It seems that Calvin is finally starting to get the D going.  If they can keep up the intensity on D then it could be another good one on Wed.

And the posters go wild as I reach 200 posts.  I hope this isn't running up the score.

-----I'm flumaxed by the subbing pattern, Hope's 2nd group didn't get enough minutes in my opinoin.  Those guys play better as they get momentum.  The shifts have gotten too long...........just my humble opinion.

I looked at the number minutes played last night.  Reimink 29,  MVH 31, Cramer 32, DVS 33.  I would have thought GVW would make sure that he limited minutes last night with a game on wednesday.  When things are tight GVW shortens his bench and gets much more animated with the officials.

I feel like GVW has always had a tendency to shorten his bench as the month of February comes around. Maybe that's just my perception but it just seems to be the way he works.

No real surprises last night.  It does look like Albion has improved dramatically, and they will be even more ready come the MIAA tourney.  Am I correct they (Albion) tried pushing the ball down low?  Just making an assumption from looking at their scoring spread.   :)  No surprise at Calvin either.  Looking at the minutes played Veldhouse 32, Griffin 26, Smith 33, and Meckes 29.  About the normal pattern.
Should be another good one tomorrow night.  At this point it looks like Hope has to be favored, but if Calvin steps up the D, and denies some of the 3's it could get interesting.  If Hope is hot from beyond the arc it might get ugly again.
IMHO opinion Hope might have been 1 spot higher in the polls if they had played on Sat.  Sac may very well be right on the home court issue.

New d3Hoops poll is out: Hope men up to 6th, between the two W's.

Interesting.............higher than I'd like to see, I still think half the CCIW is probably a little better.   I've also told  a couple Woo posters that I'd take the home team in a Hope v Woo or Witt game.

Maybe the word got out? :D

Its great to see Hope in the top 10 again but I agree with SAC it seems like it might be high. Really no idea how to rate this team as it compares to the rest of DIII. Only real challenges this year outside of the second Calvin game were losses to Carthage and Wheaton (road and neutral to top 25 teams). I wonder if Hope is the DIII answer to Memphis. Top 10 team with a great record who is a Goliath in a league filled with David's. And Memphis never does well come the NCAA's.

By the way, it is unnecessary to remind me how the David and Goliath story turns out. No comparisons to the MIAA tourney are necessary.

Couple of thoughts

- sac - karma to you for using the word flumaxed - and I agree.  It almost seems as though the substitutions are based on score than time - which I can somewht understand - but at the same time, the 2nd unit is still scoring well per minute played.

- al - where do I look into the stats to find the "animated with the officials" numbers.  I would say that considering the kind of officiating we saw last night, GVW was actually calm the whole game.

I'm all in favor of giving karma for the use of the word "flummox," so long as it is spelled correctly. I know at this time of year I am on guard against getting flu-maxed. Kudos to sac for his prediction re a possible Hope/Wooster/Wittenberg matchup. Interesting.

DVS not only shoots the ball from a low angle, but he also seems to hold it near the base of his palm and roll it off his hand. It's unorthodox, but I can't say I care if he shoots 50%. The problem with getting out on him is that he can beat most MIAA guards off the dribble, as well as the fact Hope tends to run a lot of high screens. Personally, I think he has played very well this year.

I have to confess to being very nervous about Wednesday's game. It sounds like Calvin is finding its defensive intensity, and I think Hope is really going to struggle with Calvin's size. I expect another close game. For Hope to win MVH has to shoot well and go inside more, and Reimink has to stay out of foul trouble. For Calvin, they'll have to play tough defense on Hope's guards and pound the ball inside.

I hope that HOPE plays well tomorrow night. My psyche can't handle another defeat for teams wearing orange and blue (I will be recovering from Sunday night for weeks).  Should be a great game and I think it will be a close one.

Interesting side note - The Holland Sentinel today has an article about the Calvin game from last night, but nothing but a score for the Hope game.  The GR Press on the other hand, has articles about both.  ???

No stats, just another one of my totally unbiased observations.  :D

Perhaps this can be used as a source of motivation for the Dutchmen tomorrow..."Our own paper doesn't respect us, let's show them we're worth covering." ;D

FDF I concure with your impression of GVW being rather calm considering the officiating last night.  I expected to see Glenn being restrained by Matt Neil after a few calls.

Good atmosphere from the over 50 Hope crowd.  They got a little irritated with officials in the second half.  Of course in the second I don't think we went more than two minutes without a stoppage of play.  Didn't think there was a real good flow to the game hindered by the refs and some turnovers.

As I sat in the front row I had a good vantage point for some of the calls and was perplexed after a few.

No school again today.  I guess that its too cold for the children to be out.  I, of course, didn't have much of a problem, but some parents will send their children out to the bus without coats on.  What are they thinking?

I see Evan Way did not play last night.  Is he hurt or was that a Coach's decision?

T-minus 31 hours to tip off and no sign of anything which could be considered smack-talk by either side? Perhaps the Monday make-ups are part of that, but I have a feeling both sides are nervous enough to not want to tempt fate. Calvin is improving, but are so far 0-2 and now have to do it at The Dick, while Hope is confident in knowing we can beat Calvin, but also seeing a team finally hitting their stride perhaps.

I'll get the ball rolling with some trash-talking though: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/33426
