Just my opinion, but sometimes I think the comments made by Hope fans about KVS is just a projection of the frustrations they have with GVW.  And what appears the inability to have his teams win the final game of the season.

Hardly  ::)

I suppose.  But until the last one is won, I'll keep my opinion.  ;)

Might be awhile ;)

Just for the record, the GVW-KVS match-up, since KVS's inaugural season in 1996-7, is now 17 - 13 in favor of GVW.  Anyone know of how many MIAA Championships each team won since that season?  Also, Glenn's coaching career shows a record of 588 - 198, all at Hope, for a percentage of 75% (can I round up?).  Don't have the stats on KVS.

Nevertheless, both superb coaches!

Just to be completely clear.  I was talking about Hope winning the last game.

Questions for those better informed than I am on all things QoWI.  Maybe this has already been covered and I haven't seen it.

What was the impact of Calvin's win last night on the QoWI for both teams?
Did it help both?  Either one?  Neither one?

How would their QoWI's have been different had Hope won?

Thanks in advance for any explanations.

Calvin's QOWI rose, since they got a 15-point win, but as the AQ their QOWI is irrelevant (which is fortunate, since they had zero chance of getting a C).  Ironically, Hope's QOWI would have dropped with a win (though it would then be irrelevant), since it would have dropped Calvin below .667 and cost Hope 2 points for each previous game.  But Hope's QOWI rose with the loss since they get 6 points for the loss, PLUS (effectively) 2 points each for the previous games since Calvin stayed above .667.

Screwy, no?

Quote from GR Press today:  "I'm really, really proud of the guys," Hope coach Glenn Van Wieren said, dabbing away tears.  "Calvin just scored a great basket at the end.  Holy mackerel."

Did anyone else catch GVW's post game clips on local TV after the last two games?  I know he is an emotional guy, but man, he has looked like he was just one Griffin/Veldhouse/Hennink 3-pointer away from total meltdown.   A little worried for the guy. . .

I voted for GVW for coach of the year in our recent poll.  Why?  Because he took a very talented team to a 23-4 record, a conference championship, and making it to the tournament finals.  By voting for GVW I don't think I was voting against KVS or any of the other coaches.  Saying GVW did a good job coaching Hope IMHO in no way reflects how I think KVS or any other coach performed.  :)
Yesterday I said I thought the M's (Marcus Vh, Meckes, and Mantel) would be critical to the outcome of the game.  Several posters have commented on Josh's attitude before and after the game.  It was great to see his desire to leave it all on the floor.  I thought Mantel might just have a break out game, but don't know what more should have been expected of him than what he delivered.  When I wrote the post yesterday I did not realize the injury issue with Marcus.  He is a great player, has repeatedly caused problems for Calvin, and worked to get an open shot to win a game.
I had Griffen as a first team guy on my ballot.  What better way to indicate what a contribution he made to the team.  Yes, we are all thankful he was there this year.  He is not the first transfer that has come in to play right away for Calvin.   I did not list him as MVP candidate because I don't think his play merited that consideration.
I did list Cramer 1st for MVP.  Why?  Because his play over the entire year, from what I was able to learn, was the best of any player in the MIAA.  He is a class young man, and would have loved to have had him on my team.

Wanted my friends on the board to know I  checked the live scoreboard last night and ordered a victory margarita down here on the island of  Cozumel.
What a knightcap! ;D

We're envious, although I'm not sure Conzumel would be preferable to last night's game. Preferable to today, however. Snowing again. :P :P :P

My take is that we are all on this board because we love d3 basketball, are emotionally involved, and want to converse with persons who share that passion. Surely there will be disagreements, and on occasions hurt feelings, but that shouldn't deter anyone from posting. The ribbing and disagreeing are all part of it. My suggestion would be that people hold off smiting for only egregious violations of comity (to date, I have only smited once, and discerning posters should have little difficulty figuring out which post prompted it). I confess to some serious headscratching on some of the smites I've received, but in the end it's just not that big a deal. The purpose of the smite, I would think, would be to deter posters from going beyond the pale in the way they treat other posters, or if they have completely abandoned the rule of reason. So far, the people that I have met in person, as well as those with whom I have messaged, seem to me to be really good decent individuals, and we should all keep that in mind.

A couple notes on other important games.

Centre has jumped to an early 18-10 lead over Trinity, which is good for Hope.

John Hopkins is in a close game just before half.

Mississippi College is up one at the half.

I would encourage everyone to go to the front d3hoops.com page and click on the link to the video feed for the ASC championship game, Mississippi College v. Hampden Sydney. Its a large picture and the quality is superb!!! I mean I wish the MIAA could do something like this. It is half time now though so I hope the quality is maintained once the second half starts.

EDIT: The quality is not as great when the camera is moving across court fast but this is still one of the best internet video feeds I have ever seen for a D3 game.

DC:  That is very nice.  Much better than the women's championship video last spring.  I expect we will see video in the MIAA in a couple years.
My only question about the ASC game is "where are the fans "?  No 3599 there.

I am still sitting here smiling today because to think Calvin could go into DeVos and win 2 games in 2 and a half weeks makes me happy.  In those 2 games Hope probably had the lead for 2 minutes or less total.  Last nights game took some of the sting off this season for Calvin.  I'm not going to say Calvin is a great team but the last 2 games at DeVos they were better than Hope.

Good news for Hope as John Hopkins won the Centential Conference tourney and saved a potential pool c bid. Mississippi College is also leading with 4 minutes left and Centre is winning at the half.

EDIT: Mississippi College is going to hold on to its lead to win down in the ASC title game and will preserve yet another pool C bid. Thank goodness some of today's favorites were able to come through and win.

EDIT 2: Centre has jumped to a 16 point lead with about 7 minutes left and the last three title games of the day that could affect the Pool C bids appear as if they will all end in Hope's favor.
