vandemere, bowser, and carolina kid are all enrolled at hope and living in the "athlete" dorm.  There are others too, but their names were not recognizable or remembered by my "source".  WHAC news: A cornerstone parent told me yesterday that all naughty players were given the choice to serve thier suspensions and ALL chose to leave on their own.  Take that for what it's worth. Voorhees is begging/pleading to get back in the program, and John Visser from Davenport is not returning to school, period. Sorry to get off the MIAA trail, simply thought i'd share.

.........most people appreciate info about the local kids even if they aren't MIAA.  The Cornerstone deal is pretty funny to me actually.

So here's a question.  I think Carrie Snikkers was runner-up for the Michigan Miss Bball award last year.  How many (let's say top 3 finishers) Mr. (or Miss) Bball's have played in the MIAA before?  I don't know the answer....just wondering if there were any others?

Was Honderd in the mix out of high school?  He's the only one I can think of on the men's side.

EDIT:
The answer is none, but a handfull of near misses on the men's side.

While I am reluctant to admit this, we are limiting ourselves to Michigan's Mr. Basketball list only. I am afraid to say that if we looked at students from out of state, for example Caleb Veldhouse, we would find that we do indeed have a Mr. Basketball.... South Dakota.

SBell

The Oakland website says she was runner-up for Miss Basketball. Of course, the Miss Basketball voting is  more sketchy, uninformed and political than even the Mr. Basketball voting, so who knows what that position means, excactly.

I don't think South Dakota gives out a Mr. Basketball award, if they do you can't find it with google.

However Gatorade picked Joe Krabbenhoft as its South Dakota player of the year in 2005.  He's at Wisconsin.

I know some of us like to think South Dakota is some state stuck in the 19th century, but they do produce good athletes on occasion.  Mike Miller of Florida Gator and NBA fame was also a Gatorade player of the year from South Dakota.  Calebs a good ball player but he played at a small christian school in Sioux Falls, he's wasn't the best player in South Dakota that year.

I seems to me that Andy Draayer was a Mr Basketball in Colorado but I think that state has a Mr. Basketball for each class (either that, or a Player of the Year for each class). Denver Christian (Draayer's high school) is one of the smaller classes in that state.

Best I could come up with was Draayer was honorable mention for 3A in 2001.  Josh Vriesman made the first team.  So he may have been 3A player of the year in 2002, its just hard to find on the internet.

Colorado has 5 divisions, 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A, A.  Denver Christian lists enrollment at around 350 students.  I think that puts it in the lower end of a Class C school in Michigan, maybe even Class D.

If we wanted to include Player of the year for individual classes then I'm sure we've had a few in the MIAA.  Joel Holstege or David Muehlenberg could have been Class D players of the year for Covenant Christian.  Bryan Foltice at Tri-Unity was definatlely a player of the year.  I think there's been a few under that designation.

Draayer was in fact Mr Basketball in 2002.  But as someone said, they give out Mr Basketball to each division in Colorado.

Just noticed in the Sentinel that Tom Renner's brother, Charles Renner, passed away.  Sympathies to Tom & Carole and their family...

One of our posting friends passed this on to me

"PEEVER, S.D. - Blake Yackley of Sully Buttes is one of 8 finalist for the South Dakota Mr. Basketball Award. Joining Yackley are Mitche Begeman of Sioux Falls O'Gorman. Preston Broughton of Corsica. Joe Krabbenhoft of Sioux Falls Roosevelt. Eric Krogman of Elkton. Ryan Krome of Mitchell. Adam Templeton of Rapid City Central and Caleb Veldhouse of Sioux Falls Christian. The Mr. Basketball Award winner will be named at a Banquet in Huron on April 24th. Mr. Basketball in South Dakota is sponsored by Hansen and Anderson Basketball."

So, yeah Caleb was a finalist for the Mr. Basketball in South Dakota......the whole shebang.

Hi everyone.  I have a few questions.  First, I noticed that there are a couple of preseason tournaments in which Calvin and Hope both play, but the tournaments are set up so that Calvin and Hope do not play each other.  Is this intentional to keep the Calvin/Hope match-ups at a minimum?  (Unlike last year?)  I notice that one tournament is set up as a traditional tournament with a consolation game and a championship game, but these are not.

Second, I noticed on the Hope Men's Basketball page, while trying to get more information about the Calvin schedule, that it says "2006-2007 MIAA Champions."  I'm assuming this is the designation for the team that has the best record during the regular season even though they may not win the MIAA Tournament?  What do they designate the team that wins the Conference Tournament (i.e. Calvin)--"MIAA Conference Tournament Champions?"

Those tournaments where the teams from the same conference don't play each other are typically called Classics.  This is really an advnatage to all of the teams involved (IMHO) since it ensures a more diverse schedule, rather than playing one tema 5 times in a season.  This is not just a Hope/Calvin thing.  AQ and Cornerstone as well as Wheaton and Carthage are not interested in playing each other anymore than their regular league schedule (and post season tournaments) might dictate.

The winner of the conference tournament gets the most important title - Automatic Qualifier.  The Conference Champion is determined by the best record during the 14 game league season.

Thanks.  So, is the Select Bank Tournament one that Calvin and Hope both participate in each year in which they can play each other on day 2?  Is this the tournament that they played in last year that was a first for them actually playing each other in the championship game?
