Here is HOP-ing the MIAA has two teams representing the league, and that they avoid each other until as late as possible.

IF Hope makes the tournament..........

I would be shocked, if Hope and Calvin were in any bracket that did not include a potential fifth meeting next Saturday, even more shocked if either got to host.

It would be great but not likely...............just looking around a Chicago, Aurora, Hope, Calvin regional seems pretty appealing, played at either Chicago or Aurora.

......the best chance for them to be apart is if one gets shipped to Ohio, the other West.  Its pretty hard to come up with pairings in Ohio that make sense with both  Hope and Calvin in the building so maybe there is a better chance of being separated than I think.

Last year the tournament committee was willing to bring UW-LaCrosse all the way over into this region with Wisc-Lutheran.  So there could be pairings and sites that don't make much sense or are hard to see at the moment.

The real drama may be on the women's side, you can make compelling arguments for either Hope or Calvin to host........both have similar resume's I believe (to be honest haven't looked hard).   My understanding of how all this works is in an odd year the women have priority when it comes to hosting if a school has 2 eligible teams.   (This is partly why Hope's men played at home and not the ladies last year)

Mr. Ypsi

Just off my memory banks (not always terribly reliable), I believe the NCAA has a rule against conference mates meeting in the first game, and think it extends to the second.  You may be safe from Calvin-Hope V until the sectional (as long as you both get there, of course!)

Hope and Calvin met in the second round last year so they would only be safe from meeting in the first round.

I believe there's just a written guideline that says something along the lines of............every attempt will be made to keep conference opponents separated through the 1st round.  Something like that.

I'm actually starting to be more convinced one will go West the other to Ohio for rounds 1 and 2.  The qualifiers geography seems to support a move like that better than I thought.

I agree with sac on this, assuming Hope gets in I think there is a strong chance that one team goes to Illinois, probably Aurora or Chicago, and the other team gets sent to Ohio. We'll see though. One hour, 7 minutes to wait still! (Or whenever the NCAA is moved to tell us anything).

At this point it seems like a pretty safe bet that Hope is in.  Pat has the Midwest with 2 byes, and that strikes me as a low probability scenario.  I just have a feeling that Calvin with low #'s is a good sacrifical offering in the midwest.

Calvin headed off to Aurora and Wheaton a couple of years ago, and returned to play sectionals at Albion, before heading off to Salem.

I am not making any bold predictions but if a team such as Aurora treats Calvin like a sacrificial offering they can knock off a few teams.  This Calvin team, as inconsistant as they may be, is not a team to be taken lightly.

Calvin never is.  But any team would be insane to take any other team that made it to the tournament lightly.

I am not sure if anyone is listening to Hoopsville right now but they just went through a long discussion comparing Hope to Elmhurst and the general consensus was that although Hope would be in and Elmhurst likely out everyone felt Elmhurst deserved a bid more. There was some definite criticism of Hope's non-conference schedule and the fact they play so many teams that don't count in the regional rankings. Sound familiar????
