  And I believe he was serious. :D

Hope the move goes well, sac, and quickly for our sakes.

Stinger:  I remember that game, and the cheer.  If I have my years straight didn't K eliminate Hope the previous night? Also recall a well lubricated
Hornet fan being assisted out of the fieldhouse, and I think "the jacket" stayed on the entire game.  Which is noteworthy by itself. :D
nb: nice catch :)  I think the word you were looking for is "defensive" about their players, team or coach. ;)
FDF:  I have been lurking or commenting on this board almost from the start.  It seems to me that over the years Hope fans have been the most numerous posters, and also the most vocal.  Calvin is clearly second, and from there it tails off rather quickly.  Remember D23?   :)

I was told by another poster recently that they have been getting questions about whether I was a Elmhurst fan!  :D :D :D :-X

Wow, my sympathies David. :'( That's akin to asking Dark Knight, Goodknight or OldKnight whether they root for the Flying Dutch. :o

I've really enjoyed sort of being the Hope rep on this board, its a HUGE responsibility, I never intended it to be that way but it just sort of happened.   I encourage our lurkers to speak out and add their voice, and more importantly I encourage our regulars to let them.  One thing that has been noticed by more than a couple Hall of Famers is that we tend to be a little clique and are quick to point out others errors or quick to disagree.  We're working on it.

I'm just wondering why you feel you have a need to represent Hope on this board.  I see this as forum to present my own opinion.  I have tried to remain as anonymous as possible so I can state my opinion without having to please somone else.  It seems to me you cannot be as honest with your opinions if you consistantly view yourself as an unpaid extension of Hope College.

Not that sac needs me defending him, but I don't see how these things (representing a school and presenting your own opinion) are exclusive. It's not as if the administration of Hope College is monitoring sac's postings to make sure they are in line with college policy. You don't post to please someone else, but for better or worse you are are associated with certain institutions in life, and those affiliations reflect on you as much as you reflect on them. I don't think honesty is the issue here. Perhaps there is a loss of objectivity, but I think there is a compensation of familiarity and intimacy. In addition, I think the other posters are shrewd enough readers to sort through someone's posted opinions and how their allegiances might come into play.

As for me, I'm still getting used to the dynamics of the board, but I rather enjoy the ribbing. That said, I am truly disappointed sac will be moving and his postings will decrease.

In my previous post, I meant no disrepect to the Hope fans, just would like to hear alittle more from some of the other MIAA posters from other schools!   I read D3 Sports MIAA posts daily and enjoy most of the discussion, and it's a great way to keep informed of what's happening around the league.  Keep up the great posts!!
P.S.
To the private email, sorry I am not that person's mom.  I do have a son that currently plays in the MIAA but not at Calvin.  My husband and I have been treated very well by each school in the MIAA, and actually so has my son.   He just received very encouraging words from an opposing coach just last week after a game which meant alot to him.

Its a little confusing because there is a BasketballMom and a BballMom

BasketballMom

Yes, I figured that was causing the confusion!  This basketball mom supports & follows all MIAA teams EXCEPT when they are playing vs. my son of course, and try to be a good sport about it.  Again, didn't mean any hard feelings.  Just enjoy of the posts on a daily basis.

The Hope fans the most numerous - probably.   And with numbers typically comes volume.  I do love the fact that over the years we have gotten to know each other (sometimes even in person).  To me the best part of that is that it allows for all the ribbing we give each other.  Makes me remember growing up with 2 older brothers.  I think those of us who have been here from the start take all of it a bit easier than someone new.  I mean they start reading this board, and probably think some of the jabs we take at each other are really meant, when we're just teasing and having a good time.

Who could forget D23?  And I sure do miss those Albion guys - like "he who shall not be named".  In their day they also consumed a fair portion of the posts here.

I don't think there are any hard feeling, at least I sure hope not.  Afterall, we're all just basketball fans.

Keep posting - I love to hear the perspective of fans from all the schools, and especially from a parents point of view.

I'm guessing Jeff Cooper is your son and he got kind words from Buck Riley or KVS as he had very good games against both teams.
