I had thought that Colon Lewis or Todd Blomquist had led the MIAA in scoring in the 90's, but that's not the case.  Those 2 could score, however, and it seems like Alma always has someone that can put up a lot of points.  Smith tore up the Hornets in their last matchup.

The Hornets haven't had a MIAA scoring champion since 1991 when Ron Barczak tied with Steve Hondred at 20.9/game.  Jeremy Cole missed out by 2 points in 1996 when Duane 'The Boz" Bosma won the title.

If Isaac Smith ends up finishing as the leading scorer he'll be the 3rd Alma player to do so in the last 4 years.  Anthony Jones was the leading scorer in the 04 and 05 seasons.

I have little doubt that if Mr. Jones had stuck around he'd have led the league 4 straight years, and would have gone down as one of the all-time top scorers in MIAA history.

Where did Jones end up going to school (if anywhere)?

Well he transferred to Northwood, but didn't even complete his first season.  He was caught (on tape) stealing from a dorm room.

So I guess Alma didn't exactly welcome him back with open arms

We don't care if your on time, we have doubts about your sincerity, and we're tired of hearing about your accomplishments, and wouldn't be caught dead acknowledging them;D

And you guys wonder where your KPP goes, yeesh!

Since I was asked to explain my sig, and I know Goodknight and saw his sig change.  I thought I'd have some fun with him..............by the way he liked it.

More than a few times I've been accused of takeing comments to seriously or not having a sense of humor.

good advice to follow.

We're a LONG way from the Barczak v Gugino, Gugino v Honderd, Honderd v Barczak days aren't we.

Colon Lewis is probably my all-time favorite Scot player I've seen.  He was a handfull.  Those Alma teams had good starting 5's but no bench to speak of at all.

Stinger, you remember Jeremy Trent?..............Seth Stapleton could score to

.........ah yes, the end of the Bob Eldrige era at Alma, I swear he coached in a Hawaiian shirt one year at the Civic.

Who remembers Kevin Skaggs?

I did like sac's new sig -- and gave him karma for it.

Speaking of old coaches, Steve Hettinga's MacMurray squad is tied on top of the SLIAC, 12-4, 14-8 overall.

It was always interesting going up to play at Alma. As a youngster, I attended a few Millwaukee Bucks camps up there. The Wednesday night trips up there were the worst.

At the risk of getting that dead horse thing a last word about smiting. :'(

We should all be very glad that Pat C. (in his infinite wisdom) choose to use the words (applaud) for positive, and (smite) for negative karma awards.  Just imagine the fun we would have if you go down the word  bench and sub in the words:  Bless & Curse. :D ::)

Sac:  I am a bit surprised Passage (K) did not make your list of great post matchups.   I recall the ot game in 92 when Honderd scored 61.  Very few of those came without a fight.

True, but of course for this board full of the Dutch Reformed of West Michigan, the choice of the term 'karma' is already an odd one. What are we, disciples of Carson Daly?

The new poll is out. Hope at 10; no votes for Calvin. I would say this, there are teams that got votes that, if CAlvin were to play them right now, I'd put my money and Calvin (and that is not a shameless attempt to grab some karma either).

That is, of course, if I were to BET on a game. That is clearly not in keeping with the tradition. But I suppose if we are using Hindu theology, we can just as easily circumvent gambling restrictions.

Is it just me, or do the numbers indicate that Hope fans get smitten more than Calvin fans? Is this some sort of system of double predestination: the Calvin fans reward each other and damn the Hopesters? What type of harsh justice is in the knights' soul? Then again, the RCA has always had a kinder, gentler Calvinism.

Splendid deduction Watson!

between sympathy applauds I lost 10 on Wednesday night alone........imagine if Calvin had lost. ::)  ;D

You might also want to look back at those posts -- even Calvin fans sometimes have reasons for their smites. Saying that you want to knife someone may be crossing the line in some people's books, even if said with a smile on your face.

Personally, I rarely smite, unless the post involves name-calling, ad hominem, etc. I applaud more frequently, when posts make me laugh or are very informative or witty.

IMHO, I think it depends to a large extent on the smitiness (smiticity? smititude?), or perception of being offended, of the smiter, and the smitibility, or perception of being an offender, of the smitee.   ??? ::) :o  To delve any deeper, we might want opinions from the barristers on the board.   ;)

I think a lot of people would agree with that sentiment, I'd imagine even some people pretty well informed about D3 on a national scale. The frightened part of me is having flash-backs to a couple years back where Calvin made the Final Four despite having been in a position which required the MIAA tourney victory at Albion to even make the dance. (Didn't Pat or someone even call that shot before Calvin had even earned the conference bid?) I don't think this Calvin team is playing at that level, but the team currently showing up is definitely top 25 worthy at this point.

Right now I'm glad that barring a complete implosion (perhaps not even then), Hope is guaranteed to get the next potential shot at Calvin at home. Assuming that Part IV is almost a certainty, I'll certainly be nervous in the knowledge that Calvin knows beating Hope is their only potential ticket to the tourney. If Calvin does make the bracket, I certainly wouldn't be shocked to at least see them play in the second weekend.
