Frankly, it is hard for me not to see it as a two-team tournament.

Frankly, it's hard for me not to see it as a one-team tournament.  I would not be surprised to see Calvin go down to Albion, Adrian or 3-State.

It should be a rule in the MIAA that if you score above 90 points in a game - you should stop playing immediately so that the other team's feelings don't get hurt.  In fact, let's make it eighty so that a few lucky shots don't equal one hundred.  Holy S^%$!

Good game to the D_ _ _ _men.  We'll get you wooden shoe wearin, tulip sniffin...

Can we have one more day of school cancelled?  THat would be da shizzle.

Nate Newton - did you hear me on Fox Sports Radio for the Superbowl, Carl?

Awesome, huh?

Hope is the Worm.

My wish  for Hope tomorrow night is to be like a worm after a hard rain.  Curled up on the concrete and dying.  ;D

Funny!   :D  I can't even work up any animosity over that one.  For the record, Al, I've really enjoyed your posting this season.  Well done -- thanks for the many insightful contributions. :)

Have a great time tomorrow night, everyone.  I'll have my tootsie pop (orange of course) at the ready, but I'm HOPEing I won't need it!   ;)  (And yes, I'm also HOPEing that a little orange and blue sends some chills through someone's spine...)   ;)

It's possible but I would be very surprised. In fact it would take a minor miracle for Calvin to go down to Albion, Adrian or 3-State. Calvin currently has a 3 game lead on Albion with a 7-3 record vs. the Brits' 4-6. Albion does have an easier final 4 game schedule taking on Alma, K, Calvin and Olivet but only the Calvin game is at Kresge. Meanwhile Calvin plays Hope, Olivet, Albion and K with only this Saturday's game against the Comets at home. For Albion to have any chance at slipping into 4th place they first have to win all 4 games. Given that schedule it's doable but I wouldn't count on it. If Calvin wins just one game and Albion sweeps then the two teams tie at 8-6. Since Calvin and Albion would then have split the season series the second tie breaker goes into effect. I'm not sure but I think the second tie breaker is the two teams' records against the highest ranked team. If I'm right about that, the tie breaker goes to Calvin because they split with Adrian while Albion lost both games to the Bulldogs (both Albion and Calvin would have the same record against Hope and 3-State). To sum up, I think it's very unlikely that Calvin will open on the road even if they go into the tank the last four games.

I was referring to the tournament itself, and not the final league standings. I'll be surprised to see either Hope or Calvin lose to someone other than each other in the tournament. As for the rest of the season, if Calvin wins tomorrow night they'll win out, including at Kresge.

21:20 until tipoff. I'm all atingle.

DVS not only shoots the ball from a low angle, but he also seems to hold it near the base of his palm and roll it off his hand. It's unorthodox, but I can't say I care if he shoots 50%. The problem with getting out on him is that he can beat most MIAA guards off the dribble, as well as the fact Hope tends to run a lot of high screens. Personally, I think he has played very well this year.

Really, when he shoots, even though it may not be "picture-perfect" form, it lands VERY softly on the rim.  I dont know what the technique is but more of his seem to settle in the hoop even after hitting the rim.  When he came to Hope last year, I thought he was overrated (probably even more so in his own mind...) and thus didnt try very hard.  But this year he has really competed and played very hard.

good morning USA.. i gotta feeling that its gonna be a wonderful day!!

T minus 11 hours 30 minutes to tip off and I can't wait!

Is it to early to mention that a Hope win clinches at least a share of the MIAA championship?

Looks like its time to hoist another banner.    :P

I don't think you really want to start the banner discussion.  The runner-up banners are cute though.

Why all the excitement?  Must be that big Duke-Carolina game tonight! ;)

That's a pretty decent rivalry too. But there, the stakes are too low to make it really meaningful.

I cringed when I saw dren suggest it was time to hoist another banner. I knew that would not go by unremarked. All I can say to that is: 82-81. It'd be 82-60 if it weren't for the lousy 70's. That was just a bad decade all the way around.

???

I'll explain Al since most Hopesters would prefer to forget the decade of the 70's, and not just because that's when we wore doubleknits and leisure suits (I don't even want to mention bellbottoms). Calvin won every game in The Rivalry that decade--21 in total--and if you can conveniently forget that the decade ever happened Hope goes up 82-60.
