gk68:  Definitely protect the ball.  Also agree push it inside at every opportunity.  Force Aurora to play defense.  Go after them inside

That's exactly what Calvin did two years ago and you could tell Aurora hated playing that kind of ball.

I find it amazing that instead of either Calvin or Hope staying in the GL Region and moving one away, they put them both at the same site.  If they had kept one in the GL, there could be a potential Calvin vs. Hope championship game. ;)

The committee knew what they were doing. Aurora's concession stand fell a little short on projected revenue this year and asked the NCAA for some help. A pair of games featurning Calvin and Hope will certainly go a long ways towards making up any shortfall of funds--and if both advance to Saturday's final they'll really have hit the jackpot. ;)

I was told Calvin is getting 280 tickets.  >:( :( ??? :'(

Here's hoping your sources are wrong.  If not, the 280 better be after parents, coaches families, etc.  If not, there will be about 8 seats for sale

Here's a response from Brian Kipley, the SID at Aurora:

"Each school has been allotted for pre sales, so you can contact your school about those sales.  General admission tickets will go on sale at 4:30 p.m. for Friday's contests.  The gym will not be cleared at this time between games and each school has an allottment of tickets for the contests."

mistake :-X

I guess I can post my 2nd annual gripe about the 1st and 2nd round formats now.  How much money is the NCAA throwing away by not having Hope or Chicago host its game on one of those campus'.........or any of the other neutral floor matchups this Friday.  Its such a great experience for the host school, I really cannot believe they deny so many D3 institutions this experience now.

Aurora's spring break begins this weekend.  ;D

Good news for those wanting tickets.

I just realized I will be on a plane to Germany during the first round games:( and so I won't even know a Hope-Calvin V occurred until the game is already over! Although I will miss the weekend I think this is the best thing for my psyche that and visiting the Hofbrauhaus.

Don't they have the internet over there?

Of course they do and of course I will go out of my way to check the scores but I think I may be safe and just wait til Sunday to check once the first two rounds are over. I think I'll go less crazy that way. ??? :P

More importantly, you'll prepare better for the Sabbath if you don't know what happened until after services are over. ;)

That is particularly true in this scenario. Chicago could easily host Friday night and the winner of that game would have no trouble traveling to Aurora for the second round. Its a 45 minute drive on a Saturday!! The one difficulty would be if both Hope and Calvin win and then someone has to host that in the Chicagoland area. However, you just pre-determine who that would be, Aurora this year, and they deal with it! Silly NCAA!!!!

I've parsed the Clintonian phrase "[t]he gym will not be cleared at this time" (emphasis added). I take this to mean Aurora reserves the right to change its mind depending on ticket sales and interest. Chicago area alums probably can go to Aurora to get their own tickets and if many do that the school might then make the decision to split the sessions.

I am wondering if anyone has looked at the Massey rankings. I just checked out the page and see that Chicago is #6 and Hope #26 but I have no idea how to use the Massey rankings to calculate the "projected" outcome of the game on a neutral floor. Can anyone check it out and post that to the board for both the Calvin and Hope games? Or tell me how to do the math so I can do it?

thanks

Massey Saith:

Hope 75 Chicago 75
Calvin 77 Aurora 87

The latest Massey ratings don't reflect last week's games; new ratings may come out tomorrow or Wednesday.

My theory (h___?) is that Calvin is playing better than the Massey ratings would indicate lately.

That prediction accounts for a home court advantage for Aurora, which they didn't really have last time around but may this time. Unless we can get the Hope and Calvin fans to cheer for Calvin and Hope! That may actually be a possibility based on the weather they've been having in southeast Michigan lately:

Thats true, I believe they do usually take a wait and see attitude, if I remember it took a couple days for even the MIAA to decide to clear Kresge with Hope and Calvin both there, and for the NCAA games.

Thanks for that info. I guess we can expect real close games this weekend. I do think Calvin is playing better than Massey probably takes into account and that Chicago Hope contest, wow! A tie! Maybe we'll see OT. Too bad I'll be on a plane >:(

I hope you are right - although once they start selling tickets, it's too late to do that, as they would have to have different tickets for the different sessions or you would have chaos.
