"The final word from the NCAA's travel department...Hope to Carthage (and vice versa) is 199 miles."

Hope/Carthage is a regional game.

This is so unbelievably stupid...........unbelievable, stupid, moronic, ignorant, assinine and just plain wrong.

I don't know, I don't think they could get the team bus on the SS Magic Kingdom

Maybe we need to get a sculling team together, and have them row the bus over there.

Even if there was a few mile discrepancy, and the addresses of the two locations were not exactly the same one's used by the NCAA, I'm not sure how there is such a big difference.   ??? ??? ???

This is the NCAA we're talking about - no sense using logic.... or facts

No road trip to Angola this weekend.  I've never been to Tri-State and was HOPEing to make the trip this time, but work calleth me to be at an all-day retreat. So for those of you who are making the trip to the game, please make sure you drive back home like SAC so that you can get the details of the game on the website - because they are really appreciated by those who can't attend the game. Safe travels everyone!

Gohope, you really need to get those work vs. game priorities straight!  No Pizza King for you.  ;D

We'll get you updated as soon as we're done signing for our speeding ticket.   ;D

Well I'm off to work on my teleportation device.............soon all games will be in-region.

Muwahahahahahaha............. ::)

What strikes me most about this is that this "200 mile" stuff is supposed to be about encouraging teams to schedule games that will cause minimal disruption to the student-athletes' academic affairs.  It doesn't matter whether the arbitrary threshold is 200, 300, 400 miles or whatever, the point is that is pertains to scheduling.  You build your schedule a certain number of in-region games and augment it with non-regional games as you see fit.  I assume that neither Hope nor Carthage considered this to be a regional game when they scheduled it; perhaps one or the other would not have chosen to play it had they known it would "count."  It seems unfair to go back and re-categorize it after the fact (lucky for Carthage, but still unfair,) if that is indeed what happened.

If the NCAA is going to lay down rules intended to encourage a certain manner of scheduling, they should stick to the basic assumptions that underlie the rules so the schools know how to react.  With this decision, schools are going to have a disincentive to schedule games in the 200-300 mile band for fear that games they thought would be non-regional will be reclassified and possibly count against them, and instead substitute games even farther away and potentially more disruptive to the student-athletes.  And that's just stupid.

I'd be surprised if either team cared if this game was in region or not. And obviously the only reason we care right now is because we lost. If we won, we'd all be happy to have one more in the W column.

You make good points though about the rationale behind the distances and what potentially it could do.

Now that we are buddies with Dr. Brand... we should just call him and tell him what we think!   ;D

Sure, we would be less upset if we won, but we won last year and it didn't count.  The game was scheduled knowing it didn't count. The game was played knowing it didn't count.  Now, all of a sudden it counts.  That would be like deciding that if a shot is made with your foot on the 3 point line it's worth 2.5 points, and we're going to make that retroactive for the whole season.  I know the world is ever changing, but if the earth's crust has shifted that much (11 miles), then I think we would have felt it.

Would another regional win last year made it so we hosted instead of going to Witt?

Definitely.

Maybe you can figure out a "Quality of Karma Index," or QoKI, which takes into account the karma of the poster who applauds or smites you, and whether you are applauded or smited on your home board on on an "away" (or "neutral") board?  If you can do that, I'd say you've out-researched sac!  :D
I definitely get smitten more on the CCIW board than anywhere else. Abandon hope all ye who enter there.  ::)

Just my twisted sense of humor!  Diehardfan might be able to elaborate if she chooses.
I honestly can't remember anymore... ??? Probably something related to how I noted to Scott that the Calvin fans at the Rivalry game were making pot shots at the Hope fans who were getting a little tipsy watching a game that started at like 11am? :D You know how something is said so many times that the pure fact that it is said makes it funny? (Think ketchup and mustard.) I think it's reached that level. Scott sure does like to say this all the time. :P ;)

Are they counting on the ferry running all year - must be due to global warming?

Or maybe the melting polar ice cap will actually cause the lake to freeze over completely, and we can just drive across.

No, I know what it is, they know that we're the Flying Dutchmen, and therefore assume we can either

      a) fly straight across or
      b) build a dyke and reclaim enough land to drive through.

Although if that's the case, I'm sure that Cavin should also be within 200 miles, as I'm sure Moses was a Calvin fan, and will part the seas for them.
Too funny! K+ for that one! :D

So, I'm trying to picture Scott getting up and yelling about something during games... and well, I just can't do it. :D

I'm sure you folks all know that NCAA stands for No Clue At All, and they continue to fit that name every year with strange rulings such as the Hope-Carthage one.
