I'm going to go out on a limb and say.......our MIAA players will be hardpressed to impress me with anything they do this week after seeing Mr. Neitzel.  :D]

But.... what if it was a Grand Slam Dunk by a starter with a 40 point lead???   ;D

KnightSlappy

I guess Micah Chappell still has a lot to learn from his former teammate.

calculating the posters poll at the moment, should be released to the public in mere moments.

I can't hold my breath any longer, off to dreamland!  :)

Sierminski got freshmen of the year?  I imagine Mantell and Veltema were pretty close?

Some break downs of the voting.......19 ballots

MVP---3pts for 1st, 2pts fot 2nd, 1pts for 3rd

Cramer ---41 points,   12-2-1
VanSolkema--14pts,     0-6-2
Griffen---------13 pts,    1-3-4
Silas-----------10 pts,     2-1-2

Cramer, Griffen, Silas, Meckes, Young, Smith all received a first place vote
No player appeared on every ballot, ....lots of indecision in this category, but Cramer was still the overwhelming choice on the majority of ballots but was not on everyone's ballot.  Very tough deceision for the coaches this year I think.  Not an overwhelming MVP at all.

First and Second teams-------3pts for 1st team, 1pt for 2nd team

Only Derek VanSolkema received all 19 votes as a first teamer, I find it a little strange he didn't get at least 1 vote for MVP.

VanSolkema--------57 points 19-0
Cramer--------------55.............18-1
Smith----------------55.............18-1
Silas-----------------55..............18-1
Griffen---------------55.............18-1
Benford-------------51..............16-3
Young---------------48..............15-3
Veldhouse----------37..............9-10

Meckes--------------35..............8-11
Reimink--------------30.............6-12
Kellogg--------------22..............2-16
Vanderheide-------20..............2-14
Brookins------------15...............1-12
Clancy---------------14...............1-11
Way------------------13...............1-10
Gallus----------------7.................0-7
Cash-----------------7..................1-4

Yancy 6, Klein 4, Guy 4, D. Smith 3, Sierminski 3........all second team votes
For sure most of us struggled with the 2nd team, we generally had good consensus on the top 7 players, after that we were all over the map.

Freshman of the Year----Same as MVP

Pretty interesting, I think most of us had wide a difference of opinions on this one, mostly influenced by allegences and who looked good when we saw them, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Sierminski grab the top spot........and I agree I think he'll be a good one in this league.  In fact all 6 have good futures ahead of them.  Also I think probably the highest number of qualified Fr we've had to consider in awhile.

Sierminski----35pts.....8-4-3
Mantel--------29..........7-1-6
Veltema------17..........2-3-5
Kratz----------14..........1-4-3
Cardenas-----13..........1-4-2
Machuta-------6............0-2-0

Coach of the  Year

Really hard to argue with this one, I'm pretty sure very few people in Holland really expected an MIAA Championship this year.  In my own personal opinion one of GVW's finer seasons.

GVW---15
Harmon--3
Turner---1

Game of the Year
Calvin at Hope -----12
Hope at  Calvin-------5
Tri-State at Olivet OT---1
Calvin at Albion-------1

I'm not too surprised Hope won the league.  I figured DVS would step it up from last season and be a good leader at the PG position.  I also knew this would be a great season for Cramer.  Props to GVW for really developing his talent well this season, especially his bench.   Some people simply didn't realize how valuable Draayer and Trewella were for Calvin last season. Although I didn't think they would have 4 losses in the league.  Hopefully Calvin can play to its potential in the miaa tourney.  Good luck everybody!

and thanks for doing the fan poll again, sac!

KnightSlappy

No real huge surprises from the fan poll, I expected Cramer to win but I expected it to be a closer race than that.  Maybe I am not the one to break it down as my 2nd and 3rd place MVPers both were listed on the 2nd team All-MIAA :-[

I'm off to Breslin for UW/MSU so you have untill around 10pm if you want to slide in at the last minute.

So the shot they kept showing this morning was one of the Neitzel 3's that bounced multiple times on every part of the rim before it went through.  That shot looked almost identical to one from about 30ft by Mike Thomas at the buzzer when Albion beat JCU a couple years ago in the NCAA.  Just wondered if anyone else out there remembers that  ;)

As I recall, sac will remember the shot but he didn't see it--even though he was at the game. He thought the shot rimmed out and looked away even as the ball was going through the hoop. Good timing sac! ;) :o

Thanks for your work on the fanpoll sac. Looking at the final overall statistics you provided I am only surprised by two things. The first is Cardenas of Adrian who only finished 5th in the Freshman of the Year vote. Based on the one game I saw him play I thought he was an excellent player and so I checked his league stats. He averaged over 9 points and 22 minutes of play per game. I definately consider him to be one of the top 3 freshmen in the league and considered him for number one.

The other surprise is even more mysterious to me. Who the sam hill gave Cramer a vote for second team? ???

Who didn't think Desmond Young was deserving of being placed on either first or 2nd team?

HopeConvert

I didn't see an MIAA championship for Hope this year, and thought GVW overall did a good job with this team, especially in developing the bench. I think that will pay dividends next year as well.

Not to dust off long-standing debates about what MVP means (best player? most valuable on a winning team? most valuable to his team? most valuable to the league?), and I know Alma would have finished in the exact same place without him that they did with him, but it seems tough to me to ignore a guy who was first in scoring, first in rebounding, 8th in fg%, 2nd in assists, and second in steals. I think Alma may have been asked to leave the league without him - sort of a variation on British soccer. :)

I was right under the basket when he made that shot.  That's still the most amazing finish to a game I've ever seen in person.

KnightSlappy

I had just gotten home from Calvin's whoopin of Mississippi College and caught the end on the internet.  It sounded like many of the JCU students missed the last shot as well.
