I can only imagine their job to be doubly tough at a place where the administration doesn't give the full support of the athletic program...If Passage (or any other K coach) had the resources that KVS .... the glory days of '96 wouldn't be such a distant memory...

What great resources does Calvin give KVS?  He was the men's AD, basketball coach plus a teaching load?  Poor lifting facilities/access?

What does Calvin have that the other MIAA schools don't?

GVW must have taken our advice and decided to do the classy thing and not run up the score for once.

NB:With Calvin having scored 105 last night it might not be wise to keep beating that particular drum. ;)

It must have been your advice. I heard that GVW made a phone call earlier in the week asking the almighty question, WWKVSD?   ;)

Im not sure what you mean with "'encouraged/supported' the Stingers."

I meant what I "said". Just the rumors that coach either directly or "indirectly" helped the stingers "loosen up" before games...  ;) ;)  :o

Those rumors are false.

Absolutely? Positively??? I mean I got this from a former K footballer, who hinted around it, saying something along the lines of "someone" providing or providing funds for certain sudsy libations... Just what I heard. No disrespect for Joe...

Okay...  I've been lurking long enough...

Can we put this "your coaches have no class/ours are the classiest" thing to bed now?   ::) :P

Saturday...  Many Hope posters planning on making the trek to Kresge?  Is there a caravan one might join?

I knew that I should have counted to 10 before I posted, but I just couldn't resist!!   :)

Alma's problems have not been getting kids to come to Alma........its been keeping them at Alma.

3 years ago the Scots had one of the best Freshman classes I've seen in this league

Ricky Clarkson--Saginaw
Anthony Jones--Detroit
Isaac Smith--Merrill
Mike Thompson--Muskegon
Brian Hall--Newport
Jamie Diener--Hemlock
Domonick Allen--Detroit

Hall, Diener and Allen were 6-9,6-7,6-7

The next season the talented Mark Barnes was added to the mix from Saginaw along with So Anthony Naylor at 6-9 .  But already Thompson, Hall and Allen had left the Alma program for different reasons.

Last year's Freshman

Rob McGhee--Brimingham, Al
Ben Sen--Turkey
Ryan DeHaan--Rockford
David McNally--Detroit
Soph Mike Murphy joined the mix as well

But gone were Anthony Jones, Ricky Clarkson, Mark Barnes and Anthony Naylor

This year Ben Sen, Rob McGhee and Mike Murphy have disappeared from the Scots program.

This would be the class of 2004's Sr  year and if they'd all stayed, I have little doubt Alma would be right at or near the top of this years MIAA.

This years Alma team would have been something like

Anthony Jones
Mark Barnes
Anthony Naylor
Isaac Smith
Mike Thompson
Dominick Allen
Brian Hall
Jamie Diener
Ricky Clarkson
Rob McGhee
David McNally
Mike Murphy

Not only a great starting 5 but a deep bench with some height and a couple terrific 3 point shooters.  Alma would have been very good this season.

Yeah, the 4 paragraph reply dripping with sarcasm was 86ed just before it made it to the board.   ;)

24 hours after game night and this place is a ghost town again.  Is it Saturday yet?

KnightSlappy

Saturday score predictions anyone?

Calvin       -16
Adrian

Albion
Hope        -30

Kzoo        -5.5
Alma

Olivet
Tri-State  -6.5

And my coaching staff is the classiest of them all.

bulldogalum

If those are the official sportsbook spreads, I'll take Adrian, Albion, Kzoo and Tri State

You know, it's easier to find stuff to say if you actually go to the games. I couldn't make it last night - I'm hoping to make it to Albion on Saturday. I don't see a 30 point Hope win as I expect all the teams to play them tougher the second time through. 20 wouldn't surprise me though.

Let's see: Calvin scored 105, Mantel had a big dunk toward the end, and I don't see the Calvin posters talking about not showing up the opposition. I was pleased to see some of them, however, address the complexity of playing a game when you are clearly outmanning the opposition. It is tough on a coach, and on a team. In those situations I'd also like to see the Hope fans back off. 100 is just a number, after all.

Anyway, I'm probably just making trouble now. It's Thursday, I get to sleep in tomorrow, I've had a long day and I'm feeling my oats (speaking of which, some malt and barley might be good right now...)

Per sac: one thing that has intrigued me about Hope the past couple of years, but this year especially, is GVW's ability to keep guys on the team who are in a supporting role who could clearly be starting elsewhere. Not an easy task to fulfill. Must have something to do with the academically rich and diverse environment ;)

Another 7:30 game on a Saturday. Not optimal, but doable. I'm already itching for Wednesday's game (having no need to take them one at a time).
