I enjoy a mojito, though I generally reserve such beverages for warm summer afternoons.  This time of year, I tend to favor heavier beers and the occasional glass of scotch.

I think it's safe to say that the Kalamazoo student section is the loudest, most positive student section, standing on the highest moral ground, in the history of intercollegiate athletics.

You note a taunting incident near the student section.

Although I didn't see it, I don't condone players taunting fans.  What's more, K's student section does not deserve to be taunted by anyone.  They are the model of positive sportsmanship not only in the MIAA but in all of D3.  ::)

Absolutely true. And the K student section should definately be on YouTube. ;)

I've never had a mojito - and I know this makes me in the minority, but I didn't like "Little Miss Sunshine." In fact, that is rather understating my reaction.

Hope did have two of the most impressive single-player 3-point shooting games I have seen: Cramer going 6-6 in the first five minutes, and Reimink's performance against Calvin. Congrats to Jesse - I sure wouldn't have picked him for the league lead in that category. I don't recall seeing him take many, if any, last year.

While I appreciate Jesse's performance and the quality shooting it takes to set that record, I really think the MIAA needs to rethink their minimums for quite a few records.  You only need to avg 1 3 per game to qualify, so you end up with a list of shooters who aren't primarlily 3 point shooters.  I'd like to see that changed or a second category with a higher per game qualifier to get some of the more frequent 3 point shooters a little recognition.

For you Hope and Alma fans, here's some pictures an Alma fan posted on the mlive fourm.  Thought you might like to see them.

http://hoopmatch.com/index.php?cPath=421_422_471

Such pretty, clean bleachers they have up there at Alma...

It's too bad that some of the other MIAA school's students don't support their bb teams like Hope and Calvin.  The officially listed attendance for the Hope @ Alma game was about 312 (as can be seen by the photos and as noted in the posting above regarding the bleachers); and the Hope @ Albion game the other day was about 268.  Perhaps those could have been "way" down if the students were on "Winter Break" like Hope was last week (although admittedly, I have not checked Alma's or Albion's academic year calender about that possibility - probably less likely).  On the other hand, even with Hope's students being on "Winter break", the attendance for the Adrian game was just under 3,000, although certainly Hope's and Calvin's community support and attendance from that is much higher anyway compared to the other schools.  It's too bad, and while they'll never match Hope or Calvin in this category, it would be nice to see higher attendance for the other MIAA schools.

It has to be tough to get excited for a game you know you are going to lose in the midst of a losing season in a league that you have not come close to winning in a bazillion years.  You migh want to hold off your criticism until you walk a mile in their shoes.

BTW--congrats to Hope on the MIAA Championship

On the contrary the Alma student attendance was actually much better than the locals...........I looked at those pictures and I don't think the photographer ever captured the Alma students.   Granted there was zero organization and they seemed more interested in mocking opposing players and officials than actually supporting their team, but they were there.  I'd say conservatively around 50, Alma's a big gym (3,000) so they have plenty of room to liberally spread out.

So my question is, did they actually change the rule to start using ferry's, or are they now considering the backroads & city streets through Chicago?  IF it's the latter, then why was this not in region last year - it's not like those streets just popped up in the last 12 months.

Neither; they changed the program used to determine distance.  This year it's mappoint; last year IIRC it was Streets & Trips.

While continuing to beat this long dead horse... Mappoint (www.mappoint.msn.com) is the Microsoft live maps I referred to in my other post. Which, as I pointed out, uses the same software (from the Microsoft site) that Streets and Trips uses.

So using this free software and manipulating it to not allow a ferry trip ("shortest drive" from Hope to Carthage takes you on the ferry). I went from Hope College (a legal search term) to Lakeview, MI (500) yards off the freeway, and then on to Carthage College. I did this all using the "shortest distance" (which indeed does take you all through Robin Hood's barn in Chicago), coming up with 203.6 miles.

Still wondering how the NCAA travel office does it...  ??? ::) ???

I'm hoping to find out, as I have a request in to the "travel office" to get some turn by turn directions from Hope to Carthage... That should be enlightening!  :D

Working on the end-of-the-year MIAA awards, there are a TON of guards to choose from.  I almost went with an "All-Guard" Team!

And.... let the smiting begin, but the "Kudos" to the K-College student section is a bit puzzling. Truly they have gotten to a more respectable level, but there's usually a word or two that's shared at the games that wouldn't be rated "G" or "PG"!!!  But then again, they aren't EVEN close to DePauw..... ;D

And... there was an interview on Channel 3 with KVS after the game with K-College on Saturday. I was in the other room and could only "hear" the interview vs. watching it, but "If" his voice was a bit lower, I could have sworn that the person speaking was John Wayne. Not that John Wayne coached basketball, but the tone and style sounded very simliar.  :)

No, Kalamazoo doesn't employ clutch and grab tactics.

Yes they do.

I saw Kzoo vs. Hope earlier this season and I thought they played outstanding defense in the 2nd half of that game.  They were physical and aggressive.  They really shut down Hope for most of the half...(I think Hope has some players that dont play well when it gets physical)  I dont know if you have noticed but "clutch and grab" defense has been allowed for a few years now especially in the post area.

I think I should be reading sarcasm into the comments about the K student section, no?  At least they got it somewhat right with actually showing up and cheering on Saturday.  Perhaps something to build on for next season.

Speaking of that Channel 3 interview.... When I got home, my wife mentioned to me that all they had was the interview with KVS.   Glad to see the local station covers the home team...

Sarcasm on this board?   :)  It is relief sarcasm at best.  Most Calvin fans realize they were lucky to escape K with a win.  A bounce of the ball here or there, or a call here or there, and the results are different.  Yes.  I agree it is better to see the students at the games than worry if they say a word or two that offends someone.

I  decided to cool down a bit last night and save the post until today, especially after reading that KVS quote.  So, the Mrs and I decided to shake up a couple of mojitos, and pop in Little Miss Sunshine (If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it).

I can concur with Calvin fans that the reffing was awful. What I can't figure out: why the hell are you complaining?!!  The fouls were 26-14, and Calvin shot 29 FT's to Kzoo's 14.

I think people were mad about the fifteen or so fouls that weren't called on Kazoo.  Who cares how many were called ..... it matters how many were committed.
