Thanks Sac.  You stated more eloquently the point I was trying to make. :)
Guess one is in good company when you agree with Sac on a topic, and you both get smitten. ;D

"Smitten" or "smited"?  Smitten sounds like there is a new relationship going on that we don't know about (or want to).  What would the english majors say?  (WWTEMS?)

I mean, other than "Do you want fries with that?"

Wow.  Speaking as an English major, that's an awfully low blow! :)  Nevertheless, I shall not smite you for the cheapshot.

A couple MIAA records to keep an eye on this week.........

Jesse Reimink's .677 MIAA 3pt percentage would break the old MIAA record of .653 by Hope's Greg Mitchell in 1988.........of course the trouble for Jesse is he could go .500 for the week and his average would drop.  .609 by Marcus VanderHeide last year is 3rd on the list.

Zak Silas' .932 from the FT line gives him a shot at the top 5 all-time in a single season.  #5 on that list is .933.

Lastly Hope's 9.67 3 pointers per game would finish #2 all-time in MIAA play, they need just 12 more to fit in the top 3 all-time 3's per game.  Tri-State's "system ball" season 2 years ago tops the list at 13.4

I'd give you karma for that, but I don't want to screw up your calculations.  ;D

Maybe you can figure out a "Quality of Karma Index," or QoKI, which takes into account the karma of the poster who applauds or smites you, and whether you are applauded or smited on your home board on on an "away" (or "neutral") board?  If you can do that, I'd say you've out-researched sac!  :D

Dang it Sac:  I was doing the research, and you beat me to the post. :)

What a board.  One reads post after post of drivel, and then pays a short complement TO A GREAT WOMEN'S TEAM WIN over a highly ranked team and some driveling purist go beserk! ;D ??? ::) :( :o ;)

Amen Brother...

And I wouldn't have mentioned anything at all had NW Hope Fan not responded to Stinger in such an obnoxious way.

My apologies to one and all... Not been feeling well all week and was a bit grumpy with Stingers response to a few posts about the women's game on this board (equally as grumpy w/ David and Pat with even bothering to chime in...). I guess I just mainly have a problem w/ stinger, and have for several years on this board... That being said, and my apologies once again... Lets just drop it... I'll find the appropriate board next time.

Thanks, NWHF.  I apologize too for inflaming things, although that was not my intent.  I just want to draw attention to the women's half of this site whenever I can; I think the women deserve it.  But I'm sorry that I contributed to the overheating of this conversation.  :-[

I don't know for English majors, but I think the answer depends on whether this is a new and distinct meaning of the word "smite." "Mouse," for example, becomes "mice" when referring to furry little crumb removal units, but "mouses" when referring to computer appendages.

"Smited" might be OK if this is a new usage of the word. But if it's the same old "to strike hard or deal a heavy blow," we'll have to stick with "smitten," "smote," or "smit" (which works as both a past participle or [obsolete] third person present indicative).

Thanks.
And I too get bummed, especially as a Hope fan, observing our women win a national championship last year with what felt like "little" support. And this year both Hope and Calvin women need to have as much attention as they deserve.

Should I copy this to the other board???   ;)

Finishing off my stats homework for the afternoon.

Steve Cramer passed Don Overbeek to move into the #14 spot on Hope's all-time scoring list with 1260 points.  Congrats to Steven.

Hope's also in the running to set some team records this year.

Oppnents average points........the record is 66.0 points, Hope's sitting at 63.5

Opponents 3pt average low.........the record is .316, Hope's sitting on .315

Most 3's per game.............the record is 8.0 in 2000, Hope's sitting at 9.3, they're pretty close to guaranteeing they've broken that record already.
