Tommy Ammaker gone.

Not to open a can of worms, but suppose Hope and or Calvin had a down year--given the good runs both of those teams have had--anyone think that one bad year (i.e. missing the NCAA tournament post-season altogether) would be enough reason to send either one of those coaches packing?

Not a chance.

One bad year would certainly not put either GVW or KVS in any jeopardy whatsoever with their administrations.  Now, might it get them thinking individually about retiring?  Maybe, but probably not.  I think those guys are awfully secure in their jobs, and rightfully so.  They both will probably leave their respective schools whenever they want to, because they're good coaches with great track records who run clean programs and educate young men who have a great deal of character.

Amaker never made the tournament in 6 tries. The fact is that his teams have never really been competitive in the league. That's not the case with either GVW or KVS, both of whom have good enough track records that they are as secure as can be. Both would have to have some catastrophic moral failing for their jobs to be in jeopardy - and I don't see that happening.

Congratulations to Steve Cramer for being named 4th team All-American. A well-deserved honor (although I couldn't help but notice Drury was third team, and while it is obviously a season honor, I don't think there is much doubt about who was the better player on the floor that night).
One Mississippi, Two Mississippi...

I will echo what others have said.  At this point I think it is up to GVW, and KVS about when they should step down.  I think each of them put themselves under more pressure than their respective AD's or administration do.  You can probably add Mike Turner, and Buck Riley in that group, and Passage at K. is probably getting close.  Not sure about Tri-State, Olivet and Alma as they are too new or have had recent changes.

Agree 100%.  When you consider that the MIAA, out of 8 teams, gets on the average 2 teams in the tournament each year, that's really only 25% of the teams in the league.  The Big Ten gets around 6 out of 11 in the tourney each year (or about 55%).  Amaker hasn't even been able to do that for 6 years.  His players have not gotten better from freshmen to seniors, they run poor offensive sets, and they continue to have 20+ turnovers per game way too many times.  As nice of a guy as he is, and I've personally met and talked to him, it was time for a new direction.

In contrast, KVS and GVW will be able to leave on their own terms whenever they are ready for a new challenge and/or retirement, even if they they have a down year or two.

I can see Sac now   -  Lansing to Holland in under 90 minutes!!

I've already done that ;) 8)

So this is where I post how warm and sunny it was here in North Carolina today and how much I enjoyed my 18 holes of golf at a posh Southern resort............instead I was at Cape Haterus enjoying a 45 degree afternoon with a stiff breeze off Pamlico Sound............it was alot like standing on the Holland pier in November, only colder.

Either way, of the posters on this board I'm possibly the only one who hasn't seen a snow flake this week ;D  Plus I found where they put all of our Michigan jobs.

........stood at the doors to Cameron indoor stadium today. 8)

Of the current LMC holdover coaches Mark Boyle (Marian--Fond du Lac-WI) has been around the longest. Before Coach Larsen left Edgewood to become new NAthCon commissioner prior to the start of last season, Larsen may have been the coach that came the closest (in terms of consistent in-LMC tenure) to match the record of either of the two MIAA coaches. None of them even come close to your coaches in terms of NCAA tournament record.

Merely curious... were you there? IIRC you weren't.... ???

With that said, congrats to Air Michael Cramer. After all the teasing about the classification of "the best dunk ever" I must admit it was more than a little fun to see someone of his stature slam it down. ;D Plus he's a humble player and it's always nice to see the guys with talent do their job quietly without a lot of cocky bravado. A much deserved award.

As we are currently discussing this on the CCIW board, and I know you guys had a lot of nice things to say about him after the CCIW-MIAA challenge, I'm curious if any of the MIAA guys were surprised not to see Kent Raymond on any of the AA teams?
