The home team gets half the gym. If the students are indeed on break as I have read elsewhere, I bet Aurora does not sell out its allotment.

According to what I heard from the Hope SID this morning, the home team gets 2/3 and the rest is split amoung the other 3 teams.  So Hope, Calvin, and Chicago are each geting 285 tickets.

If Thornton Gymnasium holds 2200 (and from my memory of the gym that's about right), and if Calvin, Chicago and Hope split 1/3 of the seating, then each school should only be getting 244.44 tickets each, not 285.

That being the case, let's all count our blessings that each of our schools are getting more than what we'd be allotted if AU were doling them out strictly by the rules.  Instead of getting worked up over how many tix are available, let's focus on how to get them.  I still haven't read anything definitive about when or where to purchase them locally.

According to our contact at Hope (who put together a bus/lodging package for Hope fans last year), there is no Hope bus going this weekend...as of yet.  If a bus is to be chartered, it won't be done by him, since he will be out of town.  Any Hope fans out there feel like looking into this?  I'm sure response would be great if it's made known to more than just us posters.

Just heard something more re: tix for Friday.  170 will be available, going on sale Wednesday (tomorrow) at noon.  Students may buy 1, faculty/staff may buy 2, and season ticket holders may buy as many as the number of season tickets they held this past season.  That's alot less than the number most recently bounced around here, so for those who want to go to the games with tickets in hand, clear the middle of your day tomorrow.

The above is correct, according to www.hope.edu/ticketoffice  I assume that the number was reduced from 285 for the players' families, administration, etc.

I can't believe this.

Check out this nice article from SI.com about the NESCAC championship game on Sunday. (Williams v. Amherst)
Its a nice write up on a DIII game and gives a shout out and link to d3hoops.com

Hmmm, it seems that page 650 loads normally. Its just some odd problem with page 649, although the post a reply page still isn't working right.

I wonder what happens when we get to page 666? ??? :o

It's the fault of the long link from a poster. I've correctly formated the link and the problem went away. :)

But not without me going blind first.  :o :D

Quote from: HopeConvert on February 26, 2007, 11:20:11 AMI was looking at U of C's schedule. Even though they have more Nobel Prize winners than Hope, I think Hope actually played a tougher basketball schedule.

I completely disagree. The UAA is very tough, probably one of the toughest four or five leagues in the country right now. The MIAA, by everyone's admission in this room, was markedly down this year.

Chicago played two games apiece against #8 Washington, #24 NYU, #27 Brandeis, and #29 Rochester, and one game apiece against #30 DePauw and #34 Wheaton. They also played a lot of solid mid-level teams such as Lake Forest, Trinity (TX), and Coe. Aside from the four games against Calvin -- and lots of people here have conceded that the Knights were not the world-beaters that they should've been for large stretches of this season -- and the two CCIW/MIAA Challenge games, plus a pair of contests against decent local NAIAs, I see a whole lot of dross on the Hope sked.
After reading your comments I'll happily concede the point. My opinion was uninformed. Thanks for the correction.

Don't back down so quickly HC. You're right, U of C does have more Nobel prize winners than Hope. :o

Quoting Marx yet. You are indeed a mystery wrapped in a riddle surrounded by an enigma. Sort of like Hope's two home games against Calvin. :P :'(

Yes, but Hope still holds a 3-1 advantage against Chicago in bball games - which may somehow be more relevant at this point.

Unless one of those Nobel Prize winners invents "flubber" prior to the game and puts on the Maroons' shoes.

I went to Hope's last trip to Chicago U, 2003 I think........I know Overbeek was on that team.  I loved their old gymnasium, the first thing you saw when you walked in the door was a display case of the Heisman Trophy.  What made Chicago unique to me from other D3 locals was of course the multiple Big Ten Championship banners hanging from the rafters. 8)

Chicago has since built a new gymnasium.

Chicago has the largest endowment of any DIII school at $4.867 billion.  They ought to have a nice gym.

For a conference tournament, the Hopkins and Haverford matchup featuring two schools with endowments at $2.35 billion and $453 million probably set a DIII record (competing with Williams and Amherst at $1.462 billion and $1.337 billion respectively).

I remember that game as well - might have been the last time they played each other.  It was a great matchup between Overbeek and Derek Reich - two of the better centers I've ever seen in DIII (and both All-Americans).  Sac - you were close on the date, it was December of 02 (so I guess technically the 02-03 season).  Hope won 84-66 - a freshman came of the bench for Hope in that game and scored 11 points in 12 minutes - Andy Phillips
