Maybe he and bother Brad, who just recently lost his job down here at St Louis U, can start their own business -

Seriously, Brad Soderburg was a quality guy - with the stuff he ran at SLU, he just seemed a little out of his element - I think he'd make a great D3 coach - He was a head coach at Loras (Iowa) in the late 80's early 90s and had 5 straight winning seasons.  While at SLU, he played exhibition games against several D2 and D3 teams.  Just don't know if a guy who has moved to  D1 would be eqiuipped to go back to the challenges of D3.

Grey Giovanine, who was the head coach at D1 Lamar and is now running Augustana's program, seems to be pretty well-equipped to handle D3's challenges.

But Greg, after being down in D1, that's an awfully big step UP !!! ::)
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

I sure didn't see Soderberg leaving, I thought Olivet made some progress the last couple years.   Another solid Freshman class would have put them in a great spot to compete for the top half of the league within the next couple years.

This is a surprise to me.

I have to agree that Soderburg leaving is a surprise.  I will admit that I won't miss him, given his penchant for whining about how badly his teams were getting beat.  I believe his coaching ability was bringing Olivet around to being a team to be reckoned with, however, I also believe that his attitude had a negative impact on his team.

Just heard that Duane Bosma's father (Don Oveerbeek's uncle) had a heart attack--only 10 % chance of making it through a complicated 10 hour procedure to save his life.    Please keep the family in your prayers.

I agree, FDF.  I will not miss his sideline antics if the rumors are true.  However, if true, Olivet's website has not been updated to reflect the change.  http://www.olivetcollege.edu/sports/m_basketball_coaches.htm

In other news, those of you traveling to scenic Lenawee County next season will be treated to a new floor design at the Merillat Center (http://www.adrian.edu/sports/images/merillat_floor.jpg).

Also, some MIAA schools have their 2007-08 schedules posted on their websites.  Here they are, for your perusal...

Wow - conference play doesn't start until Jan 9th!  I actually like that, as it gets rid of (or reduces the number of) games played while the students are still on Christmas break.

It's true, Soderberg had a meeting with the team on Monday.  He's taking a job in Wisconsin.

From the Calvin Christian prayer line:

Tom Bosma is out of surgery and doctors report that the surgery was successful.  He did not suffer a heart attack as first thought but a dissected aorta.  Please pray that all goes well during this very critical stage of recovery.
Keep the family lifted up in prayer during this very difficult time.

Thanks SAC for fixing my "incorrect" reply--I'm still trying to figure this posting thing out! (Obviously not too well). The Olivet grapevine has quite a few players not returning due to Soderberg's departure, and a few waiting to see who the new coach will be before they decide to continue playing basketball.   Too bad, as you said, Olivet had some young talent, now everything is up in the air.  It certainly was a difficult year for the Comets.

Here's a link to the Soderburg story from the Olivet College athletic site.  http://www.olivetcollege.edu/sports/index.php?id=1360

It'll be interesting to see which direction they go in their coaching search.

Nothing says Olivet Basketball like high player turnover rates.  But seriously, Soderburg was an amazing coach.  No doubt that this will set them back a few years. ::)

I don't recall this one being posted......

From the Lansing State Journal

Tyler Stewart, F Okemos to Kalamazoo.  3 sport athlete with a 3.9 GPA.  Honorable mention CAAC-1 in basketball, and all conference in Football at TE.

Got word tonight that Hope managed to shoehorn in their last recruit I'm aware of.   A 6-5 F from the East side of the state, was offered a scholarship to Hillsdale.  Nice addition to an already solid class, at least on paper it looks equal to or better than the 2002 class with Immink, Spaman, Griffeth, Klunder and Kleersnyder.  They are now done........?

.......at least I think they're done. ;)
