Purdue and UM were just in the 10,000s.

It's really hard to watch something that painful. I know most people don't make it to the dentist every 6 months either...

Speaking as someone who's been to the dentist 3 times in 2 weeks and saw Michigan once..............the dentist was a much more enjoyable and painless experience.  ;D :D

[Sadly Calvin has a group of fans that are either students or adults that decide to only go to Hope/Calvin games and sometimes jump on their bandwagon come tourney time.   I think we Calvin fans in this board should think of a non-offensive made-up name for those type of people.  Any ideas?

More useless attendance information.

Hope had a higher average attendance than all but 3 D2 teams.

Hope outdrew 165 out of 326 D1 programs!!!! I think that is an absolutely astonishing statistic. As I read through last year's attendance as published by the NCAA I was just shocked by how poor D1 attendance is. Except for a few of the power teams very few teams even draw over 10,000 per game. In the Big Ten both Penn St and Northwestern (whose gym only seats about 8,000) averaged in the 5,000-6,000 range and Purdue and UM were just in the 10,000s.

St. Francis (NY) only averaged 341 fans per game, which is the approximate size of the Dew Crew or the nice old ladies with white hair at DeVos.

FYI - here's what I posted last summer when the 2006 attendance numbers came out:

The official NCAA attendance stats are out, and Hope lead the nation in attendance for the fourth year in a row, with an average home attendance of 2928 (up from 2462 a year ago - gotta love the DeVos).  IWU was second with 2470 and Calvin third with 2089.  Hope's average would have ranked them 4th in DII, and 169th in DI (meaning they out-drew 165 DI teams).

The MIAA once again lead the nation (for the 15th consecutive year) as a conference in DIII, with an average of 1234.  The CCIW was second at 866.  Pretty amazing that the MIAA has a nearly 400 per game attendance lead over the next place conference!!

Another amazing thing is that the Hope women averaged 1329, which would have placed them (versus the men) in 8th place in DIII,  and higher than 56 DI mens teams.  Given their awesome year and the national championship (and the DeVos), it will be interesting to see if that number goes up next year.

Nice!

Hey, FDF, if the entire D3sports board ever permanently shuts down, how about a bunch of us getting together (you, Mr. Ypsi, sac, diehardfan, Ralph Turner, and any other clean-humored veteran poster) and taking our comedy on the road. Give me a drum and some sticks and I'd provide all the rim-shots. :P :) ;) :D

+ Karma to FDF:  That is exactly what I said once when being informed my seat had been "given" to a "friend of the college'.  Sort of like someone who only comes to church on Christmas eve. and Easter having the nerve to take your pew. ;D

All this talk about Hope's great attendance is making it very hard for me to rein in the smiteworthy comments.  "Having spent a year in Holland one day" I guess a Hope bball game would be pretty exciting for most of the natives. :) ;) :D :-\ :P ::)

Calvin is already selling their tickets? I wonder if as an alumnus of Calvin I can buy one through them. :-\ ;) ;) :)
One Mississippi, Two Mississippi...

I was just catching up on the men's side of the board and noted that Hope's allotment of tickets for the weekend is very limited.

May I suggest that Hope fans that can not get tickets to Aurora consider making the journey down to Greencastle to watch the Dutch play.

The venue is larger and the likely Saturday opponent will be the host - DePauw.  Those of you that attended last years game will remember that the local crowd is loud and hostile.

I am sure the women will appreciate your support.

All this talk about ticket allotments etc. only reminds me how poorly the NCAA treats it's member schools.  They talk about arranging games etc. in proximity to schools, keeping travel costs etc. in check on the one hand.  On the other hand they totally miss the opportunity to maximize revenue.  If anyone of us "owned" the Aurora fieldhouse we would have two sessions so fast it would make heads spin.  Does the NCAA realize how stupid they are for not capturing the opportunity to make a few bucks so they can spend a few bucks?  Don't cry poor in one instance, and make a totally stupid management decision that mimimizes revenues in the next.  The conclusion I come to is they (NCAA higher ups) are incompetent, and just don't care.  At least the MIAA has had the good sense in the days of the old Civic, and Albion to go with split tickets.

Definitely. As a neutral fan, I get playoff tickets through schools I'm not a part of all the time. Heck, you guys could probably get tickets through Aurora... if you were willing to pick them up. :D

I am still trying to figure out if I can use a free flight I have coming to make it there this weekend. The X factor is whether I can get tickets from all the way over here in Cali, and whether I think I can make it to Aurora in the 1.5 hrs I would have from the time my theoretical plane would land... hmm...

Don't be to fast to pass out the Calvin tickets diehardfan.  If you read the requirements posted on the Calvin site it is a bit restricted.  Last time we faced this situation more folks where in line before sales started than tickets were alloted to Calvin.   :)
As a Calvin fan it is worth the risk to drive to Aurora, and plan to get there about 15 minutes before the first game is over.  Ask one of the departing (losing team's fan)  for their ticket stub.  Has worked for me in the past when we played  the second game. ;)  I don't recommend spending the night in your car so get a room first.
