you're right on the early speculation stuff, I'll wait until he's announced personally to rejoice, but I did just hear it from the most reliable source/contact/basketball friend I have as well.  He also told me that the younger puls is going to U-M as a walk-on.

This has to be a done deal, come on guys, piece it together.  Beilein goes to UM, younger Puls goes to UM, Puls becomes the next Kevin Pittsnogle.  Done and done.

Leading the religion section in the Grand Rapids Press today is a story about a blind student at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary.  In the backdrop of the Press photo of the young man in the classroom sits a former Hope College post player.

Gugino is not a big banger by any means, but he will give much needed assistance on the glass.  Hope's JV roster has a 6'10 kid on it (puls).  Did he play and any projections for the next 3 years.?

I think everyone in Holland, particularly his two sisters that attend Hope and father that works at Hope, would be elated if Tony decided to transfer. However, I'll wait to say anything about possible transfers, recruits and incoming freshmen until I see them in uniforms. Nothing is solid until then.

As for Puls, I watched him a few times this past season. I think he'll need to put on some weight if he wants to be effective. 6'10 is awesome, but if a 6'5 center weighs 40 more lbs than you, you're toast. People like Scott Richardson, who play "bigger" than they are, would make Puls looks silly. That being said, he has enormous potential if he can start putting some muscle on them bones.

MIdoubleA, maybe you should wait to say anything about transfers, especially if you have inaccurate information.

Tony's father does not work at Hope College.  Happens to be his uncle, Tod!

I guess Wash U isn't too concerned with the regional concept  -  all the way up to Western Michigan for potentially 2 great games, ONU and Calvin, and receive no in region credit.

On the other hand, I'm taking my wife out to dinner tonite with the start of my 8 month lobbying campaign to be allowed to go up to see the games   -  it's same weekend as our 35th anniversary...... ::) ::)

Some wives would jump at the chance to watch d3 basketball on their anniversary...   ;)

Best of luck in your campaigning -- making good dinner choices will help!   ;D

That's true if you assume Puls is going to be in a post position matched up against post players.  He's a good enough shooter that he could find himself out on the perimeter quite a bit.  At any rate, I would guess that Beilein would try to exploit size mismatches when he is facing up against guards by puttin him in the post, and speed advantages by putting him on the perimeter when big guys try to guard him.  Does he need to put on some weight?  Absolutely, but most players do coming into college.  I think he fits nicely with Beilein's system, but then again, I'm a bit biased.

I think they will actually be closing out Knollcrest Fieldhouse no earlier than March 1.

Is there a dance or something?

It could be a dance (I've got tickets for Calvin's Dance Guild :o :o :o at the Fine Arts Center tonight!!!).

You sure it wasn't a party with music? ;)

Yes, sac, you guessed it, but the big dance actually takes place the next week.

I believe MIdoubleA's original quote was meant to apply to Brian, Hope's JV "presence." While the exact same logic could (and does) apply to Eric, he will be strictly a 5-year practice player at U-M (automatic redshirt included). I would bet that he would only see the floor a total of 10 games his entire career.

I know that this is the Basketball site, but did anyone else notice the track score for today:

Men's Results
Calvin 96, Albion 96 (tie)

HOLY COW!!!  That's like Kalamazoo losing in Tennis!  Must have been quite the meet. :)

My mistake on the quote.  I really hope you're wrong about Eric.  Honestly, having seen a lot of players come through the ranks in Northern Michigan over the years, including Graham Brown, I think Eric's got a good shot to be more than a 5 year practice player.

I was happy to see a guy like Brown succeed at Michigan--on a winning team no less--but was surprised that he did as well as he did.  I think Puls has more going for him than Brown did.  Brown was an ogre, but Puls can stretch the floor.  Both are really smart young men with great parents and down to earth attitudes, and are very coachable.

I'm not saying this guarantees Puls anything at Michigan, but part of me thinks that if a guy like Graham Brown can captain a 20-win Michigan team, Puls can at least be an impact player from the bench.

Kalamazoo has beaten both Calvin and Albion 6-3 in their league dual matches this year.  They lost over the weekend to Albion in the GLCA's. Not sure if Timon witheld his top players or not.

It's my understanding that the MIAA tennis tourney is different this year.  It will be a Team vs Team tournament instead of the seeded individuals at each flight.  Winner gets an automatic bid now.

Reed Baker is now available, he'd be a perfect fit for Alma.
