Guilford beats Lincoln by 1 point 129-128 in 3 overtimes.  Wow.

Looks like Dave McHugh got the plum d3hoops broadcast assignment of the night while Pat got "stuck" ;) doing the games at St John Fisher. Wonder if our esteemed administrator is peeved about that turn of events?

Looks like Hope vs Wash U

Wash U up 18 with 2 and 32 to go.

Mr. Ypsi

So much for problems getting tickets tomorrow! ;)

Washington U upsets SP 78-66. Good luck to the Dutch tomorrow night.

Good luck to the Dutchmen tomorrow night!

There is a chance that we could have two Great Lakes teams in the Final Four! :)

Like many others, I listened to the Holland radio broadcast. The color commentator certainly is, er, interesting. It sounded to me like the stories of the game were Klein kickstarting the team in the first half, Hope's huge rebounding advantage, and Marcus's big night (16/14). It seems that he came out on a mission.

My son was at both games and gave me his report (I dismiss his bitter complaining about the refs). He thought Hope played some poor defense out of the gate and gave Carroll lots of open looks, which they nailed. Hope dropped the doubling and traps and went to a straight man and that seemed to right the ship. As to the second game, according to him WU played a perfect second half, and in his estimation did Hope a favor in as much as UWSP would have been a tougher match-up. Not saying that Hope will beat WU, but he seems to think they have a better shot against them, despite the outcome of tonight's game.

Elite 8. Who of us would have dared predict this in October?

Instead of a chance at being the giant killer, Hope will again get the chance at killing the giant killer. I like the role, but at some point we'll have to slay our own.

Hopefan will have a real conundrum tomorrow night... Have we played Washington U before?

And there is already one GL team in the women's Final Four (either Calvin or Depauw). 8)

Convert: How is your daughter's quest to become a lawyer? Will you be able to make the game tomorrow, or does her event go through the weekend?

Last year this weekend (until Hope's collapse) I was making plans for Salem... Seems like the team and I are on the same page... One game at a time!

I think most of us became believers after the losses to Wheaton and Carthage through THE GAME at DeVos. Hard not to question what was going on, as our boys lost two on their home court to Calvin. But the last three games have been special. This team is on a mission... Too bad this same fire wasn't in their bellies last year in Witt!

Amen to that. A little fire would have gone a long way last year, particularly if it had been in a 6'8" belly.

My daughter will be prosecuting unwitting souls at the Kent County Courthouse tomorrow. With my wife in ONT, I gotta step up to the parental plate. Come tomorrow evening, I'll be wishing I was in WI, that's for sure. Maybe if I can find a cheap plane ticket for late afternoon...

here are my two cents, I was in the Dew Crew for the first game, and in the audience for the second game.  Hope came out flat, with Carroll shooting really well.  Hope attempted to shoot their way into the game and it just wasn't working.  About midway through the first half, we stopped hoisting the threes and started playing defense.  We showed our potential, going from 10 down to 20 up in a very short time (end of first half, beginning of second half).  MVH was incredible, playing large and boarding like a beast (14 boards).  Hope's rebound advantage ended up at 52-28.  Nathan Drury of Carroll had 8 early point, but became frustrated, shooting 2 airballs.  He ended up with 17, but he was largely a non-factor.  Don't let Cramer's 27 points fool you, Colomy did a great job defending him (the best anyone has done recently).  Cramer padded his stats with late free-throws.  Cramer is averaging 29 points in the NCAA tournament, and is a strong contender for tournament MVP if the Dutchmen can keep it rolling.  We started slow, and turned it on, showing how good we really are.

In the second game, Washington U dominated the final half of the game.  UW Stevens Point was very unimpressive, with no one that could penetrate or get their own shot.  Granted their shooting was off, but they kept forcing a game plan that was not working.  Washington U played amazing, steady, mistake-free basketball for the entire second half.  #12 PG Sean Wallis is a quintessential point guard, and #50 C Tony Ruths brings the goods down low.

How does Hope match up?  I view Washington U as similar to Calvin, fundamentally sound, not flashy.  We know how to play that kind of game, and Washington U won't bring the same Calvin intensity (that we see in Hope-Calvin games).  Washington U deserved the win; they absolutely dominated Stevens Point.  Ruths will be a load to guard down low; Hope will have to double down to stop him.  Washington U is playing great basketball and will not beat themselves.  We will have to take it from them.  I anticipate a score in the 60's, possibly low 70's.  Hope will need to play great defense, something they have been doing of late.  Cramer won't be stopped, he is that good.  If MVH can show up again, Hope will be bound for the Final Four and Salem, Virginia!
