The question is whether or not Jim Timmer is going to get docked a week's pay for being quoted in the article as referring to the rivalry as "Hope/Calvin". :D

Since winning percentage is a component, at just 16-6 that team is unlikely to rank very high.

When I get some free time (<chuckle>) I'm going to grade out the Hope teams going back to GVW's first year or so, and then selected teams from the 60's.   Should be interesting.

Just curious: Where would the '96 Hope team fit in your numbers?

1996's Hope team rates very well at 180.29, so they'd fit in at #2.  They went 27-5, 11-1  MIAA Champs, MIAA Tournament Champs and NCAA Runner-up.

1.   2000--Calvin..........184.64
2.   2003--Hope...........176.99
3.   2001--Calvin..........174.29
4.   2005--Albion..........173.55
5.   2007--Hope...........170.41
6.   1998--Hope...........169.15
7.   2006--Hope...........165.98
8.   2005--Calvin..........164.88
9.   2004--Hope...........163.68
10. 2006--Albion..........155.31

I went back and looked at 3 other Hope teams I think would rate well.....91, 95 and 97

I've always thought 1997 may have actually been a better Hope team than 96 and 98 but they ran into a great Nebraska Wesleyan team in the sweet 16.  NW went on to finish runner-up to Illinois Wesleyan.  1997 Hope rates at 188.93.   They went 26-3, 12-0  MIAA Champion, MIAA Tournament Champs, NCAA Sweet 16.......won 17 games in a row.

1995 of course was Hope's regular season unbeaten team, finishing 26-1.  The 95 Dutchmen rate at 205.72  They went 26-1, 12-0  MIAA Champs, MIAA Tournament Champs, lost in first round to Baldwin-Wallace.

I've always maintained 1991 was Hope's best team I saw with Eric Elliot and Wade Gugino leading the way.  The 1991 team rates at an astonishing 231.93     Hope went 24-2, 12-0 MIAA Champs, no MIAA tournament in 1991, Lost in 2nd round of NCAA tournament to Calvin in OT.  They hit 100 points 8 times including hitting 120 or more 3 times and won 20 straight games.

The 1991 teams' rating is one of the highest I've seen.  I would really have liked to rate the Calvin teams from 90 to 93, because I think they'd rate equally as high.

What really sets these four Hope teams apart from others is their offensive #'s, each of the four teams 91,95,96 and 97 shot over 47% and averaged well into the 80's.  The 96 and 97 teams could also play very good defense.  I thought the 95 team played pretty good D, but it doesn't really show up in the numbers.

Someday I'll go through and rank all the Hope teams.

Well if I added in just the Hope teams from those seasons the chart looks like this

      1991--Hope...........231.93
      1995--Hope...........205.72
      1997--Hope...........188.93

1.   2000--Calvin..........184.64
      1996--Hope...........180.29
2.   2003--Hope...........176.99
3.   2001--Calvin..........174.29
4.   2005--Albion..........173.55
5.   2007--Hope...........170.41
6.   1998--Hope...........169.15
7.   2006--Hope...........165.98
8.   2005--Calvin..........164.88
9.   2004--Hope...........163.68
10. 2006--Albion..........155.31

But again, the Calvin teams from the early 90's would all slide into the top tier of that list.........easily.

In response to an earlier post, the champ of the MIAA will be the team that controls the paint, go figure.  The edge at this time is clearly in calvins favor, based on what I have seen this summer.  Hope is going to have to take great pride in sealing (from all 5 on the floor) and wish that there incoming players, the "youngsters" have a strong desire to hit the glass because I don't see it with the current post players right now.  Watched Hope play twice this week, monday against AQ and last night against GVSU and saw some really good things from both games though.

Pretty huge for the little college.  Can't help but notice the difference in overall price tags between Holland, Grand Rapids and Olivet though.  ;)

I imagine Albion will be next, sometime in the future.

The price difference comes in that Calvin and Hope got new Arenas, Olivet is getting a new gym.  The difference is far more than semantics.  Hopefully this will get the students and fan base a more excited about the team.

Hopefully not the near future.  I love that old gym, it's a great place to watch a game.

Kind of interesting, I believe Alma is one college that has chosen to boycott the rankings.

Speaking of Alma, any news on a potential coach.  We're getting down to crunch time.
