Well at the very least, Hope has 4 in-region, pre conference games (Carthage, Wheaton, Elmhurst, and Roanoke) wiht a possibility of more depending on who joins the two tournaments Hope is hosting.

The last 5 years, the number of pre-conference, in-region games Hope has played have been 3, 3 (4 if you count Carthage, but at the time they were not in-region - I think), 3, 1, and 2.  Definitely a move in the right direction.

I see the big grin as meaning something different than you do, obviously. And I have been around long enough to remember how the MIAA board reacted when Defiance was let go.

I think reading my post as saying I think posters on this board had something to do with Defiance getting asked to stay out is a little bit of deflection, no? What normal person would think I said that? And why in the world would I have said that? That makes no sense.

Not enough to boot them out of the league but you have to gloat about it?

What the heck are you talking about?  And did you need to smite me for it??????  I'm so confused.

If you were referring to my comment (and I really can't tell), I was only referring to the fact that they played a really, really, very physical game.  I worried every time we played them that someone would end up seriously hurt.

If you were commenting on someone else's comment, ignore this one (but maybe help me understand what you were referencing).

If you are trying to pin some years-gone-by arguements that had nothing to do with me on me, shame on you!

Do you remember how the Defiance posters behaved?

Let go?.......they left, largely because they didn't fulfill promises they made to join the conference in the first place as I recall.  Both organization and institution are happier now and thats fine.

EDIT:   Check that, they left when it was clear they wouldn't be approved after their 2 year provisional, largely because they didn't make the changes they promised.

Sure do. But they aren't even here anymore. Hit-and-run posters don't usually get held to the same standards, do they? Aren't you guys supposed to be better than that?

For a room that cares so little about karma, surprised to see someone complain.

Deflection - of what?  My comments regarding Defiance were concerning not wanting to play them - not because I think anything bad about them, it's just never been a pleasant experience.  Kind of like the way everyone at Hope shudders at the mention of Baldwin-Wallace (sorry sac).

OK, so I apologize for not being normal - there's a big surprise  ;D  (It's a big grin - indicating that I'm joking)

I don't know, you said it, not me.  Since I/we seem to have completely mis-understood the intent of your initial post, perhaps you could explain it?

LOL!   :D

There's more drama around here in the summer than a women's dorm during exams!   ;D  (Relax, now; as a female, I may say that.)

Have a stellar day, y'all.   :D ;) ;D :D

If memory serves correctly about the only real impact Defiance had in the league was in 99 when they beat Calvin in the MIAA tournament semi, and then won the conference AQ.  Defiance lasted one game in the NCAA's.   I do remember their big guy Kahle (or something like that) being a horse inside.  Just the type of player that it seems both Calvin and Hope wish they had most years. :)  I still think that loss in 99 really served to motivate the Calvin team to do great things in 00. ;)  I do remember Defiance being physical, but don't recall them being especailly dirty players.

Not enough for the MIAA to boot them out of the league but now MIAA people have to gloat about it. Sorry that wasn't clear.

Certainly, however, that's a more reasonable interpretation than the one you leaped to.

Good memory, Defiance was pretty solid in basketball on both the men's and women's side.  As you noted they won the 1999 MIAA tournament, and finished tied for 3rd in 99 and 2nd in 00.   Tom Polombo had something good going there, and since he left it seems DC has been floundering a bit

On the women's side they were Co-Champs in 99, winning the MIAA tournament, but slid to 4th in 00.

Basketball was pretty much it for them though, they were pretty dreadfull in most other sports, holding up the standings very comfortably.

.......and by the way, it was 7 years ago now.

Ah yes, Chad Kahle - very physical, great without the ball, very strong, and could jump like crazy.  The kind of player everybody hates, unless he's on your team.  He was definitely a dominant player.  In the 3 years they were part of the MIAA his numbers were pretty impressive:

(Average for all games)

Year  -  PPG  - RPG
99-00 - 17.7 - 10.1 (All MIAA first team)
98-99 - 17.1 -  9.6  (All MIAA first team)
97-98 - 15.4 -  9.8

NOTE: Defiance played an MIAA schedule in 97-98, but the games were non-conference and not inlcuded in conference stats, so I decided to just list overall stats for each year.
