Straight from Tom Renner  ie: if Tri-State wins the men's basketball tournament.

Thank you for your inquiry.

By rule, the regular season champion would be the automatic qualifier.

Good to know Coach Harmon wasn't lying to Hoopsville.

The new regional rankings are out.  Here are the Great Lakes rankings:

1  Lake Erie  23-2  19-1
2  Wooster  22-3  17-2
3  John Carroll  17-8  16-6
4  Hope  21-3  14-3
5  Ohio Northern  19-6  14-6
6  Wittenberg  21-4  16-4

Final: Otterbein 52, Ohio Northern 51. Last second shot by OTT's Ousely goes in. The Cards advance to take on Capital for round three Friday night.

A potential big fish in the NCAA's goes down and probably won't make the tournament now.  It will make it harder to drop Hope out of the regional rankings if they should lose.

.......of course with the supersecret poll next week we'll never know where they end up >:(

First, I didn't realize Cramer had been taking the tips. Pretty amazing he is taking and winning tips at 6'3'.
Second, they said its not a full house tonight. I always remember it being tough to get students out to the first round MIAA tourney game.  ???

No way is Cramer 6'3". I've stood next to him, and even accounting for his posture he is no more than 6'1". Got the tip though.

It was a poor student turnout tonight. Place was maybe 2/3 full.

Sac and I actually commented on this earlier. The turnout for tourney games has always been on the small side, I always remember it being difficult to recruit students and having only half of the normal dew crew present. I think part of the problem is everyone expects a rather unexciting blowout like the one we got tonight.
Tribes of primitve hunters, with rhinestone codpieces rampant, should build pyramids of Chevy engines covered in butterscotch syrup to exalt the diastolic, ineffable, scintillated and cacophonous salamander of truth which slimes and distracts from each and every orifice of your holy refrigerator.

Last year's semi-final attendance

Alm @ Hope: 1635
Oli @ Calvin:  876
TSU @ Kzo: 385
Adr @ Alb: 502

Hope lists tonight at 1850, interesting to see how it all compares to last year.

Geerlings, Kelser, and Creek officiating at Calvin tonight

The MIAA must have a sense of humor.  Last year, first round of tournament Geerlings tosses Soderberg.  One year later -- He's Baaack.

Olivet scores 10 pts first half.  Brandon Way with 9.  Olivet shot 3-24.  Out rebounded 28 - 12.

Calvin won big tonight but geez I hate the way we play offense.  We have so many possessions where there are no passes or just one pass and then a shot.  You can get away with that against an Olivet but when you play a decent team you are going to pay.

My observations from the game:

1) It may not have been the best dunk ever, it may not have been the best DIII dunk ever - it wasn't even Cramer's best dunk ever - but that was pretty sweet. DVS behind the back pass to Cramer on the wing for the two-hander.

2) The first unit started off sluggishly, with MVH in particular really struggling with his shot. The second unit came in and really blew the game open. The first unit looked much sharper later in the game. Nice night for Jager, Partridge and Wolfe. I like the defensive energy of that second unit. In my estimation they are much tougher defensively than the first unit. DVS was waving at a lot of people again tonight.

3) MVH seemed to have twisted his ankle on a twisting layup in the second half. I'm surprised they didn't ice it, and he was pretty gimpy leaving the floor after the conclusion of the game. Something to watch out for.

4) I'd like to retract my vote for league MVP. :)

5) Kudos to the seniors for fine careers and being classy players on and off the court.

6) No real conclusions you can draw from tonight. Alma's just not very good.

It's better than watching the University of Michigan play on offense, now that is awful.

Not much to say about the game tonight - a pretty boring game, but the Dutchmen took care of business.  The dunk was nice, but it was the two passes leading up to it that impressed me.  MVH made a nice pass to DVS, who, with a defender in his face, made a behind the back pass to Cramer for the jam.

(My sources tell me it will be on youtube tomorrow morning)

Looking forward to Friday, and both games.

Reimink requested the video of the pass be put on YouTube, as he didn't see it.

I think Jesse may work on that eyes-in-the-back-of-the-head thing between now and Friday.
