If they split the first game 50/50 thats 1200 tickets...........Hope won't sell that many for a sectional 6 1/2 hours away.

We had about 400 down at Wittenberg in 96, after Hope won Friday another couple hundred came down for the Saturday elite 8 game.

Last year I'm guessing Hope was close to the 400 number but slightly less.

Wittenberg and Stevens Point are almost identical in travel time and distance from Holland.

I'll bet there will be plenty of seats for any SP fans to watch both games.

Guess not, but if you were there you could've copied the link and pasted it here.

News from the game:

2. The second half was about as ugly and unentertaining a half of basketball as you could experience. The only thing that salvaged it for me was the delightful company around me. The play was physical, sloppy, often out of control, and with neither team able to make anything as simple as a layup (Reimink, for example, whiffing after receiving a beautiful feed). Cramer at one point looked as if he had about had it with the pushing (highlight of the game: at the end of the first half, K-zoo has the ball, and the Dew Crew counts down 3 seconds ahead of the actual clock; Cramer steals the ball with about four seconds left, but believes there is only one second left and so heaves a 3/4 shot that misses everything, and goes out of bounds with 2.4 seconds remaining; he looks at the Dew Crew and says something to them and shakes his head. Priceless). Star of the game: VanSolkema by a margin. He played wonderfully.

Agreed, I'm not too worried, but I would've liked to have bought tickets for both games right away! lol

"Calvin is just plain a really good D3 team, I think their fans are being to cautious about their prospects for the season.  Last year I talked privately that I didn't think Hope would lose more than 3 games, well this year I'll say the same publicly about Calvin.  They won't lose more than 3 games......if they do, it would mean Hope had a great year. ;D"

TICKET POLICY FOR STEVENS POINT SECTIONAL!!!!

Quote from: House on March 05, 2007, 06:11:12 PM
Thanks for the info, but I do understand what a quick count is. I just wondered how the Hope Student Section did it to one of it's own players. I'll try to make my way back to that page...

My bad, guess I misunderstood and didn't mean to insult your intelligence!  :-[ ;D

No problem, and thanks for the info on Stevens Point. If Hope wins Friday, I may make the trip from Minneapolis to see my team on Saturday.
The last time I saw Hope in an NCAA tournament game was 1996 in Ohio. I'm looking forward to a repeat of that great day.

The WIAC board just indicated a split-session for Friday night, which would seem to go along with the earlier posts here indicating that tickets won't be a problem (except, that is, for our St. Louis friend).
And me! :( I have someone getting a ticket for me for the Point game, but that's not longer good for both games. Blah. I don't have any way to get a ticket for the Hope game... is there any way that could someone get me a ticket? I promise to pay you back...  They may be tickets at the door and all, but I am flying 2500 miles for these games... I'd like to be sure that I get to see all three of them!!! :-\

Seating is about the same as the Civic Center, but I bet the floor is 4 feet longer.
Probably not as much duct tape and staples holding the ceiling tiles up either..........or a bomb shelter.  Sound system and scoreboards probably work better also. ;D :D
Hey, I LIKED the Holland Civic Center... the noise in there was absolutely deafening... there's just no experience like that. Plus I felt really safe in the event of a nuclear attack! :D ;)

Yes that part worked out well :)..............I made that after seeing Calvin manhandle Aquinas, the night before Hope manhandled Calvin.  At the time I also forgot Calvin had a trip to Wooster to play 2 of 3 good teams Woo, ONU and Lax.

Wheaton and Carthage ended up better than predicted, but I still thought Calvin could handle them.  But I never envisioned Calvin could lose to Tri-State and Adrian, even at that point without seeing either of those two teams.  Even more so after seeing them.........not even close.

Certainly Hope's 3 wins over Calvin put a nice dent in what otherwise could have been a really good year for the Knights.  I'm just not sure they ever reached their full potential..........some you could blame on youth, but some is just a little mystifying to me.  Maybe it will turn out to be just a small part of a larger learning process for their future.

Reading archives is sort of interesting..........sometimes you just shake your head like......what was I thinking. :D

Mr. Ypsi

Our sac is currently in 4th place (out of 825 entrants) in the d3hoops pickems - way to go!! :D

I check my score with a certain degree of "when does the shoe drop" - I'm currently in the top 10% (tied for 78th), but since I had Augie winning the whole thing I knew I was already dead on Thursday! :-[ :'(

Try a Carroll fan...there are probably more tickets available through them.  Sure, you may have to sit with them, but at least you're there.

GS:  Thanks for the additional information on Welton.  I have to agree that I thought the comment on Welton and DI was one of those things that never should have been said.  Obviously he did not have a great game on Friday.  However, he has had a great career, and is a very capable player.
Having been to some low level D1 games the talent level there isn't that much better than some D3 players imho.

Welton had a difficult game because of Josh Meckes's defense.  Welton was 5-16 Sat. night.  2 years ago 5-14.  Both games Meckes was the primary defender.  Meckes is hard to play against.  He deserves credit for the game he played against Welton.

Meckes played very well against Welton. But I strongly disagree that he was the primary reason for Welton's off-night. Welton, just like Darrick Leonard and Doug Lambert, spent the entire first half of the game fruitlessly driving the lane into a solid wall of Knights; i.e., Meckes had plenty of help when Welton tried to take the ball to the basket off the dribble. All three Spartans demonstrated a lot of bad shot selection. Leonard's offense improved in the second half, because he found his stroke from beyond the arc and he managed to get out and run a bit and pick up some baskets in transition. But Welton and Lambert continued to make the wrong decisions all night. If Welton had simply pulled up for a midrange jumper every once in awhile, or kicked the ball out off his drives, he would've been able to keep the defense much more honest.

Found it, Thanks. Very funny stuff!
It's hard for me to believe that a missed dunk could be funnier then that. Of course I've been blocked by the rim a few times so maybe it's just me.

By the bottom of the rim? At the apex of your leap?

... and after you'd badly mangled your approach with three or four stutter steps that looked like you were trying to hop upon a series of rocks while crossing a stream?

That Holt miscue was the funniest thing I saw all season. I hope the kid has a good sense of humor, because he's going to be the butt of a lot of jokes because of that play.

Interesting that whoever did the write-up of Carroll says they are an uptempo team, and they have three players averaging over 29 minutes per game.  Looking at their two tournament wins,  4 starters played even more minutes:

Drury - 39 vs Auggie, 38 vs St. Thom
Ladwig - 38 vs Auggie, 38 vs St. Thom
Colomy - 37 vs Auggie, 22 vs St. Thom
Ligocki - 27 vs Auggie, 22 vs St. Thom

That's some significant minutes there, and I think Hope's depth would be a big plus for the Dutchmen.

I don't think it will.  They're used to it...they play Grinnell twice a year (usually!) lol.  ;) If anything, it might effect them the second night...and if we're talking about the 2nd night, then the Dutchmen don't have to worry about Carroll!  :-[

Equating Hope and Grinnell - give me a break.  We actually play this thing called defense, at the same intensity (or maybe higher) than our offense.

I hope all the teams at this sectional have the same attitude about Hope that you do  ;)
