Anyone know when the rosters are usually put out?  I know practice "officially" started this week, so.....what?  Sometime next week?

Well try-outs were this week, and I know they still might be undecided about some players if they will be on JV or Varsity.  My guess is sometime next week...

Calvin try-outs ended yesterday.  I'm guessing the players will know sometime today.

If Hope follows the last few years, we'll see the roster sometime next week (HOPEfully early in the week).

KZoo already has their roster up (no distinction between JV and Varsity)

Hope's final tryout is tomorrow morning and the kids will be notified after practice.  My guess is that it will be up on their site rather quickly after that.  One of the sportwriters from the sentinel wrote a blog earlier in the week after attending practice, which I have heard are always open to the public. Is this true?  My question on roster decisions is whether Bosch from last years JV squad, or Canan (sp) who should be a senior acedemically, or both will make this years team.

Thanks FDF, and Hoopd.  I sort of figured it must be something of that nature.  Nice to have that much experience/maturity on the roster to offset the fr. wave.  Calvin is at the other end of the spectrum, with possibly only 1 sr.  :)

Always H:  That is exactly the Floyd Brady that I remember watching.  He was just so smooth, and a great athlete.  Sort of makes one long for the days before: talking trash, chest bumps, high 5's etc. etc. etc.

I see Henry McCain (who only played the first three games for Kazoo last year) is back on the roster. Does anyone know what's up with him?

Looked like Calvin was practicing today with the JV and Varsity separated.  The roster I imagine will be posted pretty soon.

goknights68,  with rosters spit for practice today what freshman were playing with the big boys and any surprises on who was or wasn't present on the court?

share what you saw with the rest of us.

looking forward to the season, even though I can't attend games due to  geographic limitations, after lurking all summer.

Varsity Roster: Derek Griffin, Caleb Veldhouse, Tim Katt, Dustin Smith, Mischa McCray, Tyler Zoerhof, Todd Koetsier, Mike Zwier, John Mantel, Matt Veltema, Josh Engelsma, Brent Schuster, Bryan Van Harn, Jimmy Strunk

Thanks CCM:   ;)  Not many surprises in that roster.  Chappell is gone, but understand giving the fr. a shot.   I don't envy KVS or any coach having to make roster decisions.

I don't think Chappell tried out for the team this year.  Also, I may be mistaken, but I believe Van Harn will be playing in the JV games AND be on the Varsity roster.

Alright....now that it's official, it's time for Katt/Engelsma/Schuster to step up their games and become a serviceable big man next to JM.

I can see Calvin going small at times with Dustin/Caleb/Griffin/Zoerhof/Mantel, if the matchups allow it.

Veltema, Strunk also seem good bets for minutes.

I had heard rumors about recruits, but apparently they're on JV if they made it at all.

The big decision was Van Harn will start the season on varsity and then go from there.

I don't believe Chappell tried out this season.

and I agree wolverinekeith...a big key for Calvin is for the "big men" to step up and give Mantel some depth behind the center position.

Can't wait for the season to get going. Although Im sure that coaches want their time to get prepared. An interesting tidbit,  not sure if it has been mentioned,  is the mandatory week off rule this year.  Teams must give their kids a week off over holiday break.  However, they could avoid it by starting practice a week later (as in the 22nd) .  Don't think many coaches chose the later date, but a week off in the middle of the season is a LONG time to be away from the basketball.

Nov. 12, K @ Hillsdale. I wish Douma hadn't left. Love hearing that whiny voice.  I see Calvin grad Sam Hargraeves is back as an assistant for coach Tharp from Lawrence U.

I am guessing Katt (I believe he is a Captain) will start next to Big John.  Koetsier and Engelsma will probably also see big man minutes.

I see Schuster as more of a 3.  He's tall but isn't thick enough to play down low.  He also shoots a pretty good three pointer.
