Speaking of Alma, any news on a potential coach.  We're getting down to crunch time.

Have you sent in your resume, sac?

I didn't know they even required a resume.

I wonder if the plans call for another black ceiling and the room temperature for the basketball court at 100 degrees?   ;D

I'm kind of wondering where they're going to shoe'horn in this new gym, there isn't a heck of alot of space around the Upton Center.  Olivet will now have 3 gyms.  weird.  I'll just be happy if it has more than 12 lights, but with track lanes, I'm thinking it will be similar to Aquinas.

Heck why not, nothing but upside in that job.

The MIAA is sending its SAAC (no, not SAC) contingent up to the Mission Point Resort for a weekend conference.  I think it's great that the conference is providing a time for the schools to get together and allow the Student-Athletes to share their experiences.

Since there's no tennis board, I'd like to give a shout out to the USTA Boys 18 & 16's that get going tomorrow at Stowe Stadium. Friday evening's highlight is an exhibition between Todd Martin and Jim Courier. For those who haven't experienced this tourney, I highly recommend spending a day there.  You get the opportunity to watch all the young guns coming up.

STOP THE PRESSES!!!  There's a topic that Stinger and I both agree on!  :)

Stinger - for the past dozen or so years I have volunteered at this tournament and have throughly enjoyed the experience. Its great to see the up and coming *STARS* as well as get to know their families who are able to be in town for the tournament. One of my favorite stories involves Andy Roddick. Since many from the community volunteer in one capacity or another, my friend's daughter was in charge of the Ball Runners for the tournament a number of years ago. Due to an unfortunate accident, she died in a car accident on the first day of her senior year of High School. Word got back to Andy, who had just turned "Pro." He won a minor tournament over in Europe and dedicated his win to this young lady. He even sent the trophy to her parents. Now that's something I will never forget, and one reason I really cheer for Andy!

Hey, gohope.  It was bound to happen.

I was on the "Red Crew" during my years at K.  I met Stan Smith, Gimelstob (jerk), Gambil, the Bryan brothers, and John Lucas Jr. and John Lucas III as well during my three years volunteering.

We received our season ticket info a while back, and included was a more detailed scheduled (at least concerning the two tournaments Hope is hosting).

In the Holland Sentinel Tournament (Dec 7-8)
Dec 7 - 6:00pm - Aquinas vs Trinity International
Dec 7 - 8:00pm - Hope vs Marygrove
Dec 8 - 1 & 3pm games - Hope plays at 3

In the Russ DeVette Holiday Tournament (Dec 28-29)
Dec 28 - 6:00pm - Purdue North Central vs Mt. Vernon Nazarene
Dec 28 - 8:00pm - Hope vs Grace Bible
Dec 29 - 1 & 3 pm games - Hope plays at 3

So no more in-region, DIII games, but some decent competition for the second day in each tournament.  All of the 6pm games are NAIA teams.  Trininty International and Purdue NC are both from the same conference (same as Trinity Christian).  Mt. vernon Nazarene has been a post-season NAIA tournament team for the last few years.  And we all know the "fun" when Hope plays Aquinas.

I was once told by someone who worked at Hope, it would take 3 people to replace Tom Renner.

The MIAA hat is only one of many he wears.

Jeff Keyser, who will be a Hope freshman, was the losing team's MVP in the C/D BCAM game yesterday. Don't know how any other MIAA kids did.

Pat has a segment posted on his d3hoops front page describing the Packers' signing of Joe Werner. I remember well when I first saw him play Calvin at DeVos in the 2006 NCAA tournament. My son and I looked at Werner's body and overall athleticism and we said to each other--"This guy has to be a tight end on the football team." I was very surprised when Greg Sager later informed me that Werner had played high school football but opted out of football while at UW-LaCrosse. Apparently someone in Green Bay's organization sees the same thing in Werner that my son and I did.

Werner's signing reminds me of a similar type athlete--Pete Metzelaars who played hoops (and football) at Wabash. He and the Knights' Marty Grasmeyer had an epic battle in the NCAAs in the early 80's and I believe Hope also played a tournament game against Wabash when Metzelaars was patrolling the paint for the Little Giants. Metzelaars had a long and solid NFL career, and played in 4 Superbowls with Buffalo, losing every time. I doubt if many NFL players ever lost more Superbowl games than that.

In regards to the BCAM games saturday, I'm not sure where most of the players are headed, but... There was a guard in the A/B game who is headed to Albion (so said the program) who had a nice stroke hitting a 3 coming of a screen. Didn't get many looks being on Mr. basketballs team. Sharples, who is supposedly going to Hope, looks freakishly athletic, especially in warmups but did little during the game. fouled out with 15 minutes left, 4-6 points??? Didn't look real polished in the paint but could get off the floor. Tanis, going to hope, missed a couple of pullup jumpers he would normally make based on his form and release, scored a bunch from the FT line and hit 2 DEEP 3's in the second half 12-14pts?  Saw only the last 10 minutes of the C/D game. Keyser looked real comfortable running the showand hit a couple of midrange jumpers. Looked small from the bleachers, 5'10"?, but looked pretty good. Looks like the dutch with have plenty of fire power at the guard position based on what i've heard about the others as well.
