Bottom line for Calvin vs TSU

If Tony Benford shows up in the gym wearing the same wrist brace I saw last week..........Calvin wins.

TB is 5-23 in his last 2 games and has scored 7 and 8 points after averaging over 20 points in MIAA play.

We all know the MIAA is down this year, why wouldn't the pickers be down, too?

that was good! :D

No, that was very good. + k for northb.

An Adrian/TSU final would really screw with our picks.

I just posted in the pick 'em page the standings after the first round.  The thing that amazed me is that we had 20 pickers, and only 4 of them picked Adrian to win.   :-[    You would think the predominant choice would be to choose the top 4 teams, but the pickers were certainly showing no love for the Bulldogs.

It seemed like many people picked against the Bulldogs all year.  They started winning, but many picked against them.  I think many just thought that Albion would get to them eventually.

Not much to say or add about 3 of last night's games.  FDF had it right at boring.  :D   Now the Adrian/Albion affair (which most of us predicted would be the game of the night) left little to be desired.  A great Albion rally followed by a killer Adrian basket, and for frosting on the cake a controversial call on a late shot.  Having been on both sides of that call it is a heart breaker. :)
Now on to Friday night, and the "real games".  Still think Calvin, and Hope are the decided favorites.  If Tri state gets hot they will force calvin to work hard, but as long as Calvin doesn't fold offensively  (early) they can go point for point against the the Thunder.  Hope should handle Adrian with little difficulty.

Don't have to go back too far to remember that one!
2004
First Round
Albion 94, Alma 52
Calvin 94, Kalamazoo 64
Adrian 88, Olivet 67
Semi-Finals (at Hope)
Calvin 74, Albion 61
Adrian 86, Hope 82
Championship (at Hope)
Calvin 93, Adrian 67

Apparently you have not watched many Adrian/Hope MIAA tournament games in the past.

An Adrian/Calvin conference tourney final played in Holland? That's never happened before has it? ;) :-X

Why must we dwell on such awful memories of the 2004 tourney. Flew in from DC for those games and then Hope lost on Friday night. Ruined my whole week. >:(

Does our poll creator know something the rest of us don't about potential protests to tonight's results which might allow Alma, Olivet, Kzoo, or Albion to return as MIAA tourney contenders?

I would probably be most useful dishing assists out on the D3Hoops all-star team, though I can body in the paint as well.

I'm in -I'll be the defensive charge taking specialist - I can stand still for long periods of time, and eventually someone will run into me

I can vouch for that! ;)

Hey northb!  I've got bad news for you!   :D

The president of Hudsonville ice cream is a friend of ours.  When we told him that you had a bowl of ice cream as your sig pic, he said we should get in touch with you and he'd set you up with free ice cream.  Now it looks as if you'll have to ask KVS for handouts instead!   ;D

At the risk of stirring the pot, I'd like to recommend that we return the ww_d to Jesus, a far better role model than KVS (or CM or any other human) can be. 8)

Speaking of bad tournament memories,

Anyone remember a Freshman by the name of Eric Viney?  :-*

1999
Semi-Finals (at Calvin)
Albion 62, Hope 60
Defiance 75, Calvin 72

Championship (at Calvin)
Defiance 75, Albion 72 (ot)

The only MIAA Championship game that didn't involve Hope or Calvin, how many here can honestly say they were in attendance for that game? ;)

Oh, I understand your pain. My sophomore year at Hope the MIAA championship game was played at Albion on a Saturday night. Just the week before one of my good friends comes up to me and another male friend and she asks one of us to go to her Volleyball formal dance with her the night of the championship. Before a hummingbird could have flapped its wings once my friend said "NO." And so I was stuck missing the championship game (and GVW's 500th victory) to attend some silly volleyball dance because I was being the good friend. I went to Albion the night before to watch an epic battle that I believe had Hope beating Calvin 89-88 in OT. Don Overbeek and Jeremy Veenstra were both seniors that year and just battled the entire game. It was a classic game. The next night my friend returned for the championship game in which Hope came back from a double digit second half deficit to win after Albion's President apologized for his students poor behavior the night before directed at Hope fans leaving the game (I have had a particular disdain towards Albion since that night.) I kept going to the car at the dance to check the score but it wasn't the same. :'(

You've had some tough MIAA tournament weeks.  The Calvin posters would probably be willing to take up a collection to fly you in for this weekend.  We like the kind of luck you bring the Dutchmen.  ;)

Haha, well the third time is always a charm :)

Eric Viney? Who is that? Defiance? Never heard of 'em. None of that ever happened; and if it did that was a century ago anyway so who cares? >:( :( :'(

Calvin fans surely know about the third time this year. The potential question for late Friday night is: if third time is the charm, what's the fourth time?

Zak Silas' Albion career came to a close last night.  Zak's improvement between his Fr and So years was a large part of that very good Albion team in 2005 and again in 06.  Paired with Thomas, Crawford and DePree he made them deadly and was always considered a solid defender.

Considering he picked up the toughest defensive assignments every night, he still had pretty solid offensive numbers.  I'm pretty sure he played Hope's Steve Cramer 1 on 1 for 3 of the 4 years and frankly probably got the best of Cramer more than half the time.

993 points, 242 rbs, 137 treys and a career 84% FT shooter.

in 05 Zak was probably option #4 in the offense, moved up to #2 last year and this year took the most shots but in the 3 games I saw Albion he still didn't seem like option #1.

I've always felt he was a bit underappreciated around the league, partly because the first 3 years in the MIAA we had such a big boat load of good players.  It will definately seem a little weird to not see Silas in the Albion lineup next season.
