2) With about one minute left in the Calvin game at Aurora, GVW takes him out.  THE MAN walks up to GVW and gives him a smile, the most emotion I saw him exhibit in the entire game.  Cramer leads his team with 26 points, the day after his career high of 32 points vs. Chicago.  Hope fans give him a standing ovation, as the Dew crew chants "USA, USA."

Just out of curiosity, what is the significance of the "USA, USA" chant?

The high school that Stephen went to is Unionvile-Sebewaing Area high school (they're the Patriots and of course their colors are red, white, and blue)

Every year, in DIII basketball, only 15 kids out of over 4000 (I'm guessing at the number) are going to walk off the court with tears of joy rather than sadness. And, to paraphrase Tolstoy, every unhappy player is unhappy in his own way. As are we the fans, I suppose.

FDF: thanks for your review. Good stuff.

The Pointers had Tayshaun Prince and still couldn't win a DIII game? Pathetic.

That's pretty funny!  I've said that about him before too.  Oh yeah, we did manage to win a whole bunch of DIII games, just not the one on Friday!  >:( :'(

Sac,

That was probably me that had said Hope didn't look all that great and nothing special about them.  I'll still admit that now.  Obviously, for those Hope fans that saw Point for the first time could be saying the same thing about the #1 team in the nation! lol.

I saw them beat up on Chicago and they looked pretty good, but someone told me that Chicago wasn't really that good in the first place.  Carroll and Hope were two similar teams that liked to go, go, go...sometimes not knowing where they are going, but getting there in a hurry!  :D  There seemed to be countless times when they just got a rebound and tried to push the ball up as fast as they can, sometimes coughing the ball up and other times launching a shot with 25 seconds still on the clock.  No offense to Hope or Carroll, but I would've wanted to play either of those two teams first because I think we could control the tempo and neither really had a big guy like Ruths to worry about.  We spanked Carroll at the beginning of the year and I'm smart enough to know that had we met them (or Hope) first or had we beaten Washington U, I know it wasn't going to be that easy again.  I was just more comfortable with the idea of playing Hope or Carroll rather than playing the only team with a post threat!  Oh well.

Awwww!!! It means something normal! That's too bad. :( It was funnier when I thought it was just completely absurd... or that Hope is "America's Team" or something like that. :D

Personally, my favorite cheer this weekend was "Go Wheaton!!!".... I totally have no idea who was doing that...  ??? ::) ;D 8) :-X ;)

* And Last, and in tribute to SAC, the following bumper sticker was seen on a car while waiting at a toll booth:  "I'm not speeding, I'm Qualifying!!"
Scott and I left at exactly the same time and until he pulled off at an exit at some point he was actually right behind me.... and I wasn't driving that fast. I think all the tickets must have been for something else besides speeding, but that leaves the question... what for? Hmmm... maybe we should take a poll? ;D :D ;)

How long before we hear from the HOFers at the game???
My predicted order: Greg, DHF, sac on the morrow.
I wasn't in Stevens Point this weekend. Sorry. ;)
I didn't have a computer.... my personal is a desktop and my work laptop hasn't been working for two months.  ::) Sorry to disappoint. I'm usually good for a post... or two, or three, or 1000... and so is Greg, and so is Scott... oh well. Now that I finally have a computer to post with, I'm not sure there's much point... unless someone really cares...

Also great to spend time with so many "old" friends, like sac, gohope, hopefan, diehardfan, goodknight, oldknight, erm schmigget, vera grace, and many more (CM - FPOD).  After a great time this weekend, I'm left with one thought running through my head.....

"Come on Charlie, let's go to Candy Mountain"
While it's most certainly a land of joy, and joyness.... ;D I thought we were all forbidden to ever to speak of all that on the message board. ??? :-X

Thanks for the hospitality, good times and laughs guys. It was fun to meet so many new people and catch up with people I haven't seen in years. I hope to see you all in Grand Rapids for the MIAA-CCIW challenge next year! :)

Hey Hope fans,

Kept forgetting to post this, but I hope all of you that traveled to Point enjoyed your stay, got a good bite to eat at the many eateries and felt welcome at Quandt.  I know it's not as cool as your 3500-seater, but I hope it was sufficient! lol.  ;D :D ;)  Good to meet some of the Hope posters.

OS - thanks for all the info you gave us and your hospitality.   Other than the outcome of the game on Saturday it was a perfect weekend.  The food was really good (we enjoyed Hilltop both nights after the games and had lunch on Saturday at The Wooden Chair).  Quandt is a fine place for a game or two, although you are right that we are quite spoiled with our arena.  The best non-basketball part of the trip was probably when we parked in front of The Wooden Chair and my son (an up and coming bass player) noticed the guitar store next door.  So we left Stevens Point with a permanent reminder of our trip - a bright orange Fender bass.  Can't wait to see how that goes over with the church band (which is predominantly Calvin grads)

I have heard a grumbling hear and there on this board and in the middle of a long post asked about it but I will make this most just for that matter.

What are the very vague rumors about some large, post player recruit? Or is this just wishful thinking? I remember some mention of a discussion at the Hilltop about this supposed recruit.

If we told you, we'd have to kill you... 8) :o 8)

Seriously, imho it's just very wishful thinking at this point.  Since it's no more than that, it really doesn't need to be talked about in public.  Should anything come of it, I'm sure the right person will fess up asap.   ;)

I have loved the posts the last few days, now that I have had a chance to read them.  I echo most of them, except those that claim the Quandt is a great place to watch basketball.  Yuck.  No offense, but, really, with 50% of the seating behind the basket (either on the ends or the sidelines), it doesn't make my list.  I would imagine that it might grow on you though, if it were home, much like the Civic Center.

To the Hilltop crews, both the Friday night crew and the Saturday night crew, life is better for having had the opportunity to hang around with you all.  Some of you are new aquaintances, and some of you I've known longer than FDF.  Still in all, you are a universally awesome group of people.  Thanks!

FDF's tribute to the seniors was pretty spot on -- I would add that they single-handedly made our son feel like a rock star and the picked-on little brother all at the same time -- and that meant the world to all of us.  But rest assured, those 6 guys are the greatest you'll ever hope to meet, and I count myself among the lucky ones who can say they have.  Thanks, seniors, for everything;) ;D ;)

Pointlem -- I had no idea!  I'll properly introduce myself next time around (I was handing out the aforementioned tickets).

One final thought, with apologies that it will mean nothing to many of you -- "Jabudi!" ;D :D ;D

Not sure if this is the one referred to, but I've heard this rumor from 2 different people.

Makes sense, what with the coach's firing and all.

re: TRIBUTE TO CRAMER

While it would be redundant to reiterate what so many of you have offered, he has firmly planted himself in the company of the Bosmas, Holsteges, Elliotts, Guginios, Strongs, and Floyd Bradys of this institution. Here's to hoping that Pat Coleman, etal. recognize his efforts beyond "the numbers" and reward him with a well-deserved All-American selection.

I think that a testament to his greatness can be evidenced by the number of posts about him on this discussion board over the course of this season, especially by non-Hope fans. He may even have passed Travis Spaman in that category, who became famous friends with he-who-must-not-be-named!

According to Hillsdale College, Douma is retiring--he wasn't fired. This isn't too surprising to me because he has to be about 63 years old by now. I suppose its possible he was forced out and is being allowed to gracefully exit with a retirement announcement but I'm not privy to inside information like that.

Speaking of ALL Americans, how do the Hope people feel about Wash U's Troy Ruths being at that level.   Hope's defense did the best job against Troy that I saw all year, so obviously his numbers suffered in that game.  But I personally feel he'll be a strong candidate for some kind of mention this Saturday  -  wondering how opponent's fans feel?

And Cramer - wow - I've missed a lot of Hope basketball the last 20 years, but I certainly put him at the Holstege level.
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!
