I haven't been able to listen to the game but the box score sure isn't encouraging. Lots closer than I would hope and disappointed to see DVS and Cramer have done almost nothing.

I predicted a 12 point win and it ended up being by 13.

How did the team actually look? Closer games this week. I'm a little worried about that they are playing tight or something. Couldn't listen today though so hard to tell.

Looks like Calvin and Hope women are all tied up at 37 with about 10 minutes to go in the game.  Should be  a great finish.

Super game... 51-51 w/37 sec

Listening to the Calvin radio in the library right now. All I got was a yell and Calvin stole the ball. Almost sounded like the Calvin player missed a layup. Is that right?

It was a break away for a second, but the Hope player caught up to her to make her pull up for a 6 footer that she missed.  Hope committed some turnovers in OT that helped Calvin secure the win.  Both of these teams will probably easily meet in the MIAA finals.

Calvin wins 90-43 with another impressive performance.  The Knights were up just 18-17 at one point, but it was all Calvin after that.  Smith and Veldhouse did an excellent job at pushing it down the floor and using their speed.  There were a lot of great passes down low for easy buckets.  Olivet couldn't make any of their short shots and had trouble getting off any kind of nice jump-shot.  The scoring was pretty spread around for Calvin.  Looks like Calvin will either play Olivet again in the first round of the tourney, or Kalmazoo.

Now Calvin also has the second-highest winning margin in the MIAA for the year. They played high-intensity defense right through the first half, not bad in the second half either. After a few minutes into the game just about everything they tried offensively worked as well.

That's four excellent games for the knights in a row. Let's see if they can keep building momentum right through the MIAA tournament!

It was an outstanding day for Calvin BB at the Fieldhouse. The opener between the Hope women and the Lady Knights was just tremendous D3 women's hoops between two tough, talented, competitive, and well coached teams. Both teams appear to have the stuff of championship material. It's too bad one these teams is not likely to go far in the postseason (I imagine they'll meet early in the NCAA's) because either squad could well get to the Final Four. Neither team let the other start a run that would last for long but someone eventually had to be ahead after the clock went to 0:00.

The Calvin men showed no bus lag from their Wednesday evening trip back from Holland. I was interested to see how they would react after their big win and the Knights showed they weren't resting on their laurels. They appear to be rounding into the kind of team we thought they would be earlier in the season. They finally are playing the kind of defense you have to play to be a consistent winner, they recover better when the offense reverses the ball and they are simply playing harder. Calvin dominated the boards and entered the ball into the post better than any game they played this season. Olivet looked like a beaten team early in the second half and Calvin continued to execute and build their lead. I also saw something I've never seen before. With Calvin casually dribbling out the final 25 seconds and the shot clock off, an overly feisty Comet decided to steal the ball  ??? and try and score. He missed the layup, Olivet rebounded and a different Olivet player simply dribbled out the final few seconds rather than trying to score a meaningless basket. I'm glad the Knights didn't try and hammer the overanxious thief from Olivet because that could have resulted in an ugly ending to a 47 point blowout.

A very methodical win for Calvin.  They just seemed very even keeled and took apart Olivet.  This is the same Olivet team that Calvin had just a 4 or 6 point lead on with 4 minutes to go at Olivet on Jan. 17.  Calvin finished that game on a 10-0 run.

Caleb Veldhouse shot the ball better today than he has all year.  It would be great if he could get on a roll.

The 3 seniors all played well in their last home game.  The pass from Snoeyink to a cutting DeVries, just before they left the floor for the last time, was beautiful.

Soderberg was very classy at the end of the game.  One of his players knocked the ball away from Chappel as he was dribbling out the last 12-15 seconds. Olivet got possession but Soderberg told his team to dribble out the clock.  He then spoke to his player.  Soderberg has taken some hits on this board but he deserves some credit today.

Thanks Alma.  Nice win for the Scotts.  Not much more to say about Calvin's win.  Always nice when your steals out number your turnovers, and you dominate on the glass. Calvin does seem to be peaking at the right time, but face an improving Albion next.  No time to relax.
Great win for the Calvin women.  For awhile it looked like no one really wanted the game, but defensively it was a good game for both teams.

Well they'll have one more home game in the first round of the miaa tourney, but that's the last regular season home game.  I saw a stat today that said Calvin is now 37-5 in homecoming games all-time.

Trying to play a little Dutch Bingo.  Does anyone know what Caleb Veldhouse's dad's name is?  My mother believes his name is Terry.

There's a women's board, no?

Tough day for the Hornets at Kresge. Enough said.

Two games left, let's get two wins.  Sack it up Hornets.

You can rate how strongly a team plays in a game by taking the point differential, adding the Massey power rating of the opponent, and adding or subtracting the home court advantage as appropriate. If you do this for all the games a team has played, you get the Massey power rating, more or less.

There's a lot of variability from game to game in how teams do -- teams have good or bad days, good or bad weeks. I knew Calvin had had four good games, but I wanted to see what the numbers say. Here's how the MIAA teams' last four games stack up in terms of the power each team has averaged.

Calvin21.9
Hope2.1
Albion-1.4
Adrian-8.4
3State-15.6
Kzoo-15.8
Alma-20.3
Olivet-21.8

For comparison, #1 Amherst has a season-long power average of 19.7, power of 0 would be about #94, and power of -20 would be about #352.

That's correct, and for your 10-point bonus and a week's supply of banket, what is Caleb's mother's first name?
