From another now-Chicagoan, I agree that 294 to 88 is your best option.  Much of the 294 construction has mercifully come to an end, and northbound traffic actually flows fairly well (relatively speaking) in the afternoon (southbound traffic is worse that time of day).  88 has a spot or two that slows when it goes from 4 lanes to 3, but isn't too bad.  AM-780 does traffic on the 8s.

From where I live just NW of Midway, I can make Holland in 2 1/2 hrs, and it took me about 50 minutes to Aurora for tickets on Wednesday - mid day, no traffic.  Direct from Holland to Aurora won't have to mess with the local / surface-level streets I do in getting to a highway, so it really shouldn't be that bad of a trip.

Safe travels, and see you tomorrow!

Yeah, but I've never been able to figure out what language they're using.

I've made it to the I294/ I80 interchange in surprisingly good time.......close to DCHopeNuts 2 1/2 hours.  I'm sure that was on a Sunday though.

I've also taken 45 minutes to go 3 miles through that interchange. ::)

You are hardly the poster boy for moderate driving speeds...   ;) :D ;D ;)

If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is.

I'm not complaining, I love getting where we're going very quickly.  Plus it's fun to see the expressions on the faces of all those parents and fans we "blew by" on the road.   :) :D ;D

Hey, I drive a respectable 75-79 (unless there's good music on)! 8)  Of course, I hear there's no speed limit (and good basketball) in Germany...time for a visit!   ;D

Oh, come on now -- it's just 28 on the Dan Ryan, 32 on the Eisenhower, 54 on the tri-state ... :)

Ugh, I know that feeling. It was my route to and from school. My brother and I used to leave at 5am to miss traffic on the way out to VA, and on the way back we invariably got stuck for hours, and hours.

I believe it took me ~3.5hrs hrs when I went to the Civic Center for the MIAA semis a few years back. Mostly because of traffic. I was also slightly late for the game, which was not fun… but of course you already know that. Since this was my crazy college years I'm 100% sure I was speeding once I hit Michigan and the traffic subsided. I've gotten three speeding tickets in my life, and two of them were on the way to basketball playoff games (IWU at Hanover, IWU, Maryville(TN), Wooster, and John Carroll sectional). Haven't gotten a speeding since college though... Apparently there are some people who never outgrow their college years though. ;)

I do agree that most of the construction on 294 is done... when I was driving from the airport to and from Chicago when I was there in December, I barely recognized it as a road! Count on traffic though.

There will undoubtedly be tickets left (people always panic at these things and don't go, and then there's a bunch of empty seats left... I see it all the time). If you want to go, by all means, go. Between Chicago's low attendance, and Aurora's low attendance, it should totally be possible to get in this game, crazy mobs of Hope and Calvin fans and all.

Too true it makes some sense on the highways when you pass a sign (ie, from point A to point B, 28minutes), but there's no way it makes sense when you're not even on the road, and everyone is at a different point.  ::)

I don't think Tri-State is eligible for the tournament until next year - oops, wrong Tri-State  8)

I know the traffic can be bad, we just need to pray for a good hard snow early in the day - liek when Hope played in Kenosha in December.  Everything in Chicago shut down, and then the roads cleared up and we actaully made it from Holland to Kenosha in 3 hours.

And if you had slammed on the breaks hard and often enough, you may have been able to get there with a trip odometer reading of only 199 miles!!   :o :o :D ::)

WOW...please don't remind me about that drive for the Hope playoff game in Wisconsin...I just remember it felt like DAYS to get up there for the game.
That was the game where Spaman hit the shot at the buzzer...correct? All the wins/losses blend together as the years went/go on.
THAT is still my favorite NCAA memory for the men.
A close second has to be the hard fought loss that year (I think) when Don O. dominated the "stud" from the other team...but spent the entire game in questionable foul trouble.
I think that was 2002. Great team/Great year.

Nah, actually the roads were damp to dry by the time we went through.  They had just panicked everyone sufficeintly so that there weren't many people on the road.  It was sweet!  The toll booth was another issue, however!   ;)

Now that was a drive.  Yuck!  They were Thursday/Saturday games, and we drove back and forth to Wisconsin, IIRC.  The bad one was the drive to and from Carthage on Saturday.  We ran into the Imminks, Overbeeks and gohope at a little diner in Kenosha....ahhh, the memories! :)  (Well, that is if I'm remembering the memories correctly.)

Spaman, a freshman, at the buzzer.  Very sweet. :D  (Guess I can understand Knight fans' fondness for their buzzer beating freshman...) 8)

I just spoke with a friend who lives just off I-80 in Dyer, IN.  He's letting us grab his I-Pass on our way out to Aurora.   8)  With the construction on 294 done and I-Pass in hand it should be smooth-(relatively)-sailing tomorrow afternoon.   :)

(I'm one who is fine with spending an hour off course if it results in avoiding a half hour waaaaaiiiiting :P at toll booths, especially if I get to see a friend in that hour.)

My son in law was able to buy tickets from U of Chicago, but they only say Chicago vs Hope. Can someone please assure me those $7 tickets do indeed include both games?
