That's 2 years in a row an MIAA team's had our number. (How many 3's did Aurora hit?)

3 years, if you count Calvin-Aurora 2 years ago.

Asst. Coach Tim Van Dyke described that they noted that they had a foul to give, so they crashed the boards extra hard, and that allowed them to slow Aurora down on the last play.

NB:  that was good coaching, but would rather Eric had hit the ft's.

DK:  I think WLC was refering to the NAC which is only a couple years old.
Aurora was in the NIIC previously.

Aurora 12 of 27 on 3
Calvin 13 of 26.

As far as Aurora, the above sounds like an avg 3-pt shooting night for that squad. The Knights must have outdone the Spartans inside.

Once he missed the first one I was glad he missed the second. Any shot Aurora was going to take after getting the ball back was probably going to be a 3 anyway so missing the free throw shortens the amount of time they had to score.

How about the freshman Veltema (Calvin Christian/Grandville) making both his free throws?  That's gotta be nerves of steel

Yes, that is correct. Edgewood got in from the LMC 2 years ago the same time Aurora got in from the NIIC. Edgewood lost to Buena Vista of Iowa at that time.

A little known stat about Matt is the fact that last year he led all Michigan high school basketball players (all classes) in free throw shooting hitting 90%. That's impressive especially when you consider that MV shot a lot of free throws. So it's not entirely surprising that he hit them, although its nice to know that he can hit them under serious pressure too.

OK:  In hind site I guess you and NB are probably right.   Guess I was still upset about some of the earlier missed ft's.
WLC:  Was surprised with some of the final stats.  Yes, it does appear that Calvin did very well in shutting down things inside, and limiting the offensive rebounds Aurora got.  Welton did not make his average for the season so Calvin had the defense dialed up just about right.  The  3's almost did us in along with turnovers at the end.

Yup, missing the earlier ones was more critical than the two with 4 seconds left.

Congrats to Calvin on turning their season completely around.  After their loss at Wooster, I would have never predicted they would be in the position they are in now! :o

Of course, I would have also never predicted that Calvin vs. Hope V would be taking place in Aurora, IL for that matter! ;D
