It probably would have been the best ever in DIII posting history

Somewhere there is a horse skeleton Ziggy is beating mercilessly.

It's only been hit 97 times, the crowd is cheering for 100

Just as I'm booing and threatening to walk out of your show, you bring out the A material. Very nice turnaround and a genuine LOL.

The board is pretty quiet just 5 hours and 37 minutes from tip. Do I sense a nervousness from both sides? I anticipate a very tense and close game but think Hope can make it 5 in a row.

NCAA President Myles Brand will be at the Hope-Calvin game tonight. (http://www.hope.edu/pr/pressreleases/content/view/full/13054)

Great opportunity for the schools to highlight the purity of DIII hoops, however, I can't help but not like Brand (and it has nothing to do with firing Bob Knight, I could care less). I just think the NCAA is a hypocritical organization overall.

Go Hope!!!

Usually by now folks are saying if this person or that person brings their "A" game then (insert team here) will probably win.  What I like about Hope this year is that so many different guys can step up and make things happen.  Calvin may key in on one or two or three players and I have every confidence that someone else will step in and "get 'er done".

I actually ran into that guy at a salad bar.  He called me some derogatory name - but his thick Indiana accent made it sound like he was hitting on me.  Luckily I had my pocket Indana language dictionary.    He used words like picket fence and Husker.

I replied with,  "Husker? I don't even know her."  Then I threw a chair at him.

God save Bobby Knight!!!! Click on the Link for Sportscenter's top 10 BK Soundbytes.

Why all the excitement?  Must be that big Duke-Carolina game tonight! ;)
That's a pretty decent rivalry too. But there, the stakes are too low to make it really meaningful.

I cringed when I saw dren suggest it was time to hoist another banner. I knew that would not go by unremarked. All I can say to that is: 82-81. It'd be 82-60 if it weren't for the lousy 70's. That was just a bad decade all the way around.

Less than 10 hours!

Don't start down that road now. Arguments like this always remind me of Ohio State message board fans who like to show how Michigan doesn't really have any advantage in the all time series when you select all the right time periods strategically. I always end up hearing these arguments as "the series is dead even... if you just don't count the times when we sucked" or "we're undefeated... in all games in which we didn't lose."

Let's just build some breathing room into the series record by taking a 2 game lead tonight. (Also, I've never checked this out, but I know the rivalry history indicates Calvin disputes the very first Hope game played as not an actual contest. Does the current 163 game count include that disputed game or not?)

Of course it's a bad road to go down. Nothing but pitfalls. I enjoy it nonetheless.

I was at the lunch today with Myles Brand. It was a pretty interesting presentation, and he said all the right things about THE RIVALRY. He certainly seemed to be excited about attending the game tonight. His tie was a little too close to Calvin colors for my taste. They should have decked him in blue and orange. I think the Calvin people also had a hand in diverting his flight to Grand Rapids.

He was asked if he missed Bobby Knight. He simply walked to the microphone and said "No" and stepped back. He also said that we will probably never see a D1 football playoff system.

A little over three hours. My keys to the game:

1. Reimink has to stay out of foul trouble.
2. We need MVH to spend some time in the interior, and to hit 40% of his shots.
3. Keep Calvin to under 40% 3-point shooting. Keep Veldhouse and Griffin to under 30 combined.
4. Get more than 30 from DVS and Cramer.
5. Don't shorten the bench.

Calvin will have to keep Hope off the boards, and get serious scoring from Mantel and Veltema (25+). If they do that, they have a chance. Otherwise Hope should secure the victory with some ease.

I'm filled with nervous energy right now. Hope has a chance to have a special season, and Calvin has a chance to spoil it. Both teams will be up for this one, and so will the crowd. I'm juiced, and getting out my orange and blue and lucky Hope hat (they're undefeated when I wear the hat).

The first regional rankings are out:

Great Lakes Region
1 Lake Erie 20-1 16-0
2 Wooster 18-3 13-2
3 Wittenberg 18-3 13-3
4 Hope 17-2 10-2
5 John Carroll 14-7 13-5
6 Ohio Northern 16-5 11-5

Hope's spot at 4 does not surprise. I expected them to be behind Witt and Woo. I know nothing about Lake Erie though although the record is impressive. They are first in the Others Receiving Votes on the D3hoops poll so clearly they don't get a lot of respect despite the record. Hope needs to keep up the good fight in the MIAA because finishing with more than 3 losses could spell trouble if they don't take the MIAA's automatic bid.

I thought I remember seeing the other day someone posting something about logging in to the WGVU website and possibly being able to watch? the game... Was I just imagining that, or fantasizing it??? I can't seem to find that now...

HELP! I'd really like to watch this one.

Everyone must already be standing outside the dick waiting to get in for good seats. No one has posted since noon really. Although I want to say when I was at Hope I was in line for seats for my last Hope-Calvin game, also the last Hope Calvin game at the Civic Center at 10PM the night before. Granted there were only 6 of us that did this but boy was it a fun time. Plus they let us plug in extension cords so we had a heater and played video games all night. Have to love Western Michigan trust that they left the door open enough for our extension cord all night:) Enjoy the game, I wish I could do more than just listen.

I schould like to disagree about who has the better recod.

Wooster 13-2, .867
Hope 10-2, .833

Myles Brand is not the only celebrity chiming in on this big game.  Bill Walton thinks the team that scores the most points will most likely come out on top.
