Comic note: a student read the NCAA and MIAA rules on fan behavior before the game.

What was up with that?  Were we sucking up to Myles Brand?  Reading things like that does not change anyone's conduct at the game.

The MIAA statement is supposed to be read before every sporting event by a student-athlete from the host school.  It shouldn't be odd, or comic , it's what is supposed to happen.

Correct, although I think it is typically done by the PA announcer

It has been read at every home Hope game for the last few years by the PA announcer - I'm guessing maybe 4-5 years.

The comic portion of HC's post was in the fact that the student/athlete's name is Bobby Knight.  Al left that out in his reply.  And you're right, Stinger, the statement is supposed to be read before every sporting event.  Whether it's read by a student athlete or a PA announcer, is that really the point?  Some schools' announcing is done by students.  I think it's more poignant when it's read by a student/athlete.

This Holland Sentinel writer seems a little pessimistic after 1 loss.

Wow, that poor guy is seriously distraught. I am upset by the loss but it was just one game, I don't think we need to necessarily cancel the rest of the season over it. :D

I think the schools are equal educationally. They'd be fine either way.  :)

It is supposed to be read by a student-athlete, but if not, at least it's being read.

POOF, Babbitt's a little over the top in that article.

Nice pregame feature on the Sopranos and their rendition of the national anthem.

Just curious, was the Pom Pon squad act at half time serious?

Yes and no.  Every year they have a number of routines, and one of them is always a humorous one with some guys included.

I think he has also written under the pen name Chicken Little

He gets paid for that?

Pity the befuddled masses in Holland, having to put up with the cynicism of Mr. Blabbitt and the amateur boosterism of Lee Lapdog Lamberts. ::)

Not starting a debate about admission standards.

I thought Calvin was having trouble filling their Freshman classes, they were a couple years ago.  Hope doesn't have enough room for its Freshman classes, .........thats all I meant.

Calvin caps enrollment at 4,200.  This fall there were 4,199 (really) . . . I think they're working hard to fill that last slot.

Babbitt has made himself appear to be a complete idiot with that article. It's hard to believe he gets paid money to write such garbage. I think every poster on this board who was at the game could have written a significantly better analysis. In fact, every poster who was at the game (and a few who weren't) already has written a better analysis.

Calvin didn't want to embarrass the competition by getting 4200 so they just ran out the clock on their final possession. ;)

Unfortunately the Sentinel article is right that we are likely a one representative conference this year. (Though has it been confirmed that this is only our 2nd in-region loss? If that is the case, then perhaps Hope would be OK for an at-large bid with a 3rd loss in the conference tourney, but I'd rather not leave it to chance.)

Certainly the sky is not falling though. Hope fans can be reminded that despite Calvin opening the game with that flaming ball from NBA Jam and out-rebounding Hope, it took a disappearing act by Cramer and countless misses from 2 feet for Calvin to win a game that came down to the final minute. If Hope had saved that game for an Olivet or Alma game, it would have just been an ugly win, though it sounds like the Albion game was such an ugly win, so hopefully this is not a trend and the team can get back on track going into the tournament.

Should I not ask about any missing posts from late last night? Perhaps the reason for some deleting was already given, but not sure if the posts went on much beyond what I'd seen at the time.

I haven't seen anyone bring it up, but given Cramer's struggles in the first 35 minutes, was anyone else questioning the decision to play him down the stretch? He did nail 4 very key free throws when given the chance, but had some silly turnovers and was still cold from the floor. He can still play defense of course, but might Patridge or Jager have been helpful in the end, rather than perhaps having Cramer trying too hard to make up for his play to that point?
