novelty of novelties..........I saw highlights of this guy on the local Lansing sports last night.  Hilarious, you have to see it to believe it.  I've never seen a -1" vertical jump before........or anyone who can throw a ball down to a basket from 15 feet either.

Amazingly, after 73 years of Hope and Calvin playing dodgeball, the series remains tied, with only .023 nhpg (nerds hit per game) difference.

As you said - not a surprise, but it's still nice to "hear it from him" and see it in print

Is this the player to fill the shoes of Steven Cramer???   (Forgive me, but being down here in St Louis I have no concept of the talents of the West Michigan individuals)

Tanis is an excellent high school player and he has the talent to be an excellent D3 player too. He's not a Cramer like player though because Tanis fits the prototype we have of the 2 guard more than did Cramer. Tanis is more the type of player who is a pure shooter and scorer and I would compare him more to  Calvin's Derek Griffin than to Cramer. I always thought Cramer was more of an all-around 2 guard who did everything equally well--he defended, rebounded, slashed to the basket and shared the ball more than we normally expect from someone in the 2 guard slot. That's not a criticism of Cramer--who always had my respect--it's just that he was different from the norm in that position.

I have always thought TT would struggle mightily at the college level.....he seems to avoid contact at all costs.  Good skills but physical teams (MIAA) will shut him down.

The player Hope will miss a whole lot next year (excepting of course, the almighty  ;) Cramer)  will be Brett Jager.  Solid, solid PG who made a difference in many many games this past season.  Loved watching him play, always calm and just made plays.

BTW, anyone catch the end of the DII championship game a few minutes ago???  WOW!  7 points in the last 25 seconds.....ending a 57 game winning streak.  Unbelievable game.

hopefan

HShoopster   -  funny, I was just going to comment about that D2 game  - happened to only catch the last two minutes  -  but, depending on who you were rootin for, either one of the most unbelievable comebacks, or one of the greatest meltdowns, EVER, in the last 25 seconds of a Championship game!!!!   (For those that missed it, undefeated and defending champion had a 5 point lead and shooting a foul shot with 25 second and lost by 2! )
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

This is truely the most amazing stat in the series especially when you consider how many more nerds are usually on the Calvin rosters. :P

Went to the Class A semi-finals yesterday, I was underwhelmed by our Mr. Basketball, Corperryale (Manny) Harris.  I've seen about 15 in person and Harris would rank near the bottom of that list.

Warren DeLasalle played the best team basketball of the four in my opinion, extremely well coached........I imagine a couple of those Seniors might be on Albion's radar considering how many DeLasalle kids end up at Albion.  They had a nice plan for Harris, makeing his teamates beat them and fortunately for Redford they did.

Ann Arbor Pioneer looked so scared of Saginaw it was almost funny, I know at least 1 Pioneer was interested in Hope but I don't recall which one.  But they should be commended for fighting to the finish and keeping in touch with Saginaw.  Saginaw really should have won by about 25.  Interesting moment at the end, the Pioneer coach was trying to sub for his 5 Sr's on the floor and the kids at the end of the bench wouldn't go in........never saw that before, after some uh....encouragement they went in.

Saginaw is good but I think we've had better Class A Champions, they're huge for HS and take advantage of it but I don't think I saw a post move from either of their big guys all weekend.  HS teams just don't have the ball handling skills or smarts to beat the press Saginaw employs and they use it to their advantage.  Overall underwhelmed by the Trojans..........or maybe I just can't get past the king size sheets they wear as uniforms. ::) :-\.........that and they use the OSU fight song ;)

Coach sightings..........GVW, Davelaar, Ed Douma and Steve Hettinga (or a great look alike) and though I didn't see him, Mike Turner.  Also every freaking HS coach in the state.  :D

Oh, Brother Sac!   ;D :D ;D  ROFL!   ;)

It's not like you to take such blatant stabs at our Calvin brethren (well, not in public, anyway)!   ;)

And I thought off-season would be boring. 8)

Just finished watching the class B championship game.  I was really pulling for EGR, but what a great game.  I would love to have seen the B teams play the A teams, might have been some good competition.

A comment during the game about Demarcus Grady really hit me though.  The announcers said that he has admitted that basketball is his first love, and would have gotten a DII scholarship for BBall, but he chose to play football at DI Northern Illinois instead.  Just curious if this sounds "dumb" to anyone else.  Do the high school kids really think that a DI scholarship is that much "better"?  Is it a status thing (although I don't think Northern Illinois isn't that much of a status place)?  Anybody have any thoughts?
