What's that old line about good coaches?  He could take his and beat ya and he could take yours and beat ya.

A freebee for all the guards out there that are too short to dunk...

An even better shot than "the best dunk ever"

My favorite part of that YouTube entry is the fact that Scottie2Hottie came into the "comments & responses" column for the clip, pulled rank by identifying himself as the fourth-year student manager/assistant of Lynchburg College, and proceeded to set the record straight for everyone who thought that it was a clip from a high school game.

I would think from the Hope perspective they have to like how the bracket has worked out this year.  Their first 3 opponents are all 2nd place finishers in their respective leagues.

Technically speaking, Chicago wasn't a second-place finisher. The Maroons shared the UAA crown with Wash U. They were, however, a Pool C entry, because the Bears swept the Maroons.

Quote from: RiponRed34 on March 07, 2007, 11:22:47 PMI would like all of Hope nation to explain to me who Hope played this year that was any good.  This is an honest question.  I mean did I read that right that Hope played Calvin 4 Times!!!!! If that's proof of a quality opponent, I agree, but FOUR TIMES!!!

RR34:
To set the record straight, Hope played Calvin 5 times this year.  Game 1 was in a local tournament that has gone on for about 10 years, in which Calvin and Hope had never met before this year.  Due to a variety of reasons many around here agree that it should not continue.  Nevertheless, Hope SPANKED Calvin hard in that one.  The 2nd game was the regular season game at Calvin, and Hope held on to beat Calvin by a few points.  3rd meeting was the regular season game at Hope, which Calvin won in a nailbiter.  4th time was the MIAA tournament champiosnship game, which Calvin won.  5th time was the 2nd round game, which Hope dominated.  So perhaps one of the 5 could have been avoided by better scheduling (i.e., the local tournament), but the other four were expected [I know, MIAA chatters, the 5th game could have been averted (a least for a week or two) by better scheduling by the NCAA, but that is out of the coaches' hands].

Although you may not know the history, you should be cautious about how you consider losses between the two teams in the fiercest rivalry in Div III.  The common expectation on this side of the lake is that records are thrown out when Calvin and Hope meet.

Why is a Ripon fan talking smack about a Carroll game?

I'm just glad someone is willing to pick up the smack talk slack for the Carroll fans.
I was about to create a new user id, like "Carroll_Customer", and do it myself.  ;)

But seriously, there is no way that Carroll's last two wins where a fluke. There tough schedule has them very well prepared for the tournament. I think Hope can win, but they better be prepared for a battle.

I'll probably get a punch in the shoulder for this on Friday........it was passed on to me,  I thought it was funny.

I love the notes in orange and blue,
the tickets in hand, I love that too!
And now my friends I have to say,
I can hardly wait until FRIday.
The wait is taking its toll on me,
I feel weak, I can barely see.
I have a hang nail that really hurts,
I've worn the last of my good, clean skirts.
I guess I'll have to call in sick,
if they read this poem they'd know its no trick!
I shared with my principal last Monday morn
my mental well being is not in top form,
I'll need a sick day I'll need one real quick,
He said, "b-ball fever can make one very sick."
So I,m off on Friday without any trouble,
and my priest said, "GO HOPE!" which makes our luck double!

Please note, I can not be held responsible for poor poetry, I work with 13 year olds all day, it tends to have adverse effect on my brain.

GO HOPE!

Very nice. But first you tolerate Masons, and the next thing you know you're seeing a priest. Our Calvin friends are going to have a field day with this one! ;) :D

wow....sac is right...it is a gift and an honor to have gregg asabi back. I think we could ALL use a "best of" last lines from all his posts over the year.
There may or may not have been a Chuck Norris joke thrown in there over time.
I'm looking forward to another Friday night spent in my fiance apt in philly listening to an internet basketball game 9 states away.
She went to Notre Dame (yuck/blah) so she still doesn't quite understand how/why I can "waste" an entire Friday and HOPEfully Saturday night listening to a Division 12 basketball game over the internet.
Those Irish girls just don't get it....I think she's still a little "angry" about all the justified Brady Quinn haters out there.
ps. come on Millen.....draft Calvin Johnson..... it's the SMART move...and would make for the most entertaining moment of the draft.
GO HOPE and DOTHEDEW!!!

I don't usually post much, because you all usually cover just about everything, but I didn't see mention of last week's GR Press article where Josh Meckes has become the first Calvin men's basketball player to play in four NCAA tournaments.  Considering all the success of Calvin basketball, that was a surprise!  Congrats to Josh and all the players who have been a part of this run!  Also in those four years, Calvin has 3 MIAA tournament crowns, one regular season championship. and a post season record of 18-5.

Has anyone else in the MIAA accomplished the 4 NCAA appearances?

Hey!  And I thought we were friends!  This Notre Dame lovin' Irish Hoosier person completely understands your radio desires...but leave Brady Quinn out of it!   ;)  If ya want, I can talk to her for ya!   :D

Listen for us -- gohope, FDF, myself and a few other stellar individuals will be the ones yelling "Go Blue!"   8)   (The moment of silence following it will probably be Sac pretending he doesn't know us.)

Poor journalism..........geez "Steve Honderd era" comes to mind.  It could have happened several times.  Calvin played in 7 consecutive NCAA tournaments from 89-95.  That means 4 sr classes had a chance to play in 4 tournaments.

As for others..........Hope played in 4 straight from 82 to 85, this is pre- "Sac as a Hope fan" era so I don't know any of the players.

Hope played in 4 straight from 95-98, which included Joel Holstege and Dave Muhlenberg.......... (technically Muhlenberg would count since he shot a FT in the his injured Sr tournament run)

Its a nice accomplishment for Josh, but I have a feeling thats a clubhouse room where the couch and all the nice chairs are already taken.

Miaamomma:  If you check out www.miaa.org you can get a history of NCAA appearances for the various sports.  Yes, it has happened before that teams have made 4 or more straight NCAA tournament appearances.  Hope: 82, 83,84,85: 88,89,90,91,92  and also 95,96,97,98  Perhaps a Hope fan can indicate if any player was there for those 4 years.  Elliot, Gugino come to mind quickly. Holstege.
Calvin:  89,90,91,92,93,94,95  Steve Honderd, and a number of others were on those teams for all 4 years.  Not sure how many of them saw playing time.

That really is tremendous.  Josh Meckes is a class act.

Tim Van Dyke mentioned after the game Saturday night that Kyle Snoeyink had appeared in 5 straight post seasons.  He won 2 junior college world series rings in baseball and then played in 3 NCAA basketball  tournaments.

The last 3 years Josh, Bear and Kyle were part of teams that went a combined 69-24.

Hope's run from 88-92 would have included Eric Elliot and Wade Gugino.....possibly Colly Carlson.

Its a big club.
