Our newly crowned Freshman of the Year must have had a night on the town after sac handed him the trophy on his way back from the Breslin (sac; where did you take Andy last night?) because he had a tough game and was clearly outplayed by both of Calvin's freshmen. He scored 7 meaningless points--all of them in the last 5 minutes of the game. Can I retract my vote for Freshman of the Year? ;) In his defense I will say that Andy was in foul trouble all night which limited his playing time. Sierminski will be a good player in this league--he's mobile, strong and has a sweet stroke from beyond the arc. It just wasn't his night.

I didn't vote for the MIAA awards and I'd never seen Sierminski play because I hadn't been to an Olivet game, so I was looking forward to watching him last night.    After the game, John said he is an excellent player who just had an off night.  These young guys have three more years, but I feel for these seniors who have played their last game (or may soon).

yeah, you shouldn't lose karma for that.

Updates just tend to muddy up the board, legitimate conversation is different even if you get tired of it.

Its been "deceased equined" so there shouldn't be much more.  Just part of the annual bash the NCAA D3 tournament selection process........lots of good ammo for us this year. :)

And I don't see it improving in the near future. An observation, though, based on my reading of some of the other boards (and I don't read them all, by any means): the fans on this board tend to be exceptionally well-informed, with the result that the actions of the NCAA will make even less sense to them. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. But on this board, most posters have two good eyes.
One Mississippi, Two Mississippi...

Wow.  A touchy subject.  I hope when I wake up I have at least one karma left.

Yeah, I respect those Hope seniors too.  It will be sad to see them end their careers.

HAHA, you are just asking for it! (Note, I did not touch your karma at all so if it does fall it wasn't me). Although if you look at Sac's QoWI point Hope may actually want to lose tomorrow night ??? :( ;D of course this makes no sense but that is the NCAA.

To all posters involved, sorry to change the subject in the middle of such interesting comments about the many "expired equine" issues and other touchy subjects pending.  I have limited opportunity to catch up, and every night I'm already umpteen pages behind.  But keep up all the good posting.  Reading it all really makes my day.

Meanwhile . . .

We all know the MIAA is down this year, why wouldn't the pickers be down, too?

that was good! :D

No, that was very good. + k for northb.

Gentlemen, I too was amused by northb's comment.  He is to be commended for his sense of humor.  It's been well covered on this board that the MIAA is down this year, and based on FDF's preliminary report on the MIAA Tourney Pick'Em contest, the GPA is gonna be downright ugly.  At the same time, however, northb's punchline piqued my curiosity, so I dug deep into RR's archives of Pick'Em Trivia, and came up with this.

GPA (Group Pick Average) for the MIAA Season:
2006:  70.7%
2007:  79.1%   :o

GPA for the MIAA Tourney:
2006:  84.1%
2007:  TBD, but it will be ugly.   :P

And now back to your regularly scheduled issues . . . .

In Pool C news tonight--Calvin related :P

UW LaCrosse beat UW Oshkosh, damaging Oskosh's chances at a C and now putting Lax in a position to grab one of the last C's.

I think Oshkosh is a lead-pipe cinch for a C-bid.  I also think La Crosse clinched one tonight if they need it.  That'll make three teams coming out of the WIAC (one A, two C's), all of them well-deserved.

"Can't remember who posted about Calvin not moving the ball much, but I thought they did a good job moving the ball last night.  A lot of nice assists and good movement.  Maybe I've missed too many games, but I thought it was one of their best nights in that regard."...ChelseaMom

I agree with your observations.  Calvin played excellent defense and moved the ball well on offense.  Probably the best they have done all year.  Saw Veldhouse cutting through the defense to find a pick and get a pass for a jumpshot several times, ala Neitzel.  And, a real smooth move by none other than Mantel, when he got the ball at the top of the key took a couple steps toward the basket to draw the double-team and give a nice assist to the waiting Meckes underneath.  Then some beautiful passing to find the open man, like the time the ball moved from man to man about eight times to end up with a wide open Dustin Smith nailing a very smooth three.  A cutting Snoeyink underneath.  The list goes on.

Quite  a scoop I've got here...........in an attempt to poke fun at Hope's issues with in-region games with Carthage.  The Calvin student senate today unanimously voted to model the new Calvin Knights Mascot after Carthage.

Okay Sac, help my flagging memory here.  Didn't Hope join the Wheaton/Carthage/that other team tournament precisely in order to get an in-region game?  Wasn't GVW then getting lots of flak for not playing more in-region games pre-season (and thus hurting Pool C hopes)?  And now we're all panicking because it is in-region?  Or is tournament week messing with my mind?  (Be careful how you answer that!)   :D

CM, CM stop bringing up history to fight our strict dedication to the team and any scenario that would help our pool C hopes, should that be necessary :). HAHA

I do know that I am one person that criticized Hope's past scheduling practices and the CCIW/MIAA challenge has been a step in the right direction for Hope. I do hope that GVW will continue along this path and try to get some higher quality teams to the Russ DeVette or Holland Sentinel Tourneys. I realize that may be hard to do because teams may not want to come to DeVos. I also think Hope should consider not hosting one of those tournaments in the future and traveling somewhere else like Calvin did to Denver or Wooster (I think it was Woo this December but somewhere in Ohio where they met a WIAC and NCAC team). Or engaging in a home/away practice. Get Woo or Witt or a top WIAC team to come to the Russ DeVette one year in return for going to that school's tourney the next year. These may be dreams but well I am an optimist tonight!

We're all optimists tonight -- it's Thursday!   ;D   (Tomorrow night, some of us will have to face ugly reality.  Ever since the QoWI discussion however, I'm not sure whom I'd like to see facing such reality- LOL!)
